I live in one of the most beautiful places in Florida, Jupiter, with my wife, two kids and our golden retriever, Vincent. I've been a full time author for the last 15 years and I wouldn't trade it against anything in the world!
My father was a journalist and wrote about some of the worst crimes you could ever imagine, and that's where my big interest from serial killers and other horrible crimes comes from. Just to hear my father talk about the evil acts of Ted Bundy as we were out fishing as a kid are some of my best memories.
This is a book about an Australian serial killer from the late 1950's and early 1960's who killed people in a bunch of different ways in the Perth area. He brought a great sense of fear to the area and changed the way people felt about leaving their homes and cars unlocked forever after. An easy read and interesting case.
I received a mobi.File copy of this book through a LibraryThing giveaway and the following is my honest opinion. In this outing the author, Jack Rosewood, takes us to the land down under and to the sadistic mind of Eric Edgar Cooke , otherwise known as “The Night Caller.” Like most serial killers Cooke we can his depraved mindset to an abusive childhood, and in Cooke’s case his facial deformity which couldn’t be hidden and his speech impediment aided in the formation of his true Jekyll and Hyde personality. While during the day the Jekyll half of his personality was prominent, the night allowed Mr. Hyde to take over. None of his co-workers or even the police never could associate Cooke to any of the murders and hit-and-run killings taking place around them. In fact, the police even had empathy for him and even called him “Cookie.” As in the rest of his books Mr. Rosewood makes sure he discussed his early childhood, abusive from his parents and the torment he received from his classmates at school. Cooke’s shrewdness made sure he didn’t fall into any recognizable pattern; his victims in their sex, age and manner in which they died had always been in random. While Cooke had been forced to take menial jobs and usually wound up injuring himself; he even had stints in the military but wound being dismissed when his criminal past caught up with him. With a wife and seven children to take care of Eric began his spree of burglaries which eventually led to down the path to murders. To round out his book the author has made sure to give a listing of some of his victims and ending by writing about the mistake which, as with all serial killers, eventually led to his being caught, his trial and execution. In the end readers are also given information about survivors of his attacks and other factors connected to Cooke’s rain of terror and the effect it had on the City of Perth. The book contains several bonuses including a brief discussion regarding the psyche of serial killers and a link for a FREE e-book copy of another book in his series. For another enlightening book about serial killers I’m giving this one 5 STARS.
I really enjoyed this book, and was left with feelings of sadness for the victims and their families, but also the killer as well. Once you read the book, you will understand.
Perth, Australia. The life/times of the serial killer; Eric Edgar Cooke (hare lip, Permanent Military Forces) aka Nedlands Monster, aka Night Caller, aka Cookie. Once again you need to start putting works cited or Appendix in your books.
Warning: This book contains extremely graphic adult content, violence, or expletive language &/or uncensored sexually explicit material which is only suitable for mature readers. It may be offensive to some readers.
I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.
A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written true crime book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great movie, mini TV series or documentary (True Crime; American Crime Story; Investigative Discovery). A very easy rating of 4/5 stars.

During a five-year period Eric Edgar Cooke, also known as the Night Crawler, killed 8 people and attempted to murder 18 others. One of Australia’s most infamous serial killers, he was also the last man hanged for murder in Perth, Australia. Eric Edgar Cooke: The True Story of the Night Crawler by Jack Rosewood and Rebecca Lo traces Cooke from his troubled childhood to his execution, exploring the factors that turned a troubled child into a vicious killer who killed people because he ‘enjoyed it.’ A chilling book, especially given that it is covering actual events, it shows that not all serial killers work to pattern as popular media portrays. Done in reportorial style, it contains information about several other serial killers in other parts of the globe, and cryptic anecdotes about some of Cooke’s victims who managed to survive his assaults. It would have been a stronger book if the authors had restricted themselves to addressing Cooke. I found the extra material pulled my attention away from the main subject, and not offering more detailed information to help explain serial killing, parts that I found myself skipping over. An interesting book, it could be much, much better if the narrative had been confined to Cooke and his crimes. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my unbiased review.
Never a fan of the short true crime books but because there are no other books (that I know) about this killer pus the raving reviews on amazon I am going to give it a try.
I have been on a roll lately. Have read some very good true crime books. Some I purchased through kindle Unlimited so just saying it is not all sheit books you get with this program. ;) It does make me read more which is a good thing.
Update May 19. I read this book a few days ago. T be fair it is well written but it is just the facts and yes i want the facts but not just that. I could find all this info online.
It is just not my cup of coffee but I am sure others would enjoy.
Had an electricity shutdown for about an hour, due to maintenance. No AC, Fan, TV, internet, so what to do? Started to read this one, as it was handy as a recent download, which I had set aside as too boring. Short and unexciting!
