A collection of work, both historical and contemporary, by 21 of New Zealand's leading exponents of the short story. Unlike other anthologies, The Flamingo Anthology offers more than one story per author-in the case of certain key figures.
Michael Morrissey's introductory essay is both informative and illuminating. A novelist, poet and short story writer, he has edited a previous anthology, The New Fiction . He lives in New Zealand.

A wide-ranging collection of short stories from NZ authors - many well known names. Many of the stories were enjoyable reads and gave a real sense of time and place - very ‘kiwi’. There were a few weird ones that I didn’t get and others were challenging being based on unpleasant people and/or bad/complicated relationships. Published in 2000 so will look out for a more recent anthology to introduce myself to more of our kiwi writers.
A good collection of short stories. I can't say I liked them all, Janet Frame was a bit disturbing, but it is a good mix. I particularly liked Frank Sargesson - An Affair of the Heart, Maurice Duggan - Along Rideout Road that Summer, Maurice Shadbolt - River, Girl and Onion, Sue McCauley - Mia Culpa, and Witi Ihimaera - The Kids Downstairs.
