For the past decade, omega Danny has been living in New York City, hiding his omega nature using illicit suppressants. He’s happy and free, not bound by his omega nature to submit and succumb to an alpha’s rule.

When Mike – the alpha Danny was originally intended to mate – appears in New York, seeking out information to help him track down a rogue alpha on a murder spree, he enlists help from Danny and his friends.

Danny tries to disregard his attraction and inherent need to be with Mike, but his efforts don’t last long. Soon the two are dealing with their complicated feelings while trying to stop a blood-mad alpha.

This story had potential. It’s the only word I can use to describe my reaction. This whole thing felt so rushed and incomplete that I was left a bit baffled trying to process what I’d just read. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a nice and easy read, but the character development was non-existent and the story itself felt choppy, like scenes were missing left, right and centre.

I see that the rest of the series continues to follow Danny and Mike’s story – which I’ll still read (at some point) – but I feel like opportunities were passed over, here, to make this introduction to these characters exciting and enjoyable.

This may have been one of my less likeable Aiden Bates reading experiences, but I'll forge on because I know I've enjoyed many of his stories in the past and I'm confident I'll do so again in the future.

Feels like half the story is missing

I know it's a short story but even so, there's almost no story narrative development at all.

Danny goes from suppressing his every omega instinct and running away from Mike when he was a teenager to screwing him bare within a few days of him turning up some years later.

There's a bizarre side plot of some big bad alpha doing something bad that's never really explained and it all gets wrapped up without any fleshing out.

And a half hearted fight scene where Danny gets hurt and pissed off at his friends for some, yes you guessed it, reason which is never fully explained as the one given makes no sense.

***** This City Wolves series opens up with a question. *****

Ten tears ago Danny left his pack and went to New York to have a life with freedom. He couldn't watch the Omegas being used as baby factories and slaves. He was to be mated to the rival pack's son, Alpha Mike. Mike has now come to New York to find a rogue wolf, and finds Danny. He still wants Omega Danny, but the answer is still no. The desire is there, but giving up his freedom is another. We get great characters, interesting plot lines, and hot sexiness. Aiden's sex scenes are amazing.
looking forward to book two.
Highly recommend. ENJOY !!

I sure hope "Lauren" is used as a boys name, or I'm going to be very disappointed in this author :(.

This book is a mess. It's very choppy and all of the transitions are confusing. But the ideas there are good. I think this deserves two stars but I gave it three because I'm into the sequel and am really enjoying it.

Torn

Not quite what I was expecting, as I've not really read many shifter books. It's slightly different to the ones I've read. The story line is good, I think I'll have to continue the next one to see how it goes.

Not the best

I've read this author's work before and enjoyed it, but this one left me puzzled. Not near enough character development. The story was stilted, as if parts were cut out. It went from never to mated without any explanation at all. The story definitely needs work.

Fast forward...

It all happened so fast...it was like reading fast forward. It would have been a really good story if the Author slowed down and actually added the details.

I felt like I was reading a 13 year olds story. It was short, no background to characters. Barely any plot and mostly felt like a bad fan fiction story.

Crappy Writing

The writing in this book was horrible. The details and the lack there off, sucked. The overuse of the same adjectives was a bore. This book was a waste of my time.

The Blogger Girls

I was really looking forward to this story and was thrilled when I saw that it was a pretty long series. What I expected in this story, since it was so short, was that it would lay the ground work for what was to come. What I found instead was a rushed outline without any depth. It seemed to miss a lot of important details and way too much was glossed over. It was, obviously, a fast read but when it ended I felt like I had just read a prologue and was a bit confused. I know this is an older book, and may not even be for sale anymore, so I am not going to judge too harshly, thus the three star rating.

I am still on the fence about continuing this series because if the next book is similar in the omission of world and character building it will put me off from reading this author in the future, and I don’t want that. Another big issue for me was the tag of mpreg, when there is none in this book. Mpreg was why I picked it up, in the first place, so that was bit annoying. What would make all this better for me is if this book was given an asterisk to say, “look, this is just a preview of what’s to come”. If I find that is the case, then I may pick up book two. Until then, I can’t recommend this book.

Overall Impression: It was okay

It's a serial.

I hate serials with a passion. I don't mind a series. But I hate cliffhangers. It feels like a trick to get short bits of a book and paying and paying. I did like the side characters.

Lol I'm so obsessed with Gordon Ramsay shows that I expect him to show himself in this book at any moment... god....
--------------------------------
10 years ago Danny run away from home, he was only 15. He couldnt live in a pack where the Omegas were treated as slaves by their Alphas. They were just breeding machines, nothing more. His pop had killed himself to be finally free and had Danny made him a promise, to never be used like he had been by Danny's father.
Danny's mating had already been decided, the son of the chief Alpha, he too 15, had been chosen as his mate.

Mike isnt a bad Alpha, but he is weak and always follows what his father says. Mike was attracted to Danny from the first time they met and also when Danny left he waited for him, while Danny, being an omega, couldnt resist touching and being with other ppl. I didnt like this thing, Danny still loves Mike but he had sex with other ppl. Sure they were never really a couple and Danny thought that they would never see each other again, but this still annoyed me a bit. There was also something that I didnt understand. Mike says that he pratically was celibate for 10 years, but later when he and Danny have sex bare, in his thoughts he tells us that he had already been with other Omegas, and with some also like he was with Danny now. They were both only 15, so or they started havign sex really soon or the author forgot what he wrote before. Anyway I really wanted to know if before Danny left his pack, he and Mike had been intimate, bcs later in the book or maybe in the next, I forgot, Danny tells us that he remembers when he and Mike were walking together in the woods alone, so this makes us believe that they spent some time together before Danny left.

There were some annoying secondary characters in this book. The worst of them all was Danny's father, that jerk and abusive asshole, I was really sad when I read about Danny's pop suicide. I can understand why Danny hates all the Alphas and why he promised to himself to never submit to an Alpha and to live in another city, far away from other wolves, and never to be with another wolf or get pregnant. He lives like an human and makes friends. He has a name, something tha the other Omegas dont have. Danny was incredibly strong and I admired him. He poisoned his body with silver to make himself unable to be charmed by any Alpha.
When one day he and Mike meet again in a bar that Danny frequents, all goes to shit. Danny is furious with friend Silas bcs the man didnt tell him that Mike was in town, but Danny still loves Mike, and the Alpha never forgot about him, not even after 10 years.
Mike calls the oOega by his name, and talks with him as if they are on the same level. He respects Danny and when they finally are unable to resist the pull of their mating, all that happens is bcs Danny wants it, asks for it and not bcs an Alpha commands him.

Mike is happy, he is now mated with the wolf he has always loved.
The book ends like this with them mating and falling asleep cuddling in bed.

I really loved Danny, he is not the usual Omega. He is smart and proud and never submits. There were some really sad part in this book, like the scene about his pop, but there were also sweet moments. This first book is really too short and the story moves fast, but I was interested in the plot till the end and soon after I started the next book, that btw pissed me off....

In this first book I liked Mike, he is lovestruck and also if he fakes to hate Danny at start bcs he left him, we all see that for what it really is, a lie.

There is bickering and some funny secondary chars, that really care for Danny and want to protect him. There are also some bad guys, and in one of the scenes we see how Danny fights with them and shows Mike that he isnt weak.

Not bad.

Wow, this just might rank up there as one of the worst shifter stories if not THE worst I've ever read. The scene changes were abrupt and without warning and the world-building was terrible. I always thought I could read any shifter story without all the explanations since I read so many but I was confused about several things here. Word choice was poor in several places and created an unsexy vibe. There was even one part when i thought the guys were on third base then I find out they are actually having sex and knotting-talk about unclear and out of left field!

I'm especially disappointed because the first couple pages seemed very promising (when someone you were promised to says you ruined their life, the reader tends to be intrigued!) and I thought since this was a new to me author I might have found a plethora of new shifter stories to read. Instead I will not be continuing this serious. I am going to give this other another try but this one was just terrible.

*explicit content*
A short story of Danny trying to live life on his own terms and not dependent on have to follow the orders of an Alpha. Danny did not think about the consequences Mike faced when the Omega given to him ran away. Mike was not expecting to see Danny again, especially while hunting for a rogue werewolf. Danny has avoided his own kind, feels a real pull toward Mike, but he cannot forget the way Alpha's stereotypically treat Omegas.

Danny is kind of badass for an omega and he knows what he wants, which is not a mating. This theme carries throughout most of the book although I found the ending puzzling and abrupt. The adventure/suspense element of the book was a little weak but gave the story some form at least. I kept hoping that the past would be explained more fully and that we would get more detail on the Tipsy Raven group. I think this would have been much better developed into a full-length novel with time for Danny and Mike's emotions and understanding to build naturally. I was entertained enough to be looking forward to the next in the series.

A slow beginning

Danny the omega and Mike the Alpha pulled apart by not meeting wolf stereotypes when Mike pitches up hunting a rogue wolf who is killing and turning humans.
Danny has made a life for himself in New York passing as human and not giving I to his omega urges. What he does not need is to see Mike again.
This story has a good premise but is too rushed so you do not get to understand the protagonists action. Although labelled as the first of a series;more background is required with world building to make a satisfying read.
I like the feel of Danny and it appears he can kick ass.
I'll wait to see how this series develops.

Hell's Kitchen... Hell's Kitchen.. I got it! Daredevil the movie, that's what the title reminds me of.

Oh but there are NO similarities! Besides the fact that this has werewolves in it, this group is not living in hell or struggling against a tide of evilness. The title doesn't even match, has nothing to do with the kitchen, just where Danny works.

So, to the actual story.. it was ok. Mostly a typical omega/alpha type story with the omega trying to suppress his urges with no real reason given. Regardless, I think I can actually get into reading the following books.

2.5/5

This book has potential to be something more, but it ended up being flat and unfinished. Especially the writing which wasn't too bad but incredibly brief and vague. Ever sentence felt half written, as if they have more to say but couldn't do so. Most scene was skim over without any elaboration whether emotionally, or physically, distancing me from the story.

All in all, the book was like a half eaten cake left in your fridge, leaving you felt cheated when you grumpily ate the thing but couldn't complain much about it either because after all it was free.

***2016 has been a very unstable year. Not only have I lost favourite role models in droves, I have been into dark places more times than I could count. Yes, I experienced highlights as well but the darkness has had a big impact this year and the only way to keep it at bay was reading, mass reading, back to back books with no stopping and no reviewing. I do apologize to all the writers that I won’t be able to review their books yet but I will get to it. Promise!***

Great start of an interesting story

Danny isn't the average omega. He's not going to just bend over and take someone's orders. Mike at first seems like the typical arrogant alpha but he seems to really care for Danny. It looks like this will be a great start to an interesting story.

Mike & Danny were just made for each other. Even though they were mates, their chemistry was undeniable. Danny fought being anyone mate for so long, but when they mated, he thought everything righted itself in his life. I can't wait to read book two in this series. I hope Mike shows what a true alpha does, and I can't wait to see how Danny responds to it.

There was a lot going on in this short story. But the ending really sucked, it just ended. I wanted to hear more about what truly happened to Mike when Danny left when they were younger. I wanted to hear more about them know that the mating happened at the end.
