Byblos Foretold #3

Dames Engaged

Rate this book
As she nears the moment of decision, new trials arise for Mrs. Biddle. The wily, if dimwitted, Felicia has somehow conceived plans of her own, while Tomasz, Mrs. Biddle’s former devotee, now conspires against her. Worse still, her more-often-than-not steadfast servant Mélisande allows herself to be distracted by a sweet-talking flank attack.

How, you ask, will Mrs. Biddle combat these challenges? Why, with the usual combination of deceit, psychological handling, and thinly veiled extortion, of course. She may be a self-serving schemer, and have the ethics of a Borgia, but no one can accuse her of not being consistent.

This compelling episode begins with Father Timoteo conducting a sparsely attended funeral, and ends with him performing an ill-omened wedding (you’ll never guess whose). In between, there’s a revealing séance, a remarkable fish story, a kidnapping, a not entirely unanticipated marital indiscretion, a parting of ways, and a voodoo rite out at the old Congo dancing-ground.

About the author

M.E. Meegs

12 books45 followers
M.E. Meegs began writing epic poetry while still in the cradle, though her first real recognition came only after the completion of her dramatic tragedy, Dolly’s Fourth, and Final, Crusade. Written when she was five, it chronicles the midnight adventure of a favorite doll, which ended sadly in the jaws of a neighbor’s mastiff.

She lives now in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, with a first-class typewriter and a middling husband who will soon be in need of a food taster if he doesn’t begin showing a little more appreciation for her literary efforts.

A truly loving soul, she harbors neither children nor pets—fearing the temptation to make sacrifices of them to her tetchy muse might prove irresistible. She does, however, heartily enjoy the company of her devotees, so please do stop by her virtual home at: MEMeegs.com

Okay. So I just did one of those FCCUGTT™ for Peddlers All. I'm sorry, what? You forgot your Murderous Crustacean Acronym Dictionary (MCAD™) again? I can't believe this. I'm willing to help you this one time but it will be the last FCCUGTT™ is the acronym for Fascinating Cut the Crap and Unload the Gifs Type Thingies. You're welcome. So. As I was saying before you annoyingly interrupted me, I just did a FCCUGTT™ for Peddlers All. And things are really looking up for you because I'm about to do one of those Super Tiny FCCUGTT™ (STFCCUGTT™) ← that's called an Incremental Acronym, in case you didn't know for this story right here. Which means this review is going to be so short no pit stop will be required. Lucky you.

Oh look at you, dancing around in celebration. Well you better make the most of it because this is just one-time thing. We'll be back to Pit Stop Required Reviews (PSRR™) in less time than it takes to say "oh please, not again."

This serial in a nutshell?

It started like this:

Yep, that's right, it was so good even my Darthy was excited.

And ended like this:

Very sad, but very true.

Bye now.

This is the 3rd book in the series and like all the other ones before, was a delight to read. Its a little hard to describe because even though there is romance its not your typical romanic read, there are some shady, yet funny characters, a lot of plotting and each person trying to outmaneuver the other person, that is where the humor comes in. But all in all just very entertaining. However since this is the last book in the series I would recommend that you read them in order, because otherwise you might be a little lost, but it is all well worth it.
