great resource. short, and to the point. i bought it impulsively to learn more, and hope that having the book around will encourage us to save more seeds to grow and share.
You’d think it would be simple, but these 30-odd pages contain deep mysteries. Why are some plants “selfers”, that don’t suffer from inbreeding depression, while others are “crossers” and require cross-pollinating outbreeding every generation? How far apart must different varieties be to cross-pollinate? Do the seeds dehisce naturally, or will you need to winnow and scalp and sift to get out the seeds?
This book opens the door and begins to answer these questions, but a lifetime of learning is needed to really understand seed saving!
