For Peeps sake! They're cute. They're tasty. And for the first time ever, PEEPS—the No. 1 selling non-chocolate Easter candy—take center stage in fun crafts and sweet treats for the entire family. Both seasonal savorers and devoted PEEPS fans (who have created over 200 dedicated fan Web sites) will delight in these 24 projects, surprisingly suited for any time of the year. Frosty Peepsicles refresh on a hot summer day; the Peeps Holiday Wreath brightens up a winter doorway; and the Peepi ata enlivens any fiesta. Cheerful, mouthwatering photographs inspire while simple step-by-step instructions explain the how-to. Games, decorations, and desserts never looked so adorably edible!
A silly little book of recipes and crafts using peeps candies. Colorful illustrations with photographs of the cakes, hot cholate, s’mores, crepes, “peepsicles”, Peepinata, tote bag, checkers, wedding cake topper, centerpiece etc. Also includes some trivia facts about peeps and their history.
Sometimes I'll post links to really useful government web sites with the notation "Your tax dollars at work." I would just like to say that when I see books like this available at my public library, I think, "My tax dollars at PLAY!" and while I'm aware some would see buying books like this as a waste of money, I must demur. Having a book like this is a community service for the harried parent who needs something to send to school tomorrow, the cooking-impaired single who wants whimsical date snacks, or someone who just needs to smile a bit. I would feel guilty buying a copy of this for myself, but I'm happy the library paid for me to share it with all my neighbors.
This compact little book has a range of recipes from those requiring a double-boiler and actual cooking skills to the absurdly and delightfully simple. Also, if you are a Peeps freak, you will find trivia about Peeps history, Peeps sales figures and much more.
And if anyone ever wants to give me a lei made of Peeps, l won't object. Just please don't use glue or shellac on it; I WILL want to eat it.
Okay, the only reason I didn't assign 5 stars to this fun tome is that the idea that anyone would actually eat a Peep is just ridiculous. It's like those circus peanuts--who eats them? The photos are the best--there's even glitter across the cover. Mai-Tai Peeps, anyone?
I checked this out for ideas for Peeps other than Peep sushi. The ideas in the book are quite fun and kitschy, definitely an entertaining, though short, read. However, Peep sushi remains my favorite Peep recipe!
I cannot believe that there are over 200 websites dedicated to this candy. Also, some of the crafts were a bit over the top. I cannot actually believe that someone thought they were a good idea.
