Once Upon a Gorjuss Time: Six Classic Tales to Dream By

Rate this book
On a cold, gloomy day, Gorjuss stays warm and cozy inside with a big book of fairy tales, musing about all kinds of adventures.

There may be a storm outside, but inside her attic Gorjuss is tucked up with a cup of hot tea and a tome of favorite stories. Musing on the tales she’s reading, Gorjuss spends the day quietly contemplating the themes of “The Little Mermaid,” “Thumbelina,” “Rapunzel,” and more. A beautifully bound volume with gilded pages, this collection is the perfect gift for fans of Gorjuss and fairy tales alike, with a ribbon place marker that invites readers to dip in and out of the magical stories again and again.

"A good story, like love, can transform you."

- Little Red -
Oh, what a wonderful story, and so deliciously frightening.
In this world of varied dangers, we are all Little Reds, and we are wise to beware ...

- The Little Mermaid -
Sorrow and pain are truly horrible, but they reveal depths inside us that we might not have seem before.

- Snow White -
What a terrific tale, and I do love happy endings.
This story has such truth in it, for a beautiful face might be a wonderful gift, but real beauty comes from within.

- Alice -
Wonderland was just a dream.
I suppose that should come as no surprise: dreams are the seeds for all things wonderful!

- Thumbelina -
No matter my size, no matter my past, I have the power to choose my own future.
She teaches us to take life one small step at a time.

- Rapunzel -
Rapunzel and the prince were soon married, and they lived happily ever after.

"The fairy tales are done, but the dreams are only beginning."

Beautiful artwork but the classic stories are not suitable for children. Why do such a beautiful book with words that will frighten or saddened kids? Very disappointing! It would have been better to adapt the stories for all to enjoy.

And the cool thing about this is that I got the gorjuss bookmark in the UK with the same drawing as the first page in 2012 and got the book in 2017 in Aus (feels weird to write that 2️⃣0️⃣1️⃣7️⃣)

I have loved Gorjuss for years, and have mostly got little figurines and notebooks, but did not know that this existed until I got it for my birthday.

This is a beautiful little book, with gold edged pages, a beautiful spine, and “gorjuss” end papers. There are six stories inside, with pictures scattered liberally throughout.

The stories include Little Red Riding Hood, The Little Mermaid, Snow White, Alice In Wonderland, Thumbelina and Rapunzel. Each story is a few pages long, so ideal for a bedtime story and altogether, is just over 100 pages.

If you’re expecting the Disney versions, I warn you now, this is not the heavily sanitized versions that your children know and love. These are abridged versions of your Hans Christian Anderson/Brothers Grimm/Lewis Carroll stories, that I read as a child (Thumbelina strangely, is the only one that I don’t remember.)

These are abridged, in the sense that they are relatively wide spaced print, with pictures scattered, to make it easy for you to read to your children, or for children to read themselves - Amazon recommends 8+. Also, Alice In Wonderland is cut down to a mere 16 pages, so it’s really only a bare bones version.

If you’re looking for a beautiful hardback copy to read to your children, I would highly recommend this. If you’d rather no child of yours ever get their grubby little fingers all over it, then read it to yourself, and put it somewhere safe - I can recommend the very top shelf. I quite enjoyed re-reading all these stories I loved as a child, and must dig out my own copies again sometime soon.

Once Upon a Gorjuss Time is a yet another marketing ploy disguised as a book. Featuring the distinctive Gorjuss-style artwork by Santoro, this collection of fairy tales does not add anything new or particularly interesting to the genre. Readers will find that they already know these versions of Snow White, the Little Mermaid, Rapunzel, and others. The artwork, however, is beautiful, and while the tales are dutifully told, the foil leaf on the cover and gilded pages make this an especially handsome volume to have in the collection. Purchase if patrons have a strong interest in Gorjuss designs and there is room for another fairy tale compilation on the shelves.

I read this book in French, so I assume there might be differences with the translation, but I absolutely loved this book!💫

I've always been a massive fan of Santoro Gorjuss! My Santoro collection is actually ridiculous😂🤭 The fact they have a magical book is even better😍 The fairy tales were cute, and nicely written! Not to mention the BEAUTIFUL! and magical illustrations😍 The illustrations made the book even more special!❤ The cover of this book is also stunning?! & the edges are glittery gold😍😍

Picking this up expecting for some dark and twisted classic tale. But disappointingly only the first and last stories are considered to the extend of meeting the passing level. The cover itself and illustration is beautifully made but the stories itself sat inappropriately in the middle of child-friendly and adult tale.

The Gorjuss artwork of Suzanne Woolcott is showcased in this collection of familiar fairy tales. The tales themselves are nice, though nothing new or spectacular. They keep to the traditional stories so the grandmother and Little Red are eaten by the wolf, and the mermaid turns to sea foam, etc. This might disturb younger readers. If you are a fan of the Gorjuss girls, you will definitely like this book.
