Interesting. I enjoyed it perhaps because he was a physician and I know the world very well. It was to be what exactly as I remember hospital settings. And, the idea of going through college, med school, residency, fellowship and then you learn you are dying. Strangely, I have known physicians who have had relatives (wives, children) die of what they specialized in. Must be pretty sad for that to happen and a good set up for guilt.

I don’t remember why I added this book to my TBR pile but I’m glad I did. It’s sad and you know that at the beginning but wow did I learn a lot about the life of a neurosurgeon and how this man went from physical to patient and the honest and open way he handled it. Quick read and worth your time. Be sure to listen to his wife at the end. ❤️

A provoking and emotional memoir that expertly dissects the human experience of death as a part of life and how we accept it.

*** I don’t rate memoirs/autobiographies/etc.

My husband listened to this on audiobook. We are leaving on another road trip and he just mentioned how he would love to listen to this story again. Such a moving and inspiring story!

Well I guess that I would find it hard to read this masterpiece having lost my own husband to cancer, but the book was so well written I couldn't put it down.
Very sad, but worth reading.

A little bit of a slow start, but overall was a great read. I enjoyed the aspect of medical practice encompassing empathy and a spiritual component. Wonderful ending!

A very interesting take on facing and accepting death and choosing to find purpose in every day. A sad read but I appreciated how it was written and the story that was told.

This book was amazing. An inside look at what being a physician is really like along with the difficult decisions and the vulnerabilities we all face whether we have a medical degree or not. This book was beautifully written. I highly recommend it.
