Not outstanding, but really rather interesting. I think it sucks that people have said it's "like The Da Vinci Code." For one thing, it's NOT like The Da Vinci Code. Not at all. People who think it is have no imagination whatsoever. For another thing, this was published about three or four years BEFORE The Da Vinci Code. So if anything, The Da Vinci Code is like Daughter of God.

Good quote:

"People create the god they need...God is a human creation devised for the expediency of explaining the unknown, and they change him--her--to suit their needs."

I read “Daughter of God” quite some time ago but it has remained a favorite of mine. I lost the first book half way through reading it, and I bought another copy so that I could finish it right away. It is of the same idea as “Angles and Demons” or “The Pope’s Assassins.” A story of the search of lost treasures, the greed and cruelty of those who have a personal agenda of wealth and power, and the ultimate search for questions of faith is well developed. The central theme is focused around the lost record of Sophia who is said to be the daughter of God and the female Messiah. The primary characters are Zoe and Seth Ridgeway, who were well developed and I found interesting and believable, and when approached by a very ill art dealer to return stolen Nazi art to the original owners, must follow a very dangerous and distant trail. From being held hostage to a Swiss chalet to the discussion of faith, this book will keep you in suspense and was an excellent read. It is filled with action, suspense, danger and the lure of discovering ancient artifacts and the mystery that surrounds them.

One of my favorite books! Perdue is an amazing author. After reading his book, I became obsessed with his quotes:

"whom d people worship is not nearly so important as that they worship.
believing is important, whether it's in Buddha, Christ, Muhammad,
Vishnu, or the gods that carry the sun across the sky everyday.
to think of the world's religions and faiths as a stained glass window
glowing w/ every color in the spectrum. many colors, but only one sun.
God made us all different colors and God speaks to us in many tongues.
Look at religion as a different doorway to God.
as finite creatures, we can never comprehend more than one small part
of the Infinite. so it's no wonder that different people and cultures
see just their own small true part of God." ---- by: Lewis Perdue

I keep this one on my shelf. Despite reading 3-4 books each month, I only keep a select few. The subject matter is so intriguing that I couldn't bear to part with it.

I like the writing though I think the author could be a bit more descriptive in some areas, I found my attention wandered so I may have missed some things that would have helped me love the book. I usually only read 5 chapters at a time (to stay focused, think about the material) unless I "devour" a book in one sitting so I don't think I was tired when I read it.

I recommend it for book clubs. The discussion topics will make the meeting one of the most animated and controversial ones you have ever experienced.

If you enjoyed "The DiVinci Code", this one will be right up your alley. My only wish was that I had known a little more about theology before I started the book. This is not a fluff book where you can just read quickly and understand what is going on...you need to have time to think about what you are reading.

This book was terrible. It was a fascinating premise, but the character and plot developments were completely illogical and the writing was excruciatingly poor. I left it at the beach I was so upset.

During the 4th century, while Christianity was still in its infancy, the church suppressed a secret that could have had dramatic implications for the faithful. A young girl in a sleepy village performed miracles and was regarded as another messiah. Could God really have sent more than one savior to earth? A series of clues was hidden over the centuries and have recently been rediscovered.

Enter husband and wife team Seth and Zoe Ridgeway. He, a former homicide detective turned religion and philosophy professor; she an art historian and appraiser. Long story short, they get involved in the hunt for the hidden relics that could be devastating to Catholicism. They’re up against Russian thugs, ruthless clergy, and a whole host of other villains who send them on a globe-trotting, action-packed mission to find the lost treasure.

While this book was considerably better than The Da Vinci Legacy, there were too many inconsistencies and other annoyances that were glaring. The writing was pedestrian and the dialogue was occasionally clunky. While this was written before Mr. Brown made the genre popular, it was pretty formulaic. The premise was good, some aspects of it were entertaining, but I found myself rolling my eyes too often.

The e-book is riddled with editing errors, which is distracting and annoying, although the story is fast-paced and engaging. Additionally, it is impossible to know when the story was meant to take place.

*SPOILER ALERT*

The missing painting was framed in 1937, but it is later stated that ingot under the painting hadn't been seen in 40 years - okay, so it's sometime in the 70's. Then there are all of these ex-Nazis running around getting in the way of the protagonists and the author keeps referencing 40 years after WWII - okay, so these are some really spry 60 year old guys and it's sometime in the 80's. But then Zoe steals a hard drive and references Windows 95. No, just no. There are none of Hitler's Nazi cohorts serving as bodyguards in the same universe where there is Windows 95. And the ingot hadn't been seen in 60 years. Terrible editing.

A modern thriller about a female messiah whose existence was covered up by the Catholic church, artwork stolen by Hitler's people, much blackmail and murder, and the couple that is inadvertently in the middle of it all. Some of it, as in Pope Pious XII's denial of the atrocities during the holocaust and Hitler's planned art museum to be filled with the stolen art, are true. Interesting read.

Not a bad religious thriller...suffers from too many characters expositing on history in effect filling in the missing pieces of this narrative based on the idea that the Church hid evidence of a female messiah...some very nice plotting, with a few too many coincidences. But as I said, I liked it and it is a good example of a truly addictive sub-genre.

I read this years before DaVinci Code came out and totally forgot that I did until the author, Perdue sued Dan Brown for plagarizing this book. This book is about the discovery of a female messiah and the church's attempts to cover it up. Not nearly as good but an ok book on it's own merits.

Mirip2 kayak karangannya Dan Brown.

Good story line/plot, which allowed the author to present some interesting thoughts on religion in general and the role of the Catholic Church through history.

One piece of dialog I really appreciated :"Faith sustains us, religion divides us."

The writing style was a bit annoying, with too many details that added nothing to the base story.

Overall, I found it an enjoyable read, but probably won't be hunting down any other works by the author.

Leelo bajo tu propio riesgo.

I was not excited at all by this book. At times it takes a few chapters to get wrapped up in the authors world but sadly that never happened for me while reading Daughter of God.
Most recently I purchased The Da Vinci Code and I was plesantly surprised. Similar subject matter but gripping from the first page to the last. I would suggest purchasing Dan Brown's TDVC over Lewis Perdue's DOG.

After an intriguing and insightful set up religious history, storyline and main characters, the book quickly lost its luster. Ridiculous plot changes, character inconsistencies, and a very quirky digital publication that continually left out punctuation and dropped words constantly, I found myself ironically praying for strength to just get through it.

Interesting premise and a quick read, combined my interest in art, WWII, and the sins of the Catholic Church into a pretty good novel except for

LITERALLY HUNDREDS of grammatical and spelling errors in the ebook…who edits these things.

AND, the degeneration of the lead characters into thinking some benevolent deity is actually watching and listening to them

I got two chapters in, and the numerous errors in punctuation had me itching to pull out a virtual red pen and mark this up. This is either the sloppiest proofreading imaginable, or just poorly scanned to digital format without a single readthrough. Either way, I just can't read an entire novel like this.

A really thought provoking book, with many of the religious themes being very relevant to today’s America, even though it was published 25 years ago. It’s also a great choice for anyone who likes Dan Brown’s novels.

Me gusto mucho.
