This is the short story prequel to the book, Blair (A Vampire & Paranormal Romance) (Daughters of Darkness: Blair's Journey Book 1)
You can find this exact book in 'Blair.' The only reason why it's published individually is because readers who have downloaded anthologies didn't get the prequel and wanted a way to read it. Upon reader requests, I published this prequel by itself.
Blair is a nurse in one of New York City’s grittiest neighborhoods. Day in and day out, she works to save the lives of as many as she can. Call it atonement… for the crimes of her ancestors. Because Blair is not just a nurse. She’s not even just a witch and a member of a powerful coven.
She’s also half-vampire. Without pure blood, Blair cannot be allowed to use her magic, and she is determined not to use her powers as a vampire to prey on those weaker than herself. So for years, she has passed as a human in order to save as many lives as she can. After all, when your father is Vlad the Impaler, there’s a certain amount of debt you owe the world.
But something dark is moving in the city, and it will take everything Blair has not to unleash her powers on it and be damned forever…
Chrissy Peebles takes on one of the daughter's of Vlad. This is the story of Blair, his hybrid daughter.
4 authors will each take a different daughter born from the Prince of Darkness, Vlad Montour. (Also known as Vlad the Impaler, an evil villain from history)

Chrissy Peebles, a practicing nurse, has always loved reading and writing fantasy from the earliest age she can remember. She plotted every single twist she could think of during bedtime stories for her children. When her little ones begged for more adventures, she felt confident enough to let her overeager imagination and sense of humor spill out into her first novel. She lives in Ohio with her husband, two young kids, one hamster, three dwarf hamsters and cat. When she's not taking the kids to Little League soccer, basketball, or baseball, she loves to snap photos as her favorite hobby.
I was a little surprised by this, it was good but I guess I shouldn’t be because Eternal Vows was pretty good.
I did get a little tired of the whole “I’m not supposed to use my powers” thing and I would have liked a little more description in how these characters looked, especially the love interest. I mean, at first I see him as this scrawny, timid guy and then I see him as, I guess, as the author wanted me to see him, a slim but muscular guy.
Eh, I say I liked this book but honestly, if the ending hadn’t been written the way it was I most likely wouldn’t be going on to the first book of the series.
The cover is pretty, the writing is simple but enough to keep me going. It just needs a bit more detail.
Immortal is an interesting beginning to the Daughters of Darkness series. Blair is a nurse in a rough neighborhood in New York. She is also 1/2 vampire and 1/2 witch. When three patients end up on the ER with drug ODs, Blair knows it's not drugs that are the problem. Someone filled these people with magic that is killing them from the inside. A newcomer to the coven and to the area by the name of Tony comes to the hospital to aid her but it's too late - the magic has taken all three lives. The coven she belongs to through her mother and aunt, is hesitant to get involved in something that could be way over their heads.
The short prequel gives a little bit of insight into how the relationship between Blair and Tony came to be. The reader gets a glimpse of Blair and how she doesn't use the powers from the witch side of her heritage. I actually read Blair, book 1, before reading the prequel, and honestly, I'm glad I did. I'm not sure I would have gone on to read book 1 based on the prequel. The story fell a little flat for me. The prequel ends with one entire chapter of Blair and Tony in bed, instead of ending it with a cliffhanger.
The better is the enemy of the good, and even moreso of the insufficient. I have read excellent urban fantasy by Seanan McGuire, Jim Butcher, and (meant as parody, but _still_ excellent) Charles Stross, and to go from those books to this is to fall off a cliff.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This short prequel offers a solid intro to Blair’s complex character and her struggle with her dark lineage. The gritty NYC nurse backdrop grounds the paranormal elements well, making Blair relatable despite her supernatural bloodline. While short, it effectively sets the tone and stakes for Blair’s journey, giving readers a good taste before diving into the full story.
