Do You Have a Plan?: Shut Up, Make a Plan and Do Something

Rate this book
This book will dig out the master planner that has been hiding inside of you, and who is hungry for getting things done and having fun while doing it. It’s ironic how much time and energy we dedicate to figuring out how to plan an entertaining evening out, how to make our one-week trip to an exotic place unforgettable or how to make others feel bad for things they’ve done to us or, yet when it comes to figuring out how to make our life easier, better and happier, we tend to put any sort of planning aside.

I received this book through Goodreads First Reads, and am grateful for the opportunity.

When I entered the sweepstakes for this book, I looked forward to receiving something that could go in depth on how to plan and organize my life. When I received a flimsy booklet only 20 pages long, I was somewhat disappointed. I was hoping for something with more detailed instructions, perhaps even having some sample worksheets of sorts that I could use as the basis for making my own plan. Instead, the book was so thin that I was not sure at first if it was even a book. In addition, the author splits his focus between personal and business planning; as I was primarily interested in the former, this only further reduced the amount of information available to me.

Still, I have to admit that the author made some good points in his brevity. He made it clear that I need to start planning as soon as possible, and write down my thoughts on my future. When I look at the future, there are many areas that are foggy to me; hopefully this will set me toward at least thinking about those looming dilemmas. In addition, I felt that his point about looking at yourself and seeing if you are living up to your personal values was very enlightening.

However, this does not change that, at only twenty pages, the booklet only scratches the very edge of the subject. Yes, he has made me more determined to plan for the future, but that was already a goal for me. What I want to figure out is how best to plan, and on that note his advice is vague and open. Perhaps since this is meant to be the first of a series, the sum of all the parts will adequately cover the subject. For the moment though, I feel that the booklet is interesting, but much too short to have significant effect on my plans.

Received in a Goodreads Firstreads giveaway November 2014. Thank you.

Nice quick read. The first part is applicable to anyone and is a good common sense planning guide with reasoning and motivation to plan. The second part is much more business orientated and is not quite as applicable if you are not in a standard business profession. Clear writing.

This is something many people can get to or look up online but if you are not organized this might help motivate you.
