ROSLYN It was him. Conway Gentry. The boy I’d known years ago – the one who’d loved my best friend and was left shattered by her death – was now a macho adrenaline junkie, an arrogant womanizing hustler. There was not a single good reason on this earth to fall for him. But no one told my heart that.
CONWAY She didn’t seem like my type. Snobby, boringly mainstream and above all, tied to a part of my past I’d kill to forget, I should have just had my fun with her and moved on. Instead I kept coming back. I couldn’t help it. I’ve known for a long time that if you live fast you crash hard. But I also know that’s nothing compared to what love can do to you. To be released: August 26 (or sooner)
I'm a huge fan of insta-love , grunge era flannel, my vintage Kenmore sewing machine, embroidered dishcloths and absolutely everything that has to do with 1980s pop culture (i.e. leg warmers, scrunchies, big hair, early Madonna, boom boxes, wood paneled walls, stonewash jeans, etc).
If you believe in Happily Ever After and improbable love stories, chances are I'll love you too!!
From all the 5 star reviews I know I'm in the minority with my rating here, but I was rather disappointed in Edge. I have loved the Gentry series, this one not so much.
I was absolutely clamming for Conway's story after falling in love with his gentle soul in Cross and then his spiral into the depths of pain in Walk but I finished Edge not getting to know much more about him.
I didn't connect with Conway or Roslyn and not sure if I believe in their romance. I didn't get to see much of it, and after finishing the book still don't know very much about either character.
I feel rather ambivalent about this one, I really wanted to love it but couldn't.
I haven't read the rest of the Gentry boys' books but will get to it stat. I bought this at the spur of the moment for 99cents.
This was a sweet, romantic read. I expected major drama and angst based on the blurb but was pleasantly surprised. The main characters worked past their issues smoothly and....well, drama-less.
Disappointed. That's all I can say. Yes, this was a sweet, non-angsty story, but that was not what I was expecting or wanting from Conway.
Still love the series and of course loved catching up with all the Gentry boys, but this one was just a little too tame in my opinion.
And......don't even get me started on the typos! How is that possible? Aren't there editors, beta readers, etc. that would point this shit out. It irritates me.......
You know... It's always super hard to read (and write) a story about a guy who falls in love with his deceased ex-gf's BF... In my opinion (and when I look at the great ratings on goodreads, I don't share that opinion with a lot of people), this novel just could not live up to my expectations. In fact, it was really the book I liked the least in the series.
What made me mad? Well, first, no safe sex. Second, Roslyn. I mean, seriously, this girl??? Conway is her deceased BF's boyfriend!!! And I get that she doesn't like him in the beginning, that she pushes him away. In fact, I loved that. But just as it happens in sooo many other novels, she tells us, she tells herself she doesn't really like him but then she just lets him get her off and then they even go further and I was just shocked. I mean, she went there to watch a freaking movie - at least, that's what she tells herself, that's what she tells us. So where is your freaking backbone when he touches her?? Non-existent.
But hey, that's not the only thing that riled me up. Because, I mentioned that before, she and Con have history!! And she doesn't even mention that during their hook up. So... Yeah, not realistic for me. Also, made her look like an idiot.
Don't get me wrong, I then skipped to the ending because I was like: Hey, that can't be it. You can do it! But then I got disappointed there as well and I was like... Yeah, sorry. What annoyed me about the end? Well, there's this whole and they are so close to be together together but then again, Con does not disclose his secrets; he basically still lives on the edge and does not fully open up to Roslyn and I just couldn't put up with him anymore.
Recommended by a friend as I had kind of given up on this author after a couple of DNF results a while ago. I had read a couple of others in the series and they were hit and miss. Not an insta-love kind of girl I guess. This one? Definitely miss. Roslyn seemed nice enough. The first chapter actually had her building up to be quite a strong willed, independent woman. She had a great job, a nice friend and seemed to be moving on with her life. At a party she runs into her now deceased best friend's boyfriend, Conway, who is a completely skeeze. He purposely lives in a squat house and does a lot of shady things to make money. Much to her credit she flat out rejects him. I was clapping joyously. Perhaps Conway would have some personal growth to be able to match wits and be worthy of such a woman? No such chance. All of a sudden though with 10 pages she had a personality switch and allows herself to nailed up against the bathroom wall unprotected by Conway during a movie night after he touched her, never mind the fact they had about a ton of emotional baggage due to the deceased friend which should have been ironed out first. It's like the book version of an R. Kelly song. 'My minds telling me no... but my body... my body's telling me yeah...'. A really bad version. Which could have involved STD's as Conway was a man-slut to the 10th degree. I just can't with stuff like that. The author glossed over most of the 'dangerous' stuff that Conway liked to get up to and instead we spent 90% of the book waiting for him to get home like Harriet Housewife. In fact I became more interested in her best friend and her partner than those two. Not good. Nothing was dealt with and about the 50% mark I started skimming with boredom. Add in a surprise pregnancy due to said above banging? Ugh. There are better books in the series. Forget this one.

I've always liked Conway and Stone. After reading Conway's story and Rosalyn I realized that even after something tragic and awful. Two people can find love again. I know it doesn't happen for everyone. But in this case I have feeling Erin had alot to do with it as being Angel. She was looking out for the two people she loved more than anything. I'm also glad Conway knows the truth now. And that Stone and Conway have found each other again. Strength in brothers!!!
I received an ARC of Edge by Cora Brent for a honest review.
Edge is Conway Gentry And Roslyn Tory's story. We met him in previous stories about the Gentry boys and he is most notable for being Stone's brother and for losing his love Erin in an accident when they were kids. Conway became so bitter and pulled away from him family. In this book we finally get to see him come full circle. While at a party he again sees a girl from his past Roslyn who you will know as Erin's best friend. While Edge can be read as a standalone I highly recommend that you read the books prior, you will understand the story better, don't get me wrong Edge is perfectly fine on its own, you will just have a better understanding of all the people. I love how Cora includes all of the couples from the previous books and it ties in nicely with the current storyline and brings in new ones. I hope Emily finds her happily ever after(you gotta read this book to find out what I'm talking about :) it's sad but I'm sure something great is planned for her, at least I'm hoping). Besides what is a great love story with out a little heartache. I love Conway and Roslyn and I think this book has been my favorite so far. Conway went through a lot and now that he finally knows the truth about what happened on that horrible day he has been able to move on and we get a fabtastic book! I have a few series I love to read and this is right up on the top of that list. Keep up the fantastic story about the Gentry boys and the women who love them... I love how they have went from party/bad boys to family men. So thank you Cora for writing a story that I can get lost in and keep me coming back to read more about this family!!! I love this series and I highly recommend you read it, you too will love it!!!
Conway Gentry is the 6th of the Gentry boys I have been introduced to since I started this series back in 2014 with Draw (Cord). Im a big fan of Cora Brent's work and a huge follower of this series. HUGE. That being said, I really and truly enjoyed Edge, I just didnt get as entrenched in it as I did some of the other books in the series. The main characters Conway and Roslyn - each had their own unique back story, were well developed and easy to get acquainted with. This particular book just had a much lighter feel to it than the others have. There was one spot that was angsty but even that was short lived and relatively pain free whereas I felt it could have been developed a lot more as I had a lot of questions regarding the situation and needed some closure. :( Maybe if the book had been longer it could have gone into a lot more details and felt more real to me - i dont really know, im certainly not an author- but to me Edge just felt like a really light version of a Cora Brent book. It had a great story line and I loved getting to finally see Conway and Roslyn's story unfold, even if it left me feeling a little slighted and wanting more. I did love the ending. :) Edge gets 3.5*** WickedGoodStars and I truly hope there are more Gentry stories on the horizon!
I always wait for Cora Brent's new books with the same anticipation of a child at Christmas...always an exciting package to open and enjoy. When you stop chasing death and accept and move on from the grief that smothers you after the loss of a best friend or a lover...life can begin again and the journey will be well worth it. Conway and Roslyn both lost the most important person in their young lives and being that they shared this tragedy, it was very bittersweet when they meet each other at a party and begin, what can only be described at first as, an emotion-filled and tentative relationship. This author knows exactly how to build a story with impact...from the descriptions of her bad-boy alphas to the tender and passionate lovemaking and the tragic heartaches of her characters. Family plays a huge role in all of Brent's novels and we finally get the payoff for a long kept secret and some surprises (both happy and sad) as well. I loved the Gentry boys so much and was really excited to finally get Con's story. Bravo on another job well done.
***** 5 ***** "she brought the sunshine back into his world" stars
i guess i expected too much, since i read a few the previous books in the gentry series. There were too many gaps and parts missing for me in the story line. there was barely any buildup between the MCs or a real connection to be noticed.
I kept my promise not to have any preconceptions about this book and not to go looking for reasons to automatically hate the book. I liked Roslyn right off the bat. I liked who she was, what she did for a living, her attitude, and honesty. She was indeed a very classy woman and I liked how she responded to Conway's inappropriate advances towards her. That didn't last very long. I don't blame her for wanting to hang around Conway even though she tried to deny it. He was like a puzzle to her, he's a piece of Erin, and she's curious at how this man is the same boy who was once her best friend's very loving boyfriend. My problem was how they approached the whole acquaintance to a one night stand transition.
I was beyond disgusted with what they did. Both of them but more so with Roslyn. I had this picture of her in my head already from what type of person she is and right when he starts getting too friendly, I'm wondering whether she's gonna yell at him in anger and storm off or calmly tell him to f*ck off and move away. Final answer? Neither! She LETS HIM feel her up and finger her! I was shocked and felt nothing but disgust for this woman. She has no hesitation, no second thoughts at all, that this was her dead best friend's boyfriend before she died. I'm not saying that she can't be with him period. I'm not saying that Conway has to be celibate for the rest of his life. It's the way that they both conveniently forgot how they knew each other. They hardly talked about it when they were together. It didn't even bother them when they were just messing around at first. It's like that part of their past just disappeared. It was disrespectful to me. I expected to see them at least put up a fight for their feelings because they loved Erin and didn't want to disrespect her memory out of guilt for being interested in someone close to their loved one. It's a given that they should feel some sort of doubt over feeling something for someone that used to be the best friend and the boyfriend of a girl they loved. That's human nature. They showed none at all. All they were concerned about was sex and pretending Erin never existed.
She let him finger her when two of his friends were in that same room with them, one of them unknowingly to her was watching, granted she didn't know he was, but she knew that two men were there. That's not something a woman like her would be okay with. On top of that, that makes her no different from any other girl he took to his place. There was no reason for him to suddenly decide she was special and didn't deserve to be shown off in front of his friend, because she was behaving like a slut. She was just like any other girl at that point, so I don't see what he saw in her that set her apart from the rest of the girls he screwed. I felt so disappointed in her after that. She lost my respect and I just couldn't enjoy the rest of the book from there. I tried. I really did try to get over it but it kept coming back to that and all I could think of most of the time, was that their relationship was fake, she wasn't who she pretended to be, and there was no way he would have felt something amazing for her after a quick romp against the wall. It was physical attraction on his part. There was nothing about her that indicated she was something special and worth getting to know.
I'm not trying to bash on these two. It wasn't just them I had a problem with. I had the same issue with Emily and Jackson. They too showed this utter devotion to each other after knowing each other all of a night. It was weird and moved way too fast. It hinted that they'd had sex but later changed to they just talked all night which I found hard to believe. She also didn't seem like the type to just abandon her friend to spend the rest of the night with a guy she had just met. Do these GROWN women not have ANY common sense? Jackson seemed like someone who wasn't going to settle down for anyone and his cocky nature made me feel like Emily was just another girl to him. I thought she was just a game at first because of how playful he was towards her, it didn't seem like he was taking her seriously, then when they both ditched Roslyn and Conway, I figured his interest in her wouldn't last more than that night. Both of these two relationships just didn't feel real to me at all. They felt thrown together just because, for the story's sake.
I hated this book and had a hard time not throwing in the towel and just calling it quits. It felt like a chore finishing this. The only break I caught with this book was when it was over. It started off not so good with the first book and ended terribly on an even worse note with this book. I have no problem saying I will never ever read this book again and I half wish I'd just skipped it altogether. I'll leave it at that.
I read all Cora's books and loved Conway's. It's a light honest love story that can be enjoyed as a stand alone or praised as an awesome addition to the Gentry series!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mended, Sept. 28 2016 By Italbooklover Edit Review Delete Review Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: EDGE (Gentry Boys) (Kindle Edition) I've always liked Conway and Stone. After reading Conway's story and Rosalyn I realized that even after something tragic and awful. Two people can find love again. I know it doesn't happen for everyone. But in this case I have feeling Erin had alot to do with it as being Angel. First I have to say a loved this series so much and was glad to find them here on GR.I was excepting a bit more from Conway's book.Didn't always felt the connection between the characters.Im still not over Erin and to be honest,Cons and Erins chemistry in Cross was way way better written by Cora and that's why I'm not over her fate. But that's the authors decision and I can't wait for the next generation ;-))) still a nice read but not as kick ass good as the previous books.
ARC given for honest review.... I have loved every Gentry boys story & this one was no different, After losing the love of his life at a young age Conway has distanced himself from the rest of his family & is on the wrong side of the tracks until he meets a face from his past, can Roslyn help Conway find happiness? You'll have to read it & find out! Bravo Cora for another beautiful story
This was the best Gentry Boys book since Cord and Saylor! I loved loved loved this book!!!! you don't need to read all the others to read this but if you don't, you won't understand a lot of the side characters!! again LOVED LOVED LOVED this book!!!!!!!
Seven books and eleven years later I caught up with the complete Gentry Tribe. And just when I thought the saga was over the author is going to continue their story with The GENTRY GENERATIONS in 2017!!! I can't wait!!
Conway really surprised me with the change in his character, his romance with Rosalyn I liked nothing overshadowed by the past, just trying to move on. A realistic story with romance and I loved that Conway was able to move on and not stay stuck in the past.
Roslyn and Conway find love and redemption from loss and heartache. Roslyn has never forgotten best friend Erin. The beautiful spirit of a girl was taken far too soon from everyone and will always be missed. While moving on is never easy, she has, she went off to college and tried to become a well rounded member of society. She owes it to Erin to live life. While she isn't killing it in the romance department, otherwise she would say she is doing okay. Others cannot make the same claim. Conway has been in a downward spiral since losing Erin. The misunderstand that lead to her being lowered into the ground haunts him. So he punishes himself by leading a hedonistic lifestyle that would quite frankly make her weep with sadness. When a chance encounter brings Con and Roe back together for the first time, they are surprised to find that underneath their shared loss boils chemistry unlike the likes either of them has experienced. Conway soon realizes that this girl is not like the ones he has been passing away time with and he cannot use her as such. Moving on for love tough but losing love for a second time would be a tragedy.
Review to also be posted on Book Loving Fairy Blog . . Star Rating: 5 stars!
I was blown away! AGAIN!
Cora has this way about her writing that just makes you want more and more and more even after it's done and over. I have gobbled up every book and I loved every second I was in the Gentry world ❤
I mean I do have my favorite Gentry but who doesn't, seriously! I really enjoyed this one and Conway..I had several stop and breathe moments but overall this book was just amazing and if I could give more than 5 stars I totally would.
I love Cora's way of writing and I have loved every book that I have read of hers and will continue to!
If you're looking for spoilers on this book the most I will give is that Conway is someone that you need to meet if you have met the rest of the Gentry's.. I promise!
I'll start off by saying that whatever i say in this review it's a fraction of how i really feel about this book. In fact the whole series. I love it. I adore it. I'm so in love with it i won't be able to properly articulate my feelings for it. Quite frankly I'm a bit of a mess lol.
This is the last in this series. Thank the book god's (and Cora Brent of course) there will be a spin off cause I'm no where near ready to say goodbye.
This is Conway Gentry's story. Probably the most emotionally heartbreaking character in this series. Ever since he was introduced to us in Hold he had me. He reached out the pages (yes i know that sounds cray cray but whatever I'll own it) and grabbed a piece of my heart he will have forever. I have been waiting for this book since then and it did not disappoint. It exceeded everything i wanted and some i didn't.
We find Conway at a slightly better place than when we last saw him. He's slowly building bridges with Stone his brother but it's not quite mended. Not yet. He's still doing shady things he shouldn't be doing but he's started thinking more about his life and where it's going. The trip he and Stone paid to the cemetery brought this on. He's been made to think and feel again. He's been in the gutter for so long he's not really sure how to act around every day people. He's made a group of good friends along the way that we get to meet who are nearly as close to family as his real one. One night in a twist of fate he comes across a part of his past he'd never really given much thought to. Roslyn. She was his lost love Erin's best friend. When he knew her he only thought of her as Erin's stuck up best friend. Meeting her now at this time of his life brought lots of things to forefront of his mind to a time when he was decent and hard working. When he was young and carefree and in love. He didn't think love would be part of his life now, he didn't feel worthy. But looking at Roslyn something stirs inside him. Made him want to change his life.
Roslyn in the past year has been throwing herself into work. She loves her job and has given it everything. Even at the expense of her social life but she's happy enough. She lives with her friend Emily who she met in college. Emily gets her to go out one night to a party Roslyn reluctantly agrees and there she runs into a part of her past that still hurts. When Erin passed away her plans changed but she still kept Erin in her heart. Still wearing things that her best friend had brought her. Still going to visit her grave and keeping her memory alive. Seeing Conway who was a huge part of her friends life totally unsettles her. She never really liked him but seeing him again bring a rush of emotions she wasn't sure what to do with. When he touches her she's not sure what to do with it. She runs. When fate once again throws them together by her friend and his dating she finds she's drawn to him. The story goes from here.
The love in this book, the feels all through are off the chart. Not just from the relationship between Con and Roslyn which is just truly beautiful but from the other relationships he has too. Every time through abut 70% of the book the interactions between Con and Stone made me well up. They were once so close and through neither of their faults they were ripped apart. I wouldn't be happy until these two were close again. Thankfully they get fixed. Then there was his relationships with the triplets and Deck. All very different but equally as emotional. They all wanted to draw him in close but because of his past actions they didn't quite know how to do it. Then there was his relationships with his friends especially Jackson who like him was trying to get out of the life and make himself better, Roslyn's friend Emily was helping him do that. Without spoilers i just want to say Jackson made me cry like a mofo!! I was crying through this book lots and lots for various things and if you have loved this whole series like i have you will too! They've become like my family. I care a lot about what happens to them. Yes the cray cray again but that's how i feel. That's how this series has effected me. And that's how freaking awesome every single one of these books is!
The theme through this series has been family. Dragging themselves out of the gutter they came from the triplets built their life into happy stable families. Then came Deck. The one who was closer than even the triplets of going bad like his father and uncle before him but he too pulls himself up to a good life. Then Stone. Bad-boy wrongly accused turns into such a sweet beautiful person even after prison life to start his journey to a great life. And finally, finally Con joins them. This book ties the family together. Proving that no matter how bad of a background you come from there is always hope, there is always a family, whether it be blood or not you're never alone.
This book made my heart soar! It broke it too. But by the end it was the best ever!
I know, i know, gushy gushy, puke worthy review. But i just wanna say give this series a chance. I'm gushy for a reason. From the first book Hold to the last, this one, i have been hooked. One of THE best series i have ever read and I'm a complete book hoe so that's out of a lot! hahahaha Read them they're amazing!
5 Glorious Gentry FAMILY stars. If i could give this book a million stars i would and it still wouldn't be enough. Now I'm going to nurse my book hangover that's killing me already. LOVED IT!
Conway continued on a downward spiral after losing his teenage girlfriend. Despite numerous attempts by his family to turn life around; he liked living life on the edge. That is until he turns into his deceased girlfriend's bf. Roslyn has no intention of starting anything with this bad guy, but things quickly heat up for these two.
Yes Conway found his forever girl... Who cares who her friend was that was the past.. When these to see. Each other again Sparks Fly I really enjoyed Conway and finding out what he was up to and why he was staying away from his family.. to keep them safe!!! I still don't understand why no one said anything about best friend and girlfriend Erin and what her secret was... It just never came up? Overall loved this book.. Definitely a emotional book with some NOooooo!!! Why moments.
I love Conway so muchhhhh! I thought this would include way more of the illegal side and the dangerous world Con was a part of but I’m not complaining, it had enough. I loved the fact that their shared past wasn’t an obstacle in their relationship but more of a bond between them. I did shed the tears in the scenes where everything came clean between the Gentrys and I’m excited for the next adventure the couple and the whole family will have!
