I’ll admit, I was a bit anxious about what seemed a grisly tale but wanted to read it because it was set close to home (Worcester MA) and I always enjoy a good “who done it” mystery. This novel satisfied my reading needs---“Edge of your seat” and compelling (and sometimes grisly), in the same way a Sue Grafton mystery is. At first, I found it so disturbing that I refused to read it at night. But as I adjusted, I found that I couldn’t wait to finish it and find out the TRUTH about “who done it.” The author showed great skill in taking me down the windy path of thinking one thing, then changing my mind, a few times over. I look forward to this author's next mystery. She is a wonderful storyteller and this was a fun read!
Now I can't believe that I gave this book the same rating I gave "That Old Cape Magic." This book was the anti-clever and so very poorly written. That said, it was a page turner b/c it was entertaining on so many levels: how many obvious references to the 3 main suspects looking alike could there be in one chapter, how many misspellings of the word "Camero" and "Naval" and how many missed punctuation marks ... I think I may have created a drinking game. Oh, and how many times the main character "chuckled" -- really, who chuckles? I hate that word. Because of the absurdity of it all, it kept me turning the pages, but it was not a good book. And if you didn't know who the killer was by the first third of the book, you have had a lobotomy.
