Thanks for taking the time to visit my page! I'm so excited my debut novel, The Other Side of Later, is now available on Amazon!

While I graduated from college with a degree in engineering, by the time I was in my late 20s, I discovered my real passion is writing. I wrote The Other Side of Later over the course of a couple years late at night, on weekends, and during any minute I could spare.

I've been a Jersey Shore resident my entire life, and I wouldn't dream of living anywhere else! In my spare time, I love going to the beach, listening to country music, and running along the shore.

THE OTHER SIDE OF LATER by D.K. Hamilton is a heartfelt, emotional story about family, friendship, and the fear that can sometimes surround love.

Julia learned the hard way that you should never let anyone take control of your life, and even though she is happy now with her gorgeous little boy, her supportive family, and her hard-earned career, she knows that she will never let down her guard when it comes to the opposite sex. But one rainy afternoon soon sets Julia on a new path, where she has the opportunity for companionship, love, and a real relationship with Drew. But Julia cannot trust her own instincts, and never wants to feel the abandonment and fear from her past, so she pushes him away. After all, loving someone makes you vulnerable, and vulnerability often leads to hurt. So Julia throws herself into her career and looking after her son even more, but Drew keeps on surfacing in her mind...

THE OTHER SIDE OF LATER by D.K. Hamilton is well-paced with well-developed characters that you will fall in love with - especially Drew and Luke! While at times I wanted to shout at Julia to wake up and stop messing up, as her past is revealed to us, I began to understand her need to keep her distance. Set against the backdrop of the beach, this story comes to life, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

THE OTHER SIDE OF LATER by D.K. Hamilton is an easy read and is perfect for an afternoon's entertainment.

I admit that I bought this book by accident, thinking I was buying a book by another indie writer I was following on Twitter. However, this turned out to be a happily-ever-after accident. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it for anyone looking for a romance to read on a cold winter day.

Julia has trust issues resulting from her failed marriage. Although in a very successful marriage myself, I can identify with Julia's struggles to trust once again. After losing the trust of someone you love, it is very difficult to move beyond it. Watching the evolution of the relationship between Julia and Drew, I found myself routing for her, hoping she could put the past behind her and find happiness once again. This is a message we can all learn from, for until we can let go of issues like trust and betrayal, we will never be free again.

Great job!

After a disaster of a marriage resulting in Carson, an energetic toddler boy, Julia hasn't been on a date for several years. Add the chance meeting of an old school friend, Drew, and The Other Side of Later is born.

The Other Side of Later is a feel-good, happily ever after romance. The flashbacks from Julia's past marriage made the storyline more interesting and I was intrigued as to what or who made her past marriage fail. I liked that there was another romance going on besides the main one. I loved that there was no love triangle going on, as that's the thing that annoys me about romances.

I'm rating this love story 5/5 because who doesn't like a happy ever after ending? Looking for a romance without the love triangle cliche? The Other Side of Later is for you!

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for writing an honest review.

This book is a classic but complicated love story, which I really enjoyed. It revolves around the hectic life of single mom, Julia, who is juggling work and a young son on her own. She doesn’t have any time for love and also doesn’t feel like she needs it. She has shut herself off for so long that she doesn’t know how to feel when a guy from high school shows up into her life again, and he’s nothing like she remembers. The story is sweet, and I like the way that Julia keeps evolving as a character, in a positive way. I would recommend this to people that like to read sweet romance books.

Synopsis:

Julia Merina meets her dream guy in college and he sweeps her off her feet. Slowly, after they’re married his true nature of being a control freak and philanderer begin to surface. He leaves her as he admits he’s taken a reassignment across the country and that his long- time lover lives there too. Only after he leaves does Julia discover she’s pregnant.

Now a single mother with a career that’s taking off she’s out running one afternoon when a summer downpour causes her to seek refuge in a nearby gazebo. Here, she meets Drew, a guy she knew, but didn’t hang out with from high school. They have a conversation and she discovers he’s easy to talk despite what she thought of him in high school.

They begin to have a relationship and Julia begins to see Drew as someone she depends on. Her three year-old son, Carson is very comfortable with Drew and his dog Rosie. But, because of her ex-husband, she pushes Drew away knowing he’s nothing like the man she was married to.
Even though Julia’s pushed him away, Drew shows up to her son’s pre-school Thanksgiving play because he promised the boy he’d go. After Christmas Mass, they again run into Drew who asks Julia to give Carson a gift which turns out to be a stuffed dog that looks like Rosie who Carson had become attached to. That was enough for Julia to realize what she’d thrown away.

The Good:

The book is well written and the characters are very believable. It’s a quick read that draws you in and there were scenes where I found myself arguing with Julia; “How can you keep pushing this guy away? Look how good he is with your son?” That sort of thing, which is always a good sign.

The Bad:

This is nit-picky personal preference stuff, but parts of the book tend to be very dialog heavy. I prefer a nice mix of action, dialog, and narration. The latter part of the book does this very well. Again, this is only a personal preference and has no bearing on the quality of the dialog which is written well.
