High school. It sounds easy enough. Except, I’m at school in a foreign country. Oh, and my dad is a terrorist. And a member of his organization has went rogue. He wants to kill me. Also, I might be falling in love with the president’s son, who my father wants dead. I’m in way over my head.
This is the second book in the New Hope Academy Series. This is a completed YA mystery romance series. Book 1: Fate Book 2: Luck Book 3: Fame Book 4: Wish
I'm Scarlett Haven. I write YA and NA books and I write a lot. My books are a fun mixture of romance, mystery, and now some paranormal too!
Besides writing, I also love to read anything I can get my hands on and I'm always drawn to the villain of the story. I am 29 years old and am married to the love of my life.
Kat is slowly getting used to life in America and turning out to be the daughter of a Russian Terrorist. At the end of Book #1, she was tracked down by Kazimir. Kat is also getting used to the idea that she finally has a boyfriend with Damon - the President's son. What happens though when the pair of them realize that danger is around every corner and that being in their shoes and living a normal life is out of the question. I have to admit , I don't actually like the character of Damon as it's like he knows he is hot and being the President's kid - he wants Kat and thinks he is entitled to have her and it's like he doesn't care about the dangers that are going on whereas Kat is more concerned about the kidnapping and the discovery of who her parents are. I hope that Kat and Tristan fall in love eventually as I love his character and we do see a bit of romance blossoming between the pair as they pretend to be a couple. The New Hope Academy books are quick YA reads with touches of YA romance, mysteries and boarding school life.
Was really exited to read the second book just as good if and better than the first one. I'm exited cannot wait for the third book fame to come out. Again kept me intrigued and guessing loved it so going to get book 3 when it comes out. Recommended for all to read.
Luck was another quick but enjoyable read. It’s even more fast paced than Fate with lots of drama and action. There are bigger developments and bigger dangers. It’s more intense as Katerina is torn between her love for her father and the knowledge that he’s not who she thought he was.
Katerina has been tracked down by one of her father’s men, Kazimir. He followed her to America and threatened her. Tristan saved her but Kazimir got away so Katerina has to remain on high alert. She calls her father for help but she also can’t let it slip that she knows the truth about him and what he does.
Katerina’s father comes to America to find Kazimir and kill him for going rogue and threatening his daughter. Katerina is still trying to come to terms with her father’s double life and is still grieving for her brother Eduard. They have to find a way to catch Kazimir and keep their secrets from getting out.
Katerina and Damon grow closer and spend more time together but things are complicated by the fact that her father is trying to kill him. At this point we start to see hints of a love triangle forming even as the relationship between Katerina and Damon is developing. I am not here for the love triangle.
The romance fell a little flat for me, it was really cheesy at times and I didn’t feel like Katerina and Damon had a real connection. Damon proclaims his love for Katerina and talks about getting married when they barely even know each other. Tristan starts to transition into a possible love interest but he’s five years older than her and it just seems a little creepy.
There isn’t a whole lot character development since the plot is mainly focused on Damon trying to win Katerina over and Kazimir trying to kill both of them. We do get more background on Tristan and on what Katerina’s childhood was like but her other friends don’t really contribute anything to the story.
I really enjoyed reading Luck, it was an entertaining, action-packed story with a bit of a star-crossed lovers vibe going on. The heart-pounding chases are balanced out with slower, more serious moments. There are a lot of typos though and it does ruin the moment. Still, I’m looking forward to the next book.
I am loving this series so far.📚😭 The way it's written, with the pacing, nothing feels dragged out. There's always a lot of action and its ever a dull moment. Katerina is having this internal conflict with who she thought her father was vs who he actually is. Whether she likes it or not, things are different now and she's embracing her new life at New Hope. She might have even found a purpose or calling.🕵🏻 Which I will second that.☝🏽️ Katerina and Damon have such cute moments. But my heart is torn between Damon and Tristan. The friendship between her and Tristan is amazing and hilarious. He's a good friend, protector, and... potential love interest.❤️😏 I feel like Katerina is the type of character that others can't help but fall in love with, hence why you want to ship her with everyone. She's not just beautiful on the outside, she has that spark that draws you in.✨
Full of excitement and young love, a great lead off into the 3rd book, and I still just love Katarina so much! She is an amazing person and a great role model for anyone!
A young girl that doesn't have any idea what her worth is because she has been sheltered. Tristan is her bodyguard however and she can't be having those types of feelings. Damon is the boy who pursued her from the get go. I liked his tenacity.
I recently found out that my Dad is a Russian terrorist planning to murder Damon, the son of the United States President...oh and by the way, he is my boyfriend.
I would have gladly given five stars to this book, but the wrong grammars really hurt my eyes.
Another good book in the series and really easy enjoyable read. There were a few grammatical errors but still enjoyable. Look forward to the next book.
The story is interesting, but the typos were off putting. I still read it as i was hooked and completed the 4 book series in a single Saturday of binge reading :) happy :)
Good "Luck" muddling thru all the typos & grammatical errors in the book
It's sad...I really like the story in these New Hope Academy books, but there are so many mistakes. It's like it hasn't been edited at all. There are typos, completely wrong words, characters' names are mixed up, and lots of grammatical errors. It really distracts from the books. I really want to find out what happens with Katerina, Tristan and Damon. But I don't know if I can make it through the whole series with all the mistakes in the writing.
The storyline seems good but the writing could be better. Katerina is anything but ordinary and mature beyond her years. Filled with espionage and security risks, this is not your typical high school experience. Character named are still mixed up.
