A.J. Marcus grew up in Texas. He’s always had a fascination with cowboys, comic books and the great outdoors. He started writing in high school and at times spent more time writing than he did reading, and he’s a voracious reader. Maybe it was growing up in Texas, but his love of rugged men showed up even before he realized what was going on. He likes his men manly, hard, tough and caring, men with hearts, and other parts, as big as Texas.

A.J. currently lives near Colorado Springs, Colorado with his loving partner and several horses. The men here are still men.

The story didn’t meet my expectations.

+ what I liked

I did like the characters to a small extent. I liked how Daniel, aka Torrent, wasn’t a complete pity party after his breakup with Burt as I feared. I liked Corran, aka Redwood, for his patience and persistence with Daniel. The smut, one lengthy scene in the middle and a short one at the end totaling two scenes, was hot. That was about the extent of my like for the story.

+ what I didn’t like

What didn’t work for me was the writing. It was easy to read and competently edited, but it didn’t suit the action-filled, superheroes-packed plot. A consistent strong sense of action was terribly lacking despite the shit that hit the fan.

My biggest issue with the story was the setting. I didn’t like the superhero organization. I thought they should have cut Daniel more slack for his brutality against supervillain Blaze. They shouldn’t even have put him on the front line when they knew he was an emotional wreck.

Hell, his breakup wouldn’t have happened in the first place if the organization provided protection details for the superheroes and their lovers whose identities got leaked and made public to everyone, especially the bad guys. What kind of superhero organization is it when loved ones of identity compromised superheroes keep getting kidnapped, held hostage, tortured, etc.? Bad enough that they suffered a security leak, worse that they implemented no contingencies after the fact. Management should have been fired across the board.

Later, the story revealed that one of the management may have colluded with a supervillain. It was not an outright betrayal, but enough to warrant an investigation and suspension. Unfortunately, it never happened, and the issue was never addressed after the revelation. I understood that Daniel and Corran getting together was focus of the story, not the conspiracy plot line, but it would have been nice if the plot line had small steps towards a resolution.

In Conclusion

I rate Passion’s Storm 2-stars for it was okay. It was solid superhero story and a nice romance, but it just didn’t excite me. Bummer.

What does Lois Lane really feel about dating Superman? Since the world doesn't know anything about Clark Kent, the Man of Steel's alter ego, perhaps it's fine. But what if his identity is up on the internet? As you suspected, villains would start to kidnap and torture her. That's what happened to Burt. So he left Daniel, a.k.a. Torrent, and moved to Missouri.

The book is about what happen to Daniel since Burt left. Got so frustrated with the situation, Daniel overkilled when he defeated a villain, which got him suspended from the Elite--a group of 'good' superheroes. He still loved Burt very much, and from what Burt said on the phone, so did Burt. So, anger and frustration were still inside. When he returned to his duty, he was introduced to Redwood, a newly recruited superhero. The new guy is very handsome and fun to be with. It's been several months since Burt left him. Would he be ready for another man?

This book pleasantly surprised me. it gives a different angle on superhero stories. It's fast pace, but not rushed, except at the end when it reveals some betrayal. I feel for Daniel, but also for Burt. I can imagine how difficult his life is with Daniel. The characters are likeable. I hope there'll be sequel to it.

Liked this a lot. Definitely not insta-love. Cool heros and lots of action. I thought that the events and action were very realistic, for a superhero story, especially the time it took Dan to work through his grief at the loss of his relationship before moving on.

I was surprised at who turned out to be the "bad guy," but I would have liked a touch more resolution where was concerned. I guess it was a nice change up that some of the "good guys" had character issues. [Spoilery spoiler follows]

I was a little disappointed that there were several typos or misused words. I hope the next story, which I intend to read, is better edited.

This book kept me reading well into the night. I couldn't put it down. I loved the emotion of Dan/Torrent whose lover leaves him after being kidnapped for the last time. Then he finally finds super-love with Corran/Redwood, a new superhero. I felt that the novella was extremely well written, and that the love scenes were tender and touching. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys m/m romance. The superhero angle is a real plus.

Superheroes seem to be an in thing right now. I found this novella a very compelling read. The way the two main characters meshed was very interesting. The powerful emotions that are portrayed keeps you eyes glued to the words. A.J. Marcus is definitely going on my to read list. Will be waiting for the sequel to this story.

I liked this story, the aspect of an outed super hero. Which problems comes with a super hero dating a normal human, and how super heroes are people who can feel the same range of emotions like everyone else.
I would have liked it to be longer, but it's enjoyable and worth the read.
