About the author

Liz Schulte

Many authors claim to have known their calling from a young age. Liz Schulte, however, didn't always want to be an author. In fact, she had no clue. Liz wanted to be a veterinarian, then she wanted to be a lawyer, then she wanted to be a criminal profiler. In a valiant effort to keep from becoming Walter Mitty, Liz put pen to paper and began writing her first novel. It was at that moment she realized this is what she was meant to do. As a scribe she could be all of those things and so much more.

When Liz isn't writing or on social networks she is inflicting movie quotes and trivia on people, reading, traveling, and hanging out with friends and family. Liz is a Midwest girl through and through, though she would be perfectly happy never having to shovel her driveway again. She has a love for all things spooky, supernatural, and snarky. Her favorite authors range from Edgar Allen Poe to Joseph Heller to Jane Austen to Jim Butcher and everything in between.

Idioma: inglés. Mezcla de romance y vampiros. Una chica que esta recién convertida en vampira intentando asimilar ese nuevo mundo en su nueva tienda (panadería). Corto, ligero, fácil de leer, muy romantico. 3.3/5.0

This was really promising! The cover is just really wrong. I expected something funny and cozy. But what I got felt like UF and I was intrigued.

She is a vamp, she owns a bakery.
Ok so this weird guy that guessed she was a vamp from nothing, ok so that was bad and really silly.
But other than that it was really good.

Way too short though!
I'd read more.

It’s almost Halloween and Maggie Edwards has huge plans. She’s opening her own bakery and what better day for her grand opening than Halloween?

There’s just one slight problem. Maggie is a new half vampire - eating, sleeping and even dying aren’t going to be happening. Being a newbie Maggie has to learn to find her own nourishment and she’s not quite good at that just yet. She also must keep her status a secret from humans.

When a reporter starts snooping, Maggie must convince him to mind his own business or risk both of their lives.

This isn’t my usual read, but it’s a short novella and I was looking for a quickie to read in just a few hours. Knead to Know is perfect for that. I lost myself in Maggie’s world and enjoyed it.

It’s fast-paced, fun and a cute read. I’ll have to check out the next book in the series. This was a good way to get to know the cast.

Sweets for the not so sweet

A short beginning book to a new series. The book is very interesting and holds the readers attention. Opening a bakery after becoming a half vampire has it's own sort of problems.

2 stars - Heavily reliant on knowledge of previous series, very little character or plot development, very little understood or resolved by the end, reading bait for rest of the series

Knead to Know by Liz Schulte seems to be a prequel to the "Knead to Know" series. At this point, I'm not sure if the series would be considered mysteries or romances or what have you. The main character is half-vampire Maggie Edwards, who is on the verge of opening the bakery she's always dreamed of.

Maggie isn't about to let something like being half-vampire ruin her dream of having her own bakery, although it's too bad she can't taste what she bakes. Mere days from her grand opening, her shipment of display cases is delayed, she hasn't fed in far too long, and a nosy reporter witnesses her incredible healing ability after Maggie has an accident in her kitchen. Now she needs to find an alternate source of cases, hunt down a demon or two to feed from, and try to convince Garrett that he didn't see what he saw. Luckily, Maggie has friends, including her new handyman, Boone, to help her out. Will it be on time for opening day?

Eh...not sure what I just read. As mentioned, there was no mystery, and not much in the way of romance. Maggie finds both Boone and Garrett attractive, along with the jinn, Phoenix, but it's not like there was a budding relationship. It seems the author was simply setting up the series. I still would have liked there to be a point to the plot, along with some resolution, but again, this was shorter than I had anticipated. Maggie was likable enough, I guess. Her recipes sounded delightful. Also, I believe this is a spin-off of another series, which only added to the confusion in my opinion. Don't assume your readers have read your other works.

Favorite line: "You would be to blame. It's a heavy burden to carry. Ask Mrs O'Leary's cow."

Least favorite line: Or maybe I'd read one too many Liz Schulte books and watched too many movies.
While self-insertion may be fun in certain private situations, it is not amusing when a creator uses it in his/her art or writing or film, unless, of course, your name is Alfred Hitchcock, and Ms Schulte is no Alfred Hitchcock.

I was prepared to give this an average score of three, but I'm knocking a point off for that cheesy self-promo. Two stars, it is.

2.5 I'm confused stars...

Apparently this is a spin-off series? When I started to realize that, I popped on GR to see if I could figure it out from reviews and/or see if the author mentioned what the mother series was. The only thing I found was "It's a spin-off from Olivia and Holden's series"... way to not be helpful. I don't know (or now trust) the author well enough to hunt down the "How it all began.." story/ies.

So, while I liked the book well enough, the holes were way too large for me to fully enjoy the tale. I have another book from this author, but I'm probably going to delete it, it'll more than likely be the same swiss cheese fest that'll leave me frustrated and confused like this book.

Read like you already knew the characters

First I want to say that this was a pretty interesting story. Short story. It is centered on a half vampire baker. Which I feel was completely explained in a different series. It was definitely written as if the reader was already in the loop.

I did like the characters they were definitely fully developed. There is a lot of questions to be answered. So the MC is still getting used to her new life as a half vampire while opening a bakery. Her carpenter is mysterious, a reporter causes problems, and a Jinn wants to have a partnership.

The author did pack a lot into this book. Yet I was still left feeling like it would have benefited from more info and been a full novel.

Maggie is a newly turned half vampire. She is opening a bakery and everything is going wrong. The only good thing is her carpenter Boone, who she met by coincidence. The truth is that he is a psychic and something told him he needed to help her. With only a few days to her Halloween opening, every bad thing is happening, and she finds out Boone is a psychic when he warns her about the reporter that is so interested in her shop and her. Will she be exposed, and what will Boone think when he finds out she is a half vampire?

I found this short read both entertaining and addicting. Maggie is such a great character and i look forward to watching her grow through out the series. I also need to know how she became a vampire exactly as the author shirts around the event but hints at it being an intriguing story! The plot is well rounded and comical when it needs to be. I seriously can not wait to read the next episode in the series!

This book was a great cozy mystery about a half vampire opening up a bakery. When a reporter witnesses something that happened in the bakery the action starts. If you enjoy cozy mysteries then add this novella to your to be read list it doesn't disappoint. This is the first in a new series and seems promising based on this quick read.

I can't give an accurate rating on the entire book... I downloaded it for free on Kindle, except it turned out to just be a 58 page teaser 🤷 Not a fan of that tactic and definitely won't purchase the full book. The 58 pages I did read were so-so anyways... though seeing after the fact that this is part of a bigger world series makes some sense.

Short book 46 pages. I couldn’t even get past 25…and that was a struggle. I’m sorry when you write a prequel to a series of books you should start off where no one knows any of the characters and introduce them. It’s like this book and many other cozy prequels I read begin like I know who the heck these people are. This is an immediate turn off and I won’t even bother reading the series.

Excellent spin off material

I was thrilled to find another spin off series--this one from the Olivia and Holden saga. Liz Schulte is right at the top of my list of favorite authors, so it's win-win. My only complaint? It's pretty short.

Adding Liz Schultze as one of my favorite authors. The book is light reading but addicting. I enjoyed the characters. The books in this series and her others will keep me entertained for quite a while. The book is a vampire romance/adventure with a good plotline and isn't inundated with sex. Just an enjoyable read.

This is the first book I've read with a vampire theme and to my surprise, I really enjoyed it. I couldn't put it down once I started it and now I find myself wanting to know more about the backstory and what will become of the main characters.

This was...eh.

I feel like some important info was missing.

I get that she can't tell people about her condition, but something about this book felt....disjointed? I don't know how to describe it.

Not one I'd read again.

The beginning of a promising new series. Maggie is half human. Half vampire. She's trying to learn how to "eat" without making any deals. Plus opening up her dream bakery. Add a nosey reporter and a mysterious carpenter. Her hands are full.

An exciting little novella about a half vampire half human woman opening a bakery to stop her boredom. But then things go crazy before the grand opening.
I definitely want to pick up the series.
