Here is the Prologue
The tall grass rustled ahead and I ducked down immediately. It was there, beyond that small group of trees. And it was coming this way. I moved slow, hoping to avoid alerting the beast. My left hand curled around my thin curved wooded bow, while the other reached behind and loaded an arrow. I pulled the string back and waited.
The small brush rustled again and I felt my nerves tighten. Sweat dripped down the side of my head and I had to resist the urge to wipe it away. Any movement from me now would give away my position. I couldn’t risk that.
As if sensing my presence, I heard the beast sniff the air. Once. Twice. Three times. It was trying to catch my scent, but it was impossible. With all the dirt and grass I’d gotten on my clothes and skin, I smelled just like the surrounding forest. Still, I heard grass crunch under heavy feet as it decided to venture out further. Its head was visible now. I was only going to have one shot at this…
