“She’s given some meaning to the chaos that I happen to call a life, and I want more.”
If someone asked whether or not you wanted to know something that would be life altering, what would you say? Would it really be worth knowing at the risk of changing your world?
Dax Blakely wasn’t given this choice. With the unknown diagnosis of his brother lingering at the forefront of every thought, all he can do is immerse himself in thoughts focusing around the worst outcomes. When Dax learns of the bleak prognosis, he is unable to sit back and watch his world crumble, so he demands the top experts treat his only living family member. The last thing he expects to interfere is an off-limits romance.
Being thrust into a position where he must quash his desires, Dax isn’t willing to let the woman he wants get away. Unfortunately, he’s fallen and there’s no turning back. With her evading every advance, his need to pursue her grows deeper and deeper, until an unexpected familial turn of events makes him realize what he wants may not be what he really needs after all.
Alisha Tanner’s Backup Plan is such a delight! I easily fell in love with Dax and Brighton, both individually and together. And I think falling in love with the characters is the most important element in a story, because if I fall in love with the characters, it’s easy for me to fall in love with their story. Plus, the dialog was fantastic. Dax was such a sweetheart and the way he cares for Brighton is swoon worthy, Liam made me laugh every time he entered the page, and Brighton made me smile.
Dax Blakely is a model. He's been the sole provider for his brother, Liam, for a while now. They get a diagnosis of Ewing Sarcoma for Liam after testing for pain. He researches the doctor that will be treating his brother and is caught by surprise when he meets her. I liked the way Dax took care of his brother. You could see the love he had for him in the way he took care of him and did whatever he needed to for him. He knows he wants his brother's doctor and will stop at nothing to convince her.
Dr Brighton Fields lost her brother when she was sixteen from the same cancer that Liam has. She connects with the brothers and feeling that she's buried for years start to surface. She's determined that she won't let anyone into her heart again, but things aren't always that easy. While she seemed like a brilliant doctor, she also seemed a bit immature as far as the relationship went with Dax. She could never make up her mind if she wanted him or not. I found I couldn't connect much with Brighton but I also want to read the next book to find out what happens. All in all, this was a very good start I'm the writing world for Alisha and I look forward to reading more about these characters.
This is my first book that I'm reading by Alisha Tanner, and it won't be my last.
I love Alisha's characters, Brighton and Dax. Something about both of them made me love them to pieces and miss them when the book ended. Liam was really funny and I love having laugh out loud, literally moments.
I love the chemistry and sweet moments, very romantic indeed.
