In Shadow Show, acclaimed writers and artists come together to pay tribute to the work of the one and only Ray Bradbury! The final story in the series is "Conjure," written by Alice Hoffman with art by Chris Evenhuis. It's summertime in a small American town, and rumor has it an angel has come to town. Two friends, Cate and Abbey, discover the truth... but there's a price to be paid for their curiosity.
Alice Hoffman is the author of more than thirty works of fiction, including The World That We Knew; The Marriage of Opposites; The Red Garden; The Museum of Extraordinary Things; The Dovekeepers; Here on Earth, an Oprah’s Book Club selection; and the Practical Magic series, including Practical Magic; Magic Lessons; The Rules of Magic, a selection of Reese’s Book Club; and The Book of Magic. She lives near Boston.
I read the first four issues of this five part series about a year and a half to two years ago and for some reason never finished the final comic. This was an excellent story inspired by Ray Bradbury and unlike its predecessors, there's only one story within instead of two or three. I've never heard of Alice Hoffman before, but she managed to capture the essence of Bradbury's imagination with her subtle, creepy tale.
