Absolutely adorable and interesting as well. I especially liked getting a glimpse of animals we don't have in New Zealand, such as the Raccoons and the Squirrels. The White-tailed Deer which are the cover image are gorgeous, as is the Zebra and the giraffe.

A lovely book.

This book if filled with beautiful photos of indigenous American wildlife babies. It opens with a story of the rescue of a baby squirrel and a reminder that despite their cuteness, wildlife does not belong in your home.

The photos are lovely and make you want to say "awe". Each animals photo comes with a little paragraph of fun facts about the animal. For instance did you know baby squirrels are called Kittens?

I am so happy to have won this book with the good reads giveaways. It makes me smile just even looking at the cover.

This was an interesting and most definitely creative way of presenting current North American wildlife to the masses while at the same time educating the reader on those animals that they may meet in the backyard (although the zebra and giraffe are most definitely foreign stowaways) and asking that the reader have compassion on the animals instead of the fear or the desire to make a pet out of something that still holds wildness in its heart.

The lengthy introduction portion of the book presents the reader with a story that most of us can relate to about offering to take care of a baby animal that is found in the wilderness before it goes into the supportive efforts of backing licensed wildlife rehabilitators, the problems they face with different species that they care for and also the influence that man has on his fellow neighbors whether good or bad. It then turns into a soft plea to allow animals to be unless it can be discerned with certainty that they are uncared for as well as to have a loving heart when you meet them in adult shape out in the world around you.

The formatting was definitely very easy and friendly to the reader. Each animal species was mentioned by name and then the age(s) that the animal subject was. From there it gives a few paragraphs of educational information on what it is like to be that baby, what they learn and how they live before presenting the reader with the colored pictures of that particular species. And it is since of this presentation that the book ends up being rather longer than it should be and so not the best book for the very youngest of readers who just may be happy enough to enjoy the pictures.

All in all it was a well-done book and one that brings an old subject into a rather new light. A possible book for animal-lovers who especially enjoy baby animals but also a decent read for slightly older children to enjoy as well.

Lacks photos of adult animals or any way to determine the size of baby animals in scale.

I love pictures of baby animals. This book had nice pictures, BUT, without an adult animal or other context, there is no telling the size, etc. of many of the animals. There were A LOT of bird, or in my opinion, too many birds.
