Rate this book
Lying. Deception. Cover-ups. Anger. Revenge. Death. That’s what happens when an Aries-obsessed killer combines black magick rituals, knives…and murder.

Samantha Wright, a rookie NYPD detective, gets her first case, a big one, by stumbling over the body while jogging in the park. Sam has a lot to prove, both to herself and to her new precinct, on this serial murder case involving fashion icons in NYC. Together with a rough around the edges BJJ fighter, forensic psychiatrist, Frank Khaos, Sam chases down leads through the five boroughs of NYC. As the bodies pile up, sparks fly and Sam and Frank, polar opposites, go from their dislike for each other to setting the sheets on fire. But their main suspect is hooked up to an IV in a hospital bed, so how has she pulled off five murders in seven days? And can Sam and Frank stop her before even more innocent lives are lost?

Rookie Samantha Wright starts her first day as a Detective with a bang! While on her daily run, she stumbles over the dead body of a fashion designer in the park.

When another fashion designer's body is found murdered, Sam teams up with her new partner, Nick, and Forensic Psychiatrist Frank.

There is just a little bit of everything in this oh-so-interesting book. To start with, there's an Aries-obsessed murderer, Spirit Guides, Wicca, Psychic ability. Then there's Black Magic, rituals, and knives. Throw in some Mixed Martial Arts, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and you get a story filled with Lies, Deception, Anger, Revenge, and Death. You also get a little romance, a little bondage, a little explicit sex.

The secondary story is that of Frank's deceased wife. She was murdered 2 years prior and the person responsible has never been found. At one time, it was suspected that gang members were the culprits, but that has never been proven.

The closer Sam, Nick, and Frank get to the truth, the more they feel the killer is closer than they thought.

Very good mystery with a little paranormal thrown in. I liked the main characters .. they all seem to mesh very well. Samantha may strike the reader as a ditzy blonde ... but she is anything but. I hope she shows up in future stories by this author.

Many thanks to the author who provided a digital copy in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

I go through phases regarding books I like and do not like to read and it has been a long time since a crime thriller like Aries has really gripped my attention. I’m so strange when it comes to these kinds of books because certain requirements need to be met. Amongst these conditions is the inability to let it go; if I HAVE TO know what happened – it’s a good book. If I NEED to find out what that clue is; it’s a great book. If I CANNOT put it down; even to sleep; well then people we have a winner. Aries was a great book and I found myself longing to know the how’s; why’s and who’s.

Although each character had an excellent back story and the plot extremely well thought out I found that one drawback for me was that I didn’t like how quickly Sam and Frank’s relationship developed. For me; given both their pasts; I would have preferred that their relationship developed over a series of books rather than within this story. I felt that this story certainly could have laid out the foundation for their relationship but by trying to fit their relationship development within this book a lot has been missed out and rushed through.

That being said; that is my only problem with the book and it wasn’t such a big problem that I didn’t enjoy the story. Allen is a remarkable story teller and the twists and turns that her plot takes are exciting and breathe taking. Her characters are not only realistic but so diverse that each character adds their little bit of flare to the story. This is a true tale of manipulation; anger and resentment while balancing out with healing; determination and a spice of love. I would recommend this book wholeheartedly for anyone looking for the thrill of an investigation and a hint of Magic.

I really like the the double investigations to find two murders cases. I like the connections Sam had with her team and the closure at the end.

Story was ok but I was hoping for at least some astrology and there was none whatsoever. Well, apart from 'the moon in Mars conjunct hour' which possibly means the hour when the moon and mars are conjunct.

I'm not a fan of crime novels, thrillers (psychological or otherwise) or the paranormal but after reading and enjoying Book 1, Gemini, in The Sign Behind the Crime series, I decided to read the second book in the series as well.

The book follows rookie Detective Samantha Wright. Prior to beginning her first day as detective, she goes for a jog and literally runs into a murder victim. She integrates herself into her detective team as they attempt to solve that - and several more connected murders. She's also working on the cold case of the murder of the wife of psychiatrist on the team, Dr. Frank Khaos. And it wouldn't be a Ronnie Allen novel without the sexual tension of the developing relationship between Wright and Khaos.

Ronnie Allen writes is a master at plotting and character development. She expertly wove her sub-plots together seamlessly. I can very easily see this novel adapted for the big screen.
