On a stormy night in Atlanta, Jessie Graham's car swerved to avoid a head-on collision, went off the side of the road, crashed into a tree, and changed her life forever. Doctor David Miller, the driver of the second car, pulled the unconscious Jessie from the wreckage. After the ambulance drove away, David doubted he'd ever see the stunning blonde again. Yet, a little over a year later, Jessie and her domineering mother walked into his office in Augusta, Georgia. Jessie's mother was insistent that Jessie needed psychotherapy. Was it a coincidence or fate that had brought the two back together? Would David find a way to save Jessie again? Or would the attraction between the two, along with Jessie's fears and David's secrets, tear Jessie's life apart once more?

I really liked the book. Great characters that were fully developed. I put this into the beach read category and think most people would enjoy this quick read. I read in a couple of days. First time I have read this author but will watch for other books.

Life Choices
By J. A. Stone
On a rain-slicked on a winding road, a couple having a disagreement when she says she was going to have baby. Distracted, in shock from the news, bright lights coming that them, then re-focuses on the road; but, forgetting that it had been raining, he over-corrects, losing control of the car. Life as she knew it; had been altered, permanently. In a jumble mess of twisted metal, wrapped around a massive oak tree, up-side down; tragically took two lives.
The second cars driver, also distracted; but, by a name lighting up his cell phone. His pregnant sister’s husbands, calling to let him know the babies had been born. On-coming headlights broke the darkness of the night and see a red flash of a car doing a full-spin; heading into a sideways slid, over the side of the road. Cursing, dropping his phone; not thinking, jumps out of his car and runs to the edge of the road; wanting to help. Knowing that he needed help, reaches for his phone, and remembering he had dropped his phone in his car.
The driver’s side was pancaked against the tree, no way to open the driver’s door, reaching inside hoping to find a pulse without success. A blond woman unconscious, hanging between the seatbelt and the airbag; moving around to the cars other side in time to hear her moan. A good sign, opens the door, reaches in, holding her in place with one arm; while fumbling with the button to release the seatbelt holding her in place. But, it would not let her go; she opens her eyes, looks at him, and whispers “Help me”, then passes out.
Devastation overwhelms each coherent part of Jessica’s life, as she tries picking up the odds and ends of her life. Life becoming very unsettling, to Jessica; almost as if she were a stranger in her own life. Visions of what her life could have been like, with her husband; haunt her dreams. As time passed; Jessica’s physical wounds healed; while, parts of her memory played games with her mind. The dreams that invaded her mind; the lives that were lost that rainy night, seem so real that her heart aches for what was lost; but, are truly unsettling as if replaying the same movie repeatedly in her head.
Seeking help; at the insistence of her mother. Looked up at the doctor, she says hello, he recalled those startlingly blue eyes; but, could not remember why. All she knew, was a stranger had rescued her; not that person, had been the doctor now looking into her eyes. As therapy progressed; those blue eyes again stirred a vague uneasiness within the doctor. While, she had been reciting the facts about the accident; the doctor started to recall the night he had rescued a young woman from a vehicle, on a rainy night, and knew that this was the woman he had saved.
The doctor tells his partner, that the patent he was now treating; was the woman from the accident he had rescued. His partner wants him to transfer her care over to him, because he is too close to this to really be a good therapist for her. Refusing, he wants to make sure, and then he wants to tell her, himself that he was the one that had saved her. He comes clean, tells her he was there, that he saved her; she becomes furious and leaves.
Willing to let him explain, she realized that he had no way of knowing that their paths would cross again; but, when they did she had come for help in focusing on the memorizes. And by the time he realized who she was, he was concerned that if he had told her; he was concerned with setting her back on the progress she had made. While at the mall, she meets a mother with twins, she offers to help the mother; they start talking, lets out that she is looking for a job and a place to live. Which was just what the mother of the twins was needing and offers her to move in and help her; not knowing who each other were. She moves in with his sister to help with her twins; while continuing therapy with his partner.
Doctor 1, goes to visit his sister; while they are visiting the woman from the wreck walks in to go take care of the twins. When everything becomes known to the sister who she was and how she knew her brother. Given time to talk, they all become friends; she ends up staying on with the sister. In time, she and her first doctor; become close, and admit that they have feeling for each other......
This book was very well written, had me wanting to know what was going to happen next; would they tell each other that they had feelings or just go separate ways, never to see each other again. I would have to give Life Choices by J. A. Stone, a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. Well done.

Once I started reading this book, I couldn't put it down. This was my first book of J.A. Stone, but not my last. I really enjoyed this story! I couldn't wait for Jessie's visits to see Dr. Miller and to watch her heal with his loving care. Great character development and pacing. Jessie did seem a little young for her age, but that was mentioned in the story so was meant to be that way. Nick was disgusting and couldn't see what Jessie ever saw in him, ever. Rita, yikes, horrible woman and wished she had softened a little more, but I get it's hard to change when you wear a mask for so long. David Miller was awesome and wanted things to speed up faster between him and Jessie, but that's just the romantic in me. I did picture him as the "therapist" even when he would talk to her lovingly outside of therapy, trying to decipher his feelings, but always wanting to keep things professional, which I admired. I loved the snow fight and wanted more out of that, ha! I enjoyed the ending and glad it all worked out, because I was getting worried with all the misunderstandings that they'd never get together!

Good depiction of Jessie's depression and really felt for her. Also, the financial situation stayed true to life for a woman without her own money and loved how she found a way to get that painting. A funny thing happened to me as I read the part of the red bird. I was looking out my window when I saw a red bird (Cardinal) hop on the ground and fly to a tree, so I thought that was cool and worth mentioning. I loved the meaning of that bird in the story and got how it was connected to Jessie and David; what a romantic notion!

Overall, I'd definitely recommend this book!

I'm a big fan of J.A. Stone's novels. She's always willing to explore thought provoking issues in her novels, and Life Choices is no exception. Jessie Graham is involved in an near head-on collision that results in the death of her husband, and Dr. David Miller, whose car he nearly hit, pulls the stunning blonde out of the wreckage. A year later, Jessie visits Dr. Miller’s office in Augusta seeking psychotherapy, not knowing that he’s the man who was involved in her accident. Dr. Miller feels an attraction to his patient but doesn’t initially recognize her. When he finally does, it’s too late: He’s already in love with her. Now the doctor faces all manner of thorny ethical issues when it come to courting, not only his patient, but a woman whose life he may have inadvertently ruined. Readers will find themselves rooting for two flawed and compelling people who clearly belong together. I loved this book.

Jessie was in a serious car accident on a rainy night where her husband did not make it and she lost her unborn child. David saw the accident occur and helped Jessie escape from the wreckage. David is a psychologist who moves to Jessie's town to go into partnership with his best friend, and his first patient turns out to be.......you guessed it!

This book was a little sappy but the worst part for me is some of the unethical behavior of David. He always rationalized how some of the things he was doing was best for Jessie, but the whole story just made me very uncomfortable.

Still, during a time where I am having trouble sticking with a book, I did finish this one. I was interested to see how Jessie would fare.
