Israel's Covert Diplomacy In Lebanon

Rate this book
Examines the relationship between the Zionist/Israelis and the Lebanese Maronites in the period 1920-1984, from the establishment of Lebanon until the Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon in the aftermath of the 1982 invasion. Concentrating on the Zionist /Israel end of this relationship, the author analyzes the minority-alliance within the context of the Arab-Israel conflict and superpower rivalry in the Middle East. She argues that Israel has pursued an active policy of intervention in the domestic politics of Lebanon through the alliance with the Maronites. Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.

A book that discusses the interventionist approach of Israel in Lebanon based several misconceptions from the author's point of view. According to the author, the Maronite-Israeli relations that started in 1920 and faded in 1984, created illusions and delusions for the Israelis to pursue several political strategies mainly the minority alliance strategy. This strategy which started with Ben Gorion fruited into an implementation with Begin and Sharon though interventionism. The book is highly interesting and it sheds light on many important political events that happened in Lebanon.
