Firms with superior IT governance have more than 25% higher profits than firms with poor governance given the same strategic objectives. These top performers have custom designed IT governance for their strategies. Just as corporate governance aims to ensure quality decisions about all corporate assets, IT governance links IT decisions with company objectives and monitors performance and accountability. Based on a study of 250 enterprises worldwide, IT Governance shows how to design and implement a system of decision rights that will transform IT from an expense to a profitable investment.
Infelizmente não gostei. Livro maçante, repetitivo, sem dinamismo e chato. Os estudos de casos são as melhores partes. Esperava algo completamente diferente
I found this book very practical for those who work or plan to work in IT of a large company. Some parts were a revelation when I think of practice in my company.
It does its job, but the topic is extremely boring :) I feel some of the governance process described is based on IT as a service unit, rather than the position it has in product organizations.
This book provides general understanding of the governance of information technology (IT). Information Technology as one of the important assets of modern companies today not only has the technical and administrative roles, but has particularly been serving high strategic role and become an enabler for companies to achieve competitive advantage in today's business competition. The role that information technology is strategic, not just the responsibility of the department or the IT manager alone, but was shifted to the corporate whole. This book provides a basis for understanding frmaeworks and systems in decision-making processes related to success in the use of information technology. Three important questions are addressed for an effective approach to IT Governance, namely: (1) What decisions should be made to acquire IT governance effective?; (2) Who should make decisions?; and (3) How decisions are made and monitored?. These three questions can be answered through the matrix associated with the decision-making process. This process is analytically presented in the matrix of the five types of decisions (decision type) and six types of basic patterns (archetypes). Decision type associated with the decision-making process while the archetypes associated with the decision maker. Through this matrix, the management company can understand the details of the basic patterns presented in this book and may be analogous to the case studies that can be applied by managers at their companies. The book is divided into eight chapters, namely: (1) IT governance simultaneously provide power and control, (2) The five key IT decisions: Make IT a strategic asset; (3) the basic pattern of IT governance to allocate decision-making rights; ( 4) mechanisms for implementing IT governance; (5) IT governance such as what works well; (6) relates the strategy; IT governance and performance; (7) government and non-profit organizations; (8) leadership principles in IT governance
