This was cute installment in the series. I’m still curious on whether this is going to be slice of life or if it’s going to contain some romantic elements. The receipts in this volume also peaked my interest more than they have in any other volume. Overall, this is cute series though heartbreaking at some points especially when the little one ends up missing her mom.
I was on the verge of dropping this series due to the potential teacher/student romance, but it wasn't explicitly pursued this volume so I was able to just enjoy the slice of life moments of daddy/daughter bonding, cooking, filleting fish, and enjoying summer vacation. There was even some dramatic tension with an illness and a disruption to the status quo as the restaurant where the cast gathers begins to re-open.
I'll probably come back to this in a couple months and binge the remaining nine volumes. Unless I get distracted by some other shiny object.
The main 3 characters had a lot of growth in this volume. I'm so glad we're also starting to see Tsumugi on her own, and how she deals with trickier and tough situations like her dad's sickness. I love the relationship she manages to build by just being her own person. Also the humor here is adorable. I'm wondering if any romance element will be added?
An eventful summer as we see our trio make a nice late night dish, have a nice party with friends and meet Kotori’s mother who is reopening she and her daughter’s restaurant. A (100%/Outstanding)
I'm starting to feel more of an emotional connection between the characters, and I like it. We're also meeting new characters and realizing how helpful the three main characters have been to each other. It's nice to see.
Tsumugi's small adventure (/errand) to get jello/meds for her sick father was my favourite episode in the anime, and it was so sweet to see it again in the manga! Tsumugi's just too cute 😭❤️
“I don’t know... what I don’t know.” Bread porridge makes you sleep like a baby. Teachers are good at painting lines?? Raisins + curry = Inuzuka masterpiece. Tsumugi and Shinobu are cats, MEOW. Tsumugi’s great adventure to help daddy. The family quail eggs omg my heart. 😭😭 When she just sat there and let them beg to keep cooking in the kitchen lol.
I like the manga enough to keep reading it but not enough to keep buying it. I totally wanna see some teacher/student going on but seriously doubt it. -sigh-
Not much happens in volume 3, but there is a hint of some movement that will happen in volume 4, so the author sure knows how to keep you occupied! I found some recipes in this one and I'm curious about the Bread pudding, I just wonder if the bacon the author reference is the same bacon, us American uses, because I have a feeling it's theCanadian bacon the author is referencing. I guess I have to google what is "bacon" in Japan.
Isn't his manga SUPER interesting? I really enjoy reading the recipes and having a little story that goes with it is very entertaining.
Sweetness & Lightning was a reading challenge pickup. I had no expectation going into this.
I don't read a ton of manga or slice of life. I found this story absolutely heartfelt and so cute. Family oriented father who is taking care of his daughter, while they are grieving the loss of mother/wife.
I thought the story was well told and enjoyable. Loved all the talk of cooking and how the father was working so hard to learn to cook for his daughter. I love the insert of recipes.
We meet Kitori, student of the father. This dynamic seemed innocent enough but made me feel bad.
This series has really grown on me. I love the slowly developing story about our food family, that's what I've decided to call them at least. It's cute and sweet; a great book for sitting down after work and just relaxing. It's also great that every chapter ends with a recipe of whatever they just made, or at least one of the items. Very cute and wonderful! Recommend to anyone who loves cooking manga or just loves cute manga.
I read the first two volumes of this series a while ago and was worried that I would have a hard time picking it back up but I got back into it pretty easily. This isn't a stellar read but it is kind of nice and comforting so I think I'll finish the series. I keep finding myself sending recipes to my husband and also wanting to cook.
In this volume, we had some filleted fish and some danger to the cooking lessons.
This volume felt more cohesive than the second one, and it feels like the characters are developing at a steady pace. Tsumugi continues to be the standout for the series - she's just TOO cute as she learns more and more about the world of cooking with her father. I particularly enjoyed the last chapter, where the status quo seemed like it was about to change. And it did, just not in the way that I was expecting.
No creepy inappropriate relationship elements this time around, which I was so glad for, because this manga is so cute and sweet. This volume in particular did a wonderful job of incorporating elements of how grief can coexist with happy memories of those we have lost—more poignant than one might expect.
Another great installment to the series. I’m warming up even more to all of the characters. At first, I was unsure and kind of creeped out by Kohei, but this volume brings up more about her loneliness and introduces her mother, too. Her feelings are much more valid with the added exposition. Overall, it was cute!
Was waiting for them to address the mother and we got it here and it did not disappoint! The home cook meal cry is a good trope, seeing how much the mom mattered in this family will be so big!!! Protect Tsumugi at all costs!!! But then we got stuff like the festival and now they effected his mindset, over all very good stuff here.

It's heartwarming and indearing tale of high school teacher, his daughter, and his female high school student to create great memories through cooking together. It includes recipes and instruction to create the food that they make together in the manga
This was again good and wholesome it has the fuzzy cozy feeling you get when your all snuggled in bed in winter. I just really really reallyyyyyyyyy hope this isn't a student x teacher manga bcs I will nope out faster than my hopes and dreams and that was pretty fast
I loved when Tsumugi said “welcome to my mouth” (p. 59). I also really liked the panel where Tsumugi & Kohei look at each other at the bottom of page 122, and the whole scene asking Kotori’s mom to use the kitchen on pages 164-167.
