**First in a thrilling, new romantic suspense series by USA TODAY bestselling author Misty Evans! **Other books in the series include FATAL HONOR and FATAL COURAGE.
She’s an investigative reporter who lives to uncover the truth.
Feisty television host Savanna Bunkett exposes government cover-ups on her award-winning show, The Bunk Stops Here. When she digs into a rumor about a top-secret government project that's producing “super soldiers” for the president, she suddenly finds herself on an assassin’s hit list.
He's the man who knows the truth.
Navy SEAL Lieutenant Trace Hunter is the only soldier to survive Project 24. After refusing a direct order from the president, he was branded a traitor, and his career imploded after the sexy reporter turned him into a national headline. He now works undercover for Shadow Force International, a secret group of former SEALs helping those who have nowhere else to turn, using his enhanced skills to fight for justice and protect the innocent. His first assignment? Protect Savanna from the one man who wants them both dead—the president.
One wrong move and they’ll be silenced forever.
Helping Savanna is the last thing Trace wants to do, but her unwavering determination to expose the president's dark truth matches his own. She's his one chance to set the record straight, and he’s her only chance at survival. When their mutual enemy closes in, can they put the past behind them and trust each other? Even if it means losing their hearts in the process? Or will secrets, lies, and forbidden passions cost them everything?
USA TODAY Bestselling Author Misty Evans is celebrating her 100th published novel in 2025. She loves writing urban fantasy, paranormal romance, and mystery/suspense. Under her pen name, Nyx Halliwell, she also writes supernatural cozy mysteries.
When not reading or writing (which is most of the time), she enjoys music, movies, and hanging out with her husband, twin sons, and three spoiled rescue dogs. She’s a crafter at heart and has far too many projects to finish.
TV journalist Savanna Bunkett destroyed Navy SEAL hero Trace Hunter's career after airing an investigative report that exposed him as a traitor. He spent 18-months in prison for crimes he didn't commit and was suddenly released, finding himself working for Shadow Force International and assigned as a bodyguard to Savanna. She's now become the target of the president because of her current research that threatens his office. Trace looks nothing like the man in the photos from two years ago and she doesn't recognize her bodyguard, who has every reason to despise her.
This story rocked from the opening chapters and never really let go. It's different from the typical stories about military operatives in that Trace was one of those who did "black op" missions, the kind that give you pause. It's sanctioned espionage at its worst and he's plenty scarred. Savanna's no slouch either and I liked her a lot. She's got great instincts but never replaced Trace's with her own.
As this is written in 2016, it also includes all the current technology we know about and then some. Whether it's real or not isn't the issue as it just raises the cool factor to a pretty high level (think Jason Bourne) and all seemed plausible. You always know who the main antagonist is but not everyone who's under his thumb or the true nature of what he's hiding. It was revealed sparingly, just enough at a time to keep me in the story.
This was a fun debut of the series with lots of suspense, intrigue and a pretty good romance. I like these super skilled operatives who are smart, highly trained and take no prisoners. And, one of the principal characters who is the force behind the agency happens to be a woman, a refreshing difference. Can't wait for the next story.

Second time is the charm. This is a lesson on giving an author a second chance. Last year I read a book by Misty Evans and gave it two stars, less for writing style, and more for what I perceived as unbelievable plot points. I'm glad I had the opportunity to read Fatal Truth because this author comes roaring back with an entertaining romantic suspense read. I enjoyed Fatal Truth in the same way I would enjoy a Tom Clancy movie. There is plenty of drama; a mysterious, clandestine agency; a government conspiracy; and lots of action.
Trace Hunter is arranged to be released from a high security prison and picked up by Rock Star Security, the legitimate division of Shadow Force International. Shadow Force is a covert, special ops groups dedicated to helping those who have nowhere else to turn. If The Equalizer had a supporting cast, Shadow Force would be it. He is assigned to guard the very reporter who revealed his identity and accused him of being an enemy of the state.
Savanna Bunkett is the news reporter dedicated to uncovering the many faces of corruption in the government and corporations. She takes pride in exposing villains and standing up for the little guy. Unfortunately, one of her stories will expose the President's involvement in an illegal plan to create a private army of enhanced soldiers. Now the President' is targeting her to shut her down.
For me, one of the highlights of this story is Savannah Bunkett. Savannah is not a kick-ass heroine. She has no special physical skills and she's not a crack shot. But she is spunky, smart, and loyal to a fault. Her tenacious desire to find and protect her sister, despite the President's attempts to the contrary, makes her a strong character. She is a good complement to Trace, who is an enhance soldier and former assassin. Believing he was working for what was morally right under the direction of the President, he in conflicted about this job when his boss, POTUS, turns out to be a corrupt ego-maniac. She is a nice foil with her friendly demeanor and open spirit to his closed personality and brooding looks. I enjoyed their interaction and the development of their relationship.
IN A NUTSHELL: A robust story with an appealing couple, Fatal Truth is a fine start to a new series.

This book has it all. Drama, suspense, murder, power, love and a lot of hotness. Right off the bat we are introduced to the male lead in the book Lieutenant Trace Hunter. The best part of all of this is I could tell right off the bat that he was going to be the hot alpha lead, and boy was I right. Trace does not disappoint. Tall, dark and sexy as ever we are thrown right into his story which starts at prison. Definition of bad boy right? Not soon after we are introduced to Savanna the female lead of our story. Their chemistry is off the charts from their first time they meet. I was worried when I started to get into the book because the two main characters are well written and the chemistry is off of the charts but they are thrown together because of a danger in Savanna’s life and what she doesn’t realize is that she is the reason that Trace was in jail in the first place. I wanted so bad to see them together and be in a relationship but as we all know you can’t start a relationship built on lies.
I found the story to be very detailed oriented but not in the scenic sense. I found that instead of being descriptive in the surroundings of the characters she was much more detailed with the background. This really let me as the reader feel like I was part of their lives. In order to be able to pull the reader into a story, I believe that the author really has to make them connect with the characters no matter how minor the character and without a doubt Misty Evans has been able to do that.
This isn’t your plain old romance novel. Fatal Truth is filled with drama and suspense. The way the twists and turns were worked into the book was clean and just the right amount. The entire flow of the book was smooth and never left me wanting for more at any point.
When it was all said and done I could not imagine changing anything about this book. I, without hesitation, give this book a 5 Rose rating. I will be adding the next book in the series, Fatal Honor which is due out in 2016 to my To Be Read list.
Favorite Quote: “I want you. If you want me, too then let’s call it even. We might be bad for each other as partners in a relationship, but I bet we’ll rock this house to its foundation with a bout of casual sex. What’s wrong about that?”
Misty Evans has another outstanding set of characters with the Shadow Force International series. Behind the walls of Rock Star Security Services Emit Petit has developed SFI to help people who have no where else to turn. In the first book of the series, Fatal Truth, Trace Hunter has been imprisoned for 18 months falsely accused of treason by the one man from whom he can not protect himself, the President of the United States. When he is released from prison without the knowledge of the justice system his choice is to work for Petit or manage on his own with no money, no other resources and a price on his head. The elements of this complex tale will have you at the edge of your seat and, although sex is not a major part of the action, the zing and sizzle between Trace and his first client heat up the pages as much as the action around them. These two authors know how to write a steamy suspense novel and make us fall in love with the main characters. They also do an outstanding job in creating secondary characters that we can relate to or hate.
Fatal Truth is a fantastic start to this new series by Misty Evans. Conspiracies, action, romance, kickass women, sexy guys, spies, snipers, this book has it all! If you like romantic suspense, you seriously have to give this series a try. You will love it.
Fatal Truth by Misty Evans was a wild, exciting read! Unique, unpredictable, suspenseful, Fatal Truth has a feel of believability to it that makes it even more fascinating.
Misty captured me and pulled me into an adventure with two strong main characters. With just enough romance and relationship intrigue, Savanna and Trace have a linked past that will impact their future...if they survive.
I loved the suspenseful plot of Fatal Truth because it was unexpected, thrilling, and Misty made it feel so real with smoothly flowing writing. Watching the relationship between Savanna and Trace evolve was an important element to the plot, and it blended perfectly with the predominantly suspenseful mystery.
Misty kept me on edge wondering what would happen and what could happen. I really enjoyed this book because it was so different and how the plot could unravel was so uncertain that I was pulled in quickly and hooked.
Fatal Truth is a powerful romantic suspense that I'd highly recommend. You won't be disappointed!!
I loved this book! The author has mastered the genre of romantic suspense and proves this once more in this start to a new series. In Fatal Truth, an investigative reporter torpedoes a Navy SEAL's career by airing an expose' accusing him of extreme crimes. This expose' is so successful that he lands in solitary confinement in a federal prison.....until he's not.
The reporter's sister disappears and then the reporter starts getting threats. The combination leads her to seek the assistance of Rock Star Security, where she is assigned to their newest operative. As they search for her sister, he uses all of his skills to keep her safe, but hides a very important secret from her.
If you enjoy romantic suspense, you will LOVE this book. I'm already looking forward to the next book in the series!
Another fabulous romantic suspense from Misty Evans! Fast moving and entertaining, with just enough romance and tension thrown in to keep me glued to the pages, Fatal Truth was a great start to a new series.
Savannah ended up being an awesome heroine. I was a bit unsure of her at first, but as her character was developed and revealed throughout the book she really had everything I love in my heroines – she was strong, smart, capable, and knew when she needed to ask for help. Yet she also didn’t have a problem standing up for herself or letting her thoughts and opinions be heard – especially when it came to Trace. Trace has learned to keep everything under control, especially his emotions. Unfortunately when it comes to Savannah she always seems to get him a little bit crazy. And even though I was a bit frustrated that he didn’t man up and let Savannah know who he was, knowing his past made me a little more forgiving towards him. Together these two had some serious tension going on. And let’s just say at one point the term “hot yoga” had more to do with the heat between these two than the yoga challenge that they had going on.
I loved the secondary characters in the book and each and every one of them added something to the story. I really loved seeing Cal, Beatrice, and Emit again – Beatrice was one of my favorite characters from the SCVC series and I love that I’ll get to see a bit more of her in this new spin-off series.
If you’re looking for a great romantic suspense then look no further. Fatal Truth offers up a large dose of conspiracy, intrigue, and action, with a nice side of romance and shouldn’t be missed.

Great New Series! This is a great book; this is the first book in the Shadow Force International series by Misty Evans. Savanna Bunkett is a feisty television host on the award-winning show, The Bunk Stops Here. Her show exposes government cover-ups. When she starts digging up a story about a top secret government project that is producing “super soldiers” for the president, she finds herself on a hit list. Trace Hunter is a Lieutenant with the Navy Seals and he knows all about the “super soldiers” because he is the only soldier to survive Project 24. He now works for an undercover secret group of former Seals to help people who have nowhere else to turn. His new assignment is to protect Savannah. If you are looking for a great romance that has it all, romance, mystery, suspense and sexy Seals, then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this great new series. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, pain, and heartbreak.
This is Savanna and Trace’s story. Savanna spends her time exposes government cover-ups. While working on investigating a new cover-up she finds herself on a hit list. Someone does not want these secrets out. Trace was exposed and labeled a traitor but now works on protecting people. With people wanting them both dead will he be able to protect Savanna? Can they work together to out run the danger but still bring down the bad guys? Can they uncover the truths from all the lies and out the person that is after them both before they both end up dead?
I loved these characters and also the side characters. I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
Trace was falsely accused of treason and thrown into prison. All because he wouldn't obey a direct order from the President. Savanna, a crusading reporter, is the person who broke the story from a file she was given by her sister, Parker. Now Trace has escaped from prison, Parker is missing and Savanna is in big trouble. She is going to bring out the truth of one of the president's buddies and the president is going to stop her, no matter what he has to do. Trace is now Savanna's bodyguard and she doesn't know his true name. How will she react when she finds out who Trace really is and will he still be able to protect her from the president? Trace also has information that can put the president in prison, but can he use it without getting people killed?
A great start to the Shadow Force International series by Misty Evans. Savanna is a tough investigative reporter and Trace is a tough Navy Seal. Together they'll fight to bring down corruption at the highest level. Lots of action, deceit, and romance that will keep you turning the pages. I'm looking forward to more in this series.
What happens when you defy orders from the most powerful man in the United States? Well, when you're Trace Hunter you end up in prison, spending most of your days in solitary confinement because the other inmates have decided you're the one they need to take down. See, Trace has a certain set of skills...yes, I channeled Liam Neeson from Taken. It fits. After 18 months of being wrongly incarcerated, Trace is given a get out of jail free card. He keeps waiting for a bullet to hit him or someone to laugh and say he's being punked. But, this is real, he's being given a second chance and he's taking it.
Emit Petit and Callan and Beatrice Reese are part of Rock Star Security, which also houses Shadow Force International. *Okay, I admit that I now have the Nickelback lyric "I wanna be a rock star" floating through my head. LOL* Beatrice has an uncanny ability to know which men will be perfect for this company, and when she's given a little nudge from a trusted former cloak and dagger type guy, she takes a chance on Trace.
There's a catch. Oh come on people, of course there's a catch. LOL Trace, aka Coldplay (you didn't see that coming with Rock Star Security? There's also Poison, Creed, and Megadeath, etc. -- although it should be spelled Megadeth.) has his first assignment, protecting Savanna Jeffries-Bunkett, the woman responsible for broadcasting the exposé that labeled him as a traitor. Although in her defense, she was handed the information from a reliable, or so she thought, source and on her investigative reporting show, The Bunk Stops Here (love that name) proceeded to annihilate everything Trace had ever worked for.
After learning the reliable source, the president, isn't so reliable, she knows she messed up but doesn't know how to fix it or how to keep herself safe as the president is now closely watching her every move. Not to mention, her sister, Parker, who works for the president, has been out of contact for longer than usual. So Savanna hires a bodyguard and thus Coldplay is in her life. *She has this "I know him from somewhere" feeling, but can't place it. Trace, on the other hand, knows immediately who she is and wants a reassignment. But something keeps holding him back from requesting it. Yeah, Savanna gets to him...in more ways than one. Trace and Savanna grow closer every day and Savanna sees his integrity and dedication as he saves her life more than once.
As Trace and Savanna spend all their time together, Trace begins to see the true Savanna and realizes he may have judged her wrong. While she did run the life altering story on him, he's now wondering if she was set up and had no choice. Savanna can't help but be drawn to Trace, and eventually tells Trace things she's never told anyone before, not even her sister. See Savanna has been hiding a secret for a long time, per her Mother's directive, and it eats her up a little more each day. Now if only she could get Trace to open up the same way. You know what they say about be careful what you wish for? Well it's a cliche for a reason.
After they spend a very hot and amazing night together, the president gleefully spills the beans to Savanna about Trace's identity. Oh man, the pain. You can feel her pain. Trace then comes clean, something he knew he should've done before, yet he didn't want to risk losing Savanna, which of course happened anyway. He tells her about being Patient 13 in a drug study through the military, how unbeknownst to him at the time, the president had him taking out other patients from the study, and the one that cost Trace everything was refusing to kill a pregnant woman. Thankfully, Trace pieced everything together and realized she wasn't who the president said she was. Instead she was a scandal waiting to happen and Trace was the means to fix that.
Now Trace is booted from Savanna's security detail, though he refuses to leave her completely, and Savanna is making a deal with the president to give him a file he desperately needs to save his butt, in exchange for her sister, supposedly his hostage. But Savanna being Savanna, can't let him get away with what he's done and though Trace hurt her, she still loves him and needs to clear his name and give him his life back.
Of course, that's not so easy to do. Savanna is now in a very dangerous, he's going to kill her, type of situation. Will Trace save her in time? Where's Parker at? What exactly is Parker's job? How does Parker know of Trace, besides what Savanna revealed on television? (Psst...in case that sentence worried you, no, Trace and Parker have never actually met until this moment.) Will the world learn the truth about Trace and the president? Will Savanna forgive Trace? Will they get their HEA? Will Trace, unable to communicate how he feels, show her instead by tracking down the secret that still haunts her? Will Savanna understand what his actions mean?
I highly recommend this book and can't wait for the second in the series. While I didn't know before reading that this seems to be a spinoff of a previous series, I wasn't at all lost or feeling like I missed anything. I will, however, go back and read those books as I really liked Misty's work in this one. I feel everything was woven together perfectly in this story and all the connections had a six degrees of Kevin Bacon feel to it. It illustrated how sometimes it truly is a small world after all and that some people are meant to be a part of your life and when given the chance, you need to take the risk for the possibility of happiness. I can't wait to see what happens in book two.
**I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.**
Secret ops, political conspiracies, betrayal, and romance...phew this book was full of secrets and action and romance. I liked the play on the super soldier idea and news as the voice of the people. The power displayed about the executive branch was a fun albeit disturbing twist to the story. Good read and great characters!
Fatal Truth is the first book in the spin-off series to Ms. Evans' Deadly SCVC Taskforce series, and it's a doozy! Savanna and Trace share a common enemy--and unfortunately for them, it just happens to be a guy with seemingly unlimited resources--the most powerful man in the world, the president of the United States.
I loved watching Savanna and Trace grow closer (totally against Trace's will--the poor guy was so determined to hate her for being the reason he'd been languishing in prison yet was totallt committed to fulfilling his duties to Rock Star Security, which meant keeping Van safe) all the while they were desperately trying to find Van's sister and find a way to bring the president down. Ms. Evans kept the tension taut throughout the book; the parts where Van and Trace just missed connecting with Van's sister Parker were particularly stressful!
Throughout the book I was anxious for Trace to finally come clean and reveal to Van who he really was, but at the same time I totally understood why he was so hesitant to. Naturally you know it's all going to bite him in the butt at some point, and you're just keeping your fingers crossed that he'll be able to emerge from the fallout on the other side and somehow convince Van to not hate him forever. (Warning: when he finally does manage to work up to an apology, it's a doozy! ;) )
It was darn near impossibly to put down Fatal Truth once the story really got started. I can't wait to read more from this series--bring it on, Ms. Evans! :)
Rating: 4 stars / A-

This is the first book in the new Shadow Force International series by Misty Evans. I loved this book and read it in one day. The characters are very well developed and settings well described and the story line believable. Savannah is an investigative reporter that doesn't back down for anyone not even the president. This time Savannah needs help though because her sister Parker who works for the president has gone missing and with the president threatening her she decides to follow a lead to Rock Star Security where she ends up hiring them for protection and that comes with a body guard named Coldplay. Savannah once did a piece on a Navy Seal named Trace Hunter which ended up being used to send Trace to prison. Trace was recently helped to escape prison and was hired by Rock Star Security with the hope that they can help him clear his name. Rock Star Security hires former Navy Seals and other special forces veterans, and they knew that the charges brought against Trace were false. Trace has a new name "Coldplay" and now he has been assigned to help Savannah, the very woman who ended his career and was the reason he was thrown in to prison. Trace has his secrets just as Savannah has hers. Will their secrets destroy them or save them? This one will keep you on the edge with all of the twists and turns. I loved the chemistry between Trace and Savannah. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
I was given an advanced readers copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Fatal Truth is the first book in Misty Evans’ Shadow Force International Series. From the opening pages, I was glued to Savanna Bunkett and her The Bunk Stops here television show. (I loved the character’s name and the name of her TV show.) From the outset Ms. Evans introduces the intrigue as the hero, Trace Hunter’s escapes from prison and the heroine, Savanna’s being threatened by the President of the United States. In addition to dealing with the President, Savanna’s sister is also missing.
Ms. Evans takes us on a ride as we see Trace trying to deal with his past as a Navy SEAL and his involvement in a secret project that involved Savanna’s sister. Savanna’s concerned with finding her sister and living another day. She also wants to bring the President of the United States down in the process.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Fatal Truth and I look forward to the next book in the series. Ms. Evans has mastered the romantic suspense genre. I highly recommend anything that she has written. I’d like to disclose that I received a copy of Fatal Truth in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Savanna is a well known journalist who specializes in exposing government cover-ups. She won't stop even when she's threatened by the President of the United States. She needs protection. She goes to Shadow Force International for help. They are the best and they have a plan. They break Navy Seal Trace Hunter out of solitary and make him Savanna's bodyguard. He hides his identity. After all she incorrectly exposed him as a traitor. He was set up by the President and she reported the story. Can he save her and find her sister? I liked Savanna. She is intelligent and fearless. She will go to any length to find the truth even though assassins are stalking her. She won't be blackmailed and she'll admit her mistakes. Travis aka Coldplay will protect her with his life. He's attracted to her but he's afraid to reveal his past. His conflicting emotions make for powerful reading. I could put down this book. The storyline is a potent mix of passion and political intrigue. Misty Evans dis a wonderful job. She left me wanting more.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest and unscripted review.
Fatal Truth by Misty Evans is the smokin’ hot first book in her new Shadow Force International series, and she knocks it out of the park with this one. Savanna Bunkett is in danger from the most powerful man in the world – the President of the United States. Her sister, Parker, is missing. And things are not always what they seem….
Trace Hunter, or Coldplay, is a bodyguard, though he has his own secrets. He is tasked with protecting Savanna and trying to find her sister. However, he and Savanna have their own secret connection which complicates things.
Fatal Truth was so good. SO good. It has everything ~ spies, assassins, danger, action, and hot smexy tension. I loved every minute of this book. There were some parts that were so angsty I wasn’t sure I could take it but I had to keep reading. I spent a couple of nights up too late because I really wanted to finish Fatal Truth by Misty Evans. It’s always the sign of a good book when a mom is willing to sacrifice sleep.
I am a big fan of romantic suspense novels, therefore, I was excited when Misty Evans not only had a new release, but was launching a new series. Ms. Evans is one of my favorite authors because she consistently weaves a story that has strong characters, a strong and believable plot with plenty of twists and turns, and action thrown in with a little romance. I was hooked from the very beginning when the former Navy SEAL was secretly released from prison and thrust into the role of bodyguard for the very woman who put him in jail. The story flowed so well that I was glued to it from the first page to the very end because I had to find out what was going to happen next. Fatal Truth is the first book in Misty Evans’ new Shadow Force International Series and I can’t wait for the next one. Don’t miss out on this new series, and when you finish this book, check out Ms. Evans’ other novels.
*** I received an advanced copy in exchange for a review that is my own***
Phenomenal! The book had me hooked right from the start. I kind of figured things were going to be interesting when right at the beginning, there was a formal Navy SEAL being secretly escorted out of prison in just his underwear. It was very cool to see Trace have to protect the woman that put him in jail. The secrets in this story were amazing, and wouldn't let me walk away. I really felt like I would miss something important if I didn't keep reading. When I did finish it, the thrilling plot, mystery, and action left me reeling. I loved it! If you are looking for a great suspense with strong emotions and non-stop excitement, step into the world of the Shadow Force International. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
Wowser! When a book practically starts with the hunk standing on a road in his briefs! You know that you’re in for a wild suspense ride. Fatal Truth does not disappoint in delivering its title. From the President down, no one is safe from Savanna reporting the truth. And that’s where the suspense action begins and doesn’t stop until the end – someone doesn’t want Savanna to tell the truth. And just her luck, the hunky Trace that gets to keep her safe is the same one that she reported the truth about, the one that she finds oh so tempting, the one that isn’t really happy to be saving her. Savanna and Trace just have to survive each other long enough for the real truth to be reported and without combusting.
Amazing, amazing, amazing. This story was a perfect collaboration of mystery, romance, suspense and action. The rate at which I read this book showed me how much it was everything and more! Fatal Truth follows Savannah, investigative television host, and her route from famed Television host to woman on the run. Savannah crosses paths with Trace, the remaining survivor of a secret government project. Together they can either go down or expose the truth. They risk more than their lives throughout their journey, but also their hearts. I received this story for a fair and honest review and boy! I am glad I did. If you are looking for a story that has it all, you've found it!
T.v. host Savanna exposes government cover ups on her show. Trace Hunter, an ex Seal, learnt this first hand when he's labeled a traitor and imprisoned after she exposes him. Eighteen months on he's free and she needs his help to find her missing sister. From the first pages there were a lot of unlikely scenarios, which continued throughout the book. I didn't feel any real connection between the main leads but it was still almost insta-love and predictable. Not edge of your seat stuff and disappointed.
Fatal Truth is the first in an exciting new series. Action, adventure and romance all in equal measure Fatal Truth mixes just enough reality into the story to make it believable. The characters are strong and likeable. The bad guys make you want to scream and shout. Fatal Truth is a well written, fast paced romantic suspense that will keep you up past your bedtime. I can’t wait for the next adventure. Complimentary copy provided by author/publisher for an honest review.
Intriguing, riveting, with many pieces of the puzzle to be put together that kept me going for half the night and the day after. Pulling together a slew of conspiracy theories with loads of panache, 'Fatal Truth' does get you to suspend your disbelief with generally likeable characters, even if the heroine teetered on the edge a little on being TSTL and the villain too much of a cackling, moustachioed caricature on pirate seas.
This book left me speechless! The story line is full of suspense, sexual attraction, regrets and secrets. The characters are unique and intense but have such remarkable chemistry. A wonderful start to an awesome series. Do not miss out on this book!
I cry uncle. This book is doing nothing for me. Every time I pick it up, I find my mind wandering. After the initial setup, nothing much happens. There is a whole lot of details about how our hero, Trace is going about his duties that are not remotely like anything anyone would actually be able to do, so I had no idea why the author felt the need to keep yammering on and on about it The romantic leads have negative chemistry, and their interactions are rushed and cringe inducing. On the plus side the writing and editing are decent and the author is good at characterization.
It should be noted that this reads almost like an alternative reality. In this version of America, there are so very many highly trained covert agents that have inexplicable turned traitor that they need an entire secret prison for them. Then there is the evil POTUS who bizarrely roams around on his own without a Secret Service advance team and protection detail. Our 28 year old heroine has a news show whose nightly rating are roughly double that of the all time highest rated cable show in our space-time continuum. And oh she went to the Olympics on the Gymnastics team, because of course she did. Meanwhile the guy in charge of her security detail, by which I mean, the only guy on her security detail was a SEAL and personal assassin to the president. And I haven't even touched on the crazy next level magical software that can delete video instantly from every social media platform in the world as well as everyone's phone.
To be clear I didn't hate this book because of the eye roll details. It was just really boring. At least it was free.
This is the 1st book in the series. The first book I’m reading by this author. I would recommend reading Southern California Violent Crimes Taskforce (SCVC) series first to understand some of the references and connections among the team.
The heroine is determined and stubborn person who wants to do the right thing and is using her TV show and skills as a journalist to expose what she thinks is the right thing. However, now someone wants to keep her quiet – permanently. She’s told by her sister if something happens to contact a bodyguard company which is exactly what’s she’s done, but maybe this was a mistake?
Our hero has been wronged so many times by people he trusted he doesn’t trust himself any longer. However, the people who helped him get out of jail make him feel like they are the only ones he should trust because why would anyone to this of someone they haven’t met? However, when they want him to bodyguard our heroine, can he do it without walking away?
The plot is good and exciting. It keeps you reading and you connect with the heroine and hero. You can tell they are strong, but they are just as weak as each of us. This is what keeps you turning the pages and reading along.
This is the first from this series, and I can’t wait for more.
