La informática y sus aplicaciones en el campo de la proyectación han transformado radicalmente la manera de pensar el diseño. Durante mucho tiempo se vinculó al diseño industrial con la materialidad específica del objeto. En la actualidad se ha ampliado dramáticamente su campo de acción abarcando el área de la comunicación visual y del diseño gráfico. Del objeto a la interfase, a partir de esta transformación, reinterpreta al diseño como parte esencial de las estructuras informáticas y de la interfase gráfica de la computación. Bonsiepe aporta en este libro su rica experiencia profesional y didáctica tanto en el área teórica como práctica. Propone una interpretación según la cual tanto la informática como la multimedia pasan a ser consideradas como nuevas herramientas cognoscitivas, plantea una nueva consideración del diseño en los países de la Periferia -o del (ex)Tercer Mundo- ocupándose de la transferencia tecnológica, la ecología, la dependencia y la identidad cultural. Partiendo de la idea del proyecto como elemento esencial de una sociedad emancipada, los ensayos contenidos en este volumen, no sólo profundizan los temas básicos del diseño en la actualidad, sino que también abarcan todo lo relacionado con la disciplina proyectual, que ubican al lector en la gran problemática de la cultura material de nuestra sociedad incluyendo la revolución comunicativa de nuestros días.

About the author

He is a German designer, teacher and writer. Especially in South America and Germany, his publications are considered standards of design theory.

Gui Bonsiepe was born in Glücksburg, and studied Graphics and Architecture until 1955 at Bayerische Akademie der Schönen Künste, Munich and at TU München. Until 1959, he studied at Ulm School of Design (Hochschule für Gestaltung Ulm) in the Information Department. Between 1960 and 1968, he worked as an Assistant Professor at Ulm School of Design. After closure of the Ulm School of Design in 1968, Bonsiepe relocated to South America, working as a design consultant. From 1970 to 1973, he led the design team for the transaction room of the Cybersyn project.From 1987 to 1989, Bonsiepe worked as an interface designer in a software company in Emeryville, California, United States.

From 1993 to 2003, Bonsiepe was Professor for Interface Design at Köln International School of Design (KISD) in Germany.He was Professor for Integrated Media at Escola Superior de Desenho Industrial (ESDI), Universidade do Estado de Rio de Janeiro, where he planned and established a Master of Design study program.

He lives in La Plata, Buenos Aires and in Florianópolis, Brasil.

I read this book in 1994. At the time I had a considerable experience with the configuration and design of library systems, databases and information retrieval software but I did not know pretty much anything about human computer interaction or theories and practice of information design. I had played for some time with the work of Bruno Munari and I was very interested in aspects of lettering, graphic layout and illustrations for house organs, newsletters and other printed products but I had never imagined I would design web interfaces for the following ten years.
Bonsiepe opened to me an entire universe of notions and ideas to rethink information management and communication for the digital space and I remember that I found his work very dynamic and inspirational, helpful both conceptually and in practice. It did not belong to my background education in library and information science but it sounded something I could easily integrate into other knowledge. It encouraged me to learn more from ergonomists, cognitive psychologists and usability engineers and industrial designers in the following years.

Es un libro interesante, aunque un poco repetitivo ya que está compuesto por textos sueltos. Creo que de haberse planteado como una sola unidad, hubiese sido mucho más rico.

Tiene buenos temas. Son cortos y concisos, se puede leer en el orden que uno quiera como si cada tema fuera una micro cápsula. Reflexiona a profundidad del rol del diseñador y su trabajo como proyectista así como su inmersión en una realidad compleja.

En algunos temas se nota una contaminación del criterio por una rama marxista, sin embargo también es interesante entender su postura.
