Deirdre is a SUPer, a government owned robot in the time before Perfect Partners were released. Originally designed to be a battlefield intelligence unit, politics demanded her unit be scrapped or sent to work in a less controversial profession.
Now, she's a parole agent for recently released criminals in need of supervision...nicknamed Anklets by their criminal charges. And this time she's got herself a doozy for a client. Greg, a petty thief and con artist with a rap sheet extending back more than 40 years, is almost more than she can handle. Between arthritis and illegal card games, Deirdre and Greg forge a new relationship even as the world around them shifts and alters in startling ways.
Corrections is volume five in the Perfect Partners, Incorporated series. None of the books need to be read in any particular order, but you can try the series with a free short story called PePr, Inc.
Ann lives by the sea under the benevolent rule of her canine overlord and an incredibly foul-mouthed cat. A scientist and Navy officer by profession, the writing bug somehow got inside her during her travels. She's now stuck with it and can't stop writing.
She writes fully immersive works of science fiction and apocalyptic fiction. Ann is also a voracious reader, and adores a well-done audiobook. If she's not writing, then she's reading or listening.
I absolutely loved this book. The author delves into the history of the PePrs military origins which I found intriguing. The story centers around Deidre a SUPr now utilized by the Corrections Department. She oversees the parole of a Greg a former con artist trying to reintegrate into society.Ann Christy weaves a world were the PePrs can feel just as human as us.I look forward to reading more works set in the PePr universe.I highly recommend this book to any fan of the Sci-Fi genre.I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Loved it! This story is about the robots before Perfect Partners; SuPers and how it was just the beginning era of them devoloping feelings. I liked it very much and Greg lol! Just an amazing story. Definitely a must read. Got an arc in exchange of an honest review.
I love these stories... Each one the these books helps to build a more complete world... This story goes back into the evolution of the PePr's. Perfect partner androids... Corrections starts with Deirdre a SUPer an earlier model... But even so at this stage there are issues and she is dealing with all the emotions a human might feel... She's been taken out of the military and moved into the private sector... Working with a police office, she has been teamed up with a parolee Greg, in order to track his daily movements, like an anklet... Deirdre knows for her safely that she can't show any emotions... She works hard to stay safe and to keep others like her safe... All the while developing a budding friendship with Greg... Building something that goes beyond a man and his "anklet"... So get the book and despite the fact that it is labeled #5 each of these stories are standalone... And there is absolutely no need to read any them in order... So if you want to read about dogs, read book 4 first, or to find out how these PePr's fit in the sex industry try book 1... But whatever you do just pick one up, you'll love it!!! Then read the rest...
Firstly, I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Secondly, it's honestly a great novella, which continues Ann Christy's PePr universe series by stepping back to the beginnings of the story.
Here we find out about Deirdre, a earlier model known is SUPr. Now these SUPr robots were initially developed for field medical support in the military, but have since been utilized by the corrections department to 'babysit' parolees.
Deirdre is different & she's not the only SUPr with issues! Then came Greg. Her new parole Greg is a jack-of-trades criminal.....
I enjoyed reading about the origins of PePr inc, being used as an alternative to an ankle monitor for criminals is not something you would expect from these robots. The interaction between Deirdre and her human charge is fun to follow and there are many unexpected situations that crop up as the story progresses. A great series with amazing characters, very well written as always.
Ann Christy's PePr series is marvelous. I didn't think she could top my love of her Dogcatcher, but she did. She melds the robot with the human so well that you forget sometimes that you are listening to a robot's story.
Reading Corrections was great fun! The look back into the history of the PePrs is fascinating, and Deidre’s current job as a parole agent is just as interesting. I think the term anklet fits her job description pretty well. The job is a thankless one at best and a horrid one at worst. It makes sense to delegate the work of supervising parolees to robots. They aren’t disturbed by emotions.
Until they are, which is the heart of this story. I hadn’t thought of robots in terms of evolution, but that is the term that seems to fit best. Not the machine parts, of course, but certainly their intellect and emotions are developing over time. Deidre adapts well to compassion, and I loved her quiet value judgements. Greg is also a wonderful character, criminal history and all. He made me smile a lot.
Great story and excellent characters! Yet another new favorite PePr story and I thank Ann Christy for the ARC. I hope Deidre will be back later – she’s unique.

In this novella Ann Christy introduces the reader to the Deidre, a SUPr that is utilized by the corrections department to oversee parolees. Deidre has been assigned to Greg, who is a former con artist. Her job is not only to oversee Greg to make sure he doesn't fall back into his old ways, but is to also try to reintegrate him into society.
This story does a really good job of telling some back story of the PePr universe before PePr's were a common thing. I really enjoyed this book and can hardly wait to read more about the PePr universe!
Ann Christy is a superb writer. Her grammar is perfect and her humor is awesome. I will look forward to her future works if it's anything like the PePer series of stories. Her storytelling is so directed at the 'human' side of things, it makes it completely believable. I can't wait for more. Great, great great, great! I'm done with my review.
Value in Humans not Normally Thought of AS Valuable This book is set, time wise, in a period just as the Perfect Partners are beginning to be available for purchasing. Here we learn about their predecessors, SUPers. This story was absolutely thrilling to read. I marvel that to my way of thinking Ann Christy couldn't possibly match the previous book but always does. I can't compare them - it would be akin to trying to compare apples to oranges, each has endearing qualities, each book is fabulous in it's own right. This book, however, brings to light the subject of rehabilitation of 'the criminal element' in our society... or in the Imaginary society where the story takes place.
Beautifully woven, the story brings home to me that there is often value in people who are normally not thought of as being of value. I loved this addition to the Perfect Partners world. I highly recommend it.
