Here Comes Trouble

Rate this book
Sterek

All Derek wants is one day where he can sleep without worry of being woken by gunfire, without the threat of death hanging over his head. He wants a full stomach and no pain clinging to his bones, no ache in his feet from months of running. He wants a shower, a safe place to put his head. He wants his family, the healing comfort of pack. He'll never have any of that again.

got to about 75 percent of this and just... wandered off.

really self indulgent and aimless fic that doesn't do much with any of the trope or canon inversions or subversions it introduces.

bunch of things annoyed me, but mostly my beef is with the way derek's character is irritatingly different, but to no apparent utility.

This was not the fic for me. I'm not a fan of A/B/O stories, so that was an immediate drawback. Others will enjoy this a lot more than me. The intimate sexy times between Stiles and Derek were good though didn't happen until late in the story. Plus Scott is a doctor and not stupid so that didn't help.

I have liked other stories by Grimm (AO3) but this one was very off. Derek as an omega was hard to wrap my mind around as well as Stiles being a human Omega. The majority of the piece was full of Derek being depressed, fearful, timid, etc....with Stiles trying to get him to come out of his shell. When the climax of the story is reached, there are so many scenes that don't seem based in any "pack" dynamics or law enforcement dynamics that I almost gave up. But a picture had been painted of Dereck that I felt I had to keep slogging to finish. There were just too many inconsistencies with the story plus the weird flipped alpha/omega thing. Not my cup of tea.
