Jess leaves Black Creek, Kansas, where he enjoyed a wonderful Christmas with all his friends. Now, he’s back to the business of hunting down the worst of killers for the bounty on their head. His first hunt is for Craig Lancaster, which takes him into the middle of New Mexico Territory and a town called San Pedro.
He then stops in a town called Haystack, where he meets a retired lawman by the name of Jake Hayden. Hayden tells him about how he’s on his way to help an old friend in need. It seems his old friend’s daughter has been kidnapped by one of the outlaws he had sent to prison years ago. Hayden talks Jess into joining him on his journey.
Jess finds himself helping Hayden and two other old retired lawmen, the youngest of which is pushing sixty. The men they go after are dangerous killers and Jess finds himself being slowed down by one man that can’t see, one that can’t hear and another who can’t remember things. He begins to wonder if he’ll ever rescue the daughter before one of the men he’s riding with gets him killed.

In 1990 Robert J. Thomas was sworn in as the full time mayor for the city of Westland, Michigan. He served twelve years, making him the longest serving mayor in Westland's history.
While he was mayor he wrote his first book titled, How to Run for Local Office, which has now sold over 25,000 copies worldwide.
He has written and published on Kindle, the Jess Williams Westerns series. Retired, he now lives in Mississippi with his wfe Jill.
Jess teams up with three ex lawmen to track down kidnappers of one of the group's daughter. Thomas injects a lot of humor into this story. Of the three old guys, one can't hear, one can't see too well, and one can't remember very much of what's going on.
I liked the fact that the main character finished what he set out to do. I liked the fact that he was honest and humble, kind, and shared with the less fortunate. An excellent read. Thanks for the great story telling. I am so looking forward to the rest of the series. The best western I have had the privilege of reading!
I have read this book at least twice now. I laugh at the things that they do. I cheer for Sally and Brent. I think I enjoyed it a second time around more than the first time. Those old law men are awesome one that can't hear, one can't see and one that can always remember. Fantastic reading!!
I enjoy stories. A little of love, adventure, mystery. Not as much shooting. 3 old friends moving in together, helping. And of course Jess helping as usual. See you Jess in number 48.JD
His daughter been kidnapped by an ex-con, whose seeking revenge because of the time he spent in prison. Another adventures of Jess Williams that shows how old RETIRED Texas Ranger come to help each other. These three friends plus Jess and Brent band together to rescue Sally the daughter of a retired Texas Ranger. The posses consists of hard of hearing, eye sight problems and possible new on set dementia. Bottom line this is another great adventurer, but this time it's closer to dealing with the problems of old age. Even though we don't consider the age of 60 as old. But remember these men don't always eat correctly, nor did they have proper medical care. And their living conditions weren't that good either. Anyway read this adventure it's fast moving, and at times funny. The only situation I question is when Yellowrock Moon, a Native American, marries a white man. And the minister of the town marries both couples one couple is white. Now you'll know that wouldn't happen in those days. Especially with the laws regarding interracial marriages(no no's) maybe this town was a liberal because of Jess Williams and his gun. Keep your campfires low and enemies in front ride on..
As always, I enjoyed reading this book as much as all the rest of the series. I downloaded and read it all the same day. I am now waiting for the next book. I recommend this book and the rest of the series to everyone. Enjoy reading.
Jess seems to be softening some. He takes up with three old washed up lawman to rescue one of their daughters who has been kidnapped. He gets the girl back and kills a few bad guys along the way. Good fun.
Suspense and gun fights..... what more could a western fan want. R.J. Thomas has produced yet another masterpiece. Full of intrigue with a few smiles interspersed. You will enjoy this book. So, "Giddy Up."
Jess agrees to help three old law dogs rescue the daughter of one of the men. The group contains: one who can't see, one who forgets, and one who can't hear. Several laughs.
Love the story line ,all the characters were fun and believable. The length was more on line with a novel. Great story, and eagerly waiting for the next one. .
