Yūsei Matsui (松井優征 Matsui Yūsei?, born January 31, 1981 in Saitama, Japan) is a manga artist known for manga Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro. He was an assistant of Yoshio Sawai, the manga artist of Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo (Shirota Masakage made a cameo appearance in Shinsetsu Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo).
In this volume, the 19th of 21, we are in the final phase of the answer to the question: Will Koro Sensei’s students assassinate him as he has trained them to do, or will he destroy the world? Or is there, after all this time, a third answer that will be satisfying? As usual, we see the students in a normal school context, as they all get admitted to their first or second choices for schools, and they plan a yearbook with their teacher, la la la la.
Then comes the Wolf Pack, the greatest assassins yet, who trap the tentacled one. The kids begin to really take leadership, especially Nagisa and Karma, who learns how to back down when he needs to and stay cool. It is for real the beginning of the end (in English, anyway, since it is done already in Japanese!), but it will take two more volumes, the next one in English in February 2018.
We're definitely building toward a climax here. Plans are underway to kill Koro Sensei, and those plans don't involve class 3-E. Yeah. It all works out for the planners about as well as you'd expect. Some sort of final showdown seems to be on deck for volumes 20 and 21. Looking forward to it!
I enjoyed this series very much. The ending did not feel rushed and was satisfying. Very emotional towards the end where I delayed reading the last few pages as I did not want it to end. Highly recommend!
Even with the end closing in on him and the whole world against him, Koro Sensei's first priority remains teaching and protecting his students. Admirable.
Unlike a lot of manga, the creator has a definite conclusion in mind and is deliberately and skillfully working toward it.
Kind of enjoyed this one, though I find it hilariously infuriating Class E can take down such strong enemies within seconds. I’m ready for heartbreak nearing the end of this series and I’ll be disappointed if it has a super cheesy happy ending :( (Sometimes an emotional end is the best kind)
The tension and drama is definitely building to a conclusion in this volume, and I flew through it. I have loved these characters and this story more than I can say.
Siamo all’atto finale e io sono triste.
Overall Rating: 8/10 - I enjoyed this series. Original, full of detailed characters. The story is original and very well written. You end up hating and loving Koro-Sensei and understand the emotion each student goes through until the end. Ending is perfect, wouldn't change a thing. I recommend this series. ** Love those covers by the way, simple and perfect fit.
Do I recommend it: Oh yes! It's super fun, each character is fun, original and maturing as the story progresses. Lots of comic relief and perfect arcs!
Kurang dua volume lagi. Duuuhhh... Ngga tega segera mengakhiriu seri ini...
Volume nineteen of Assassination Classroom finally ditched the side arcs and plunged straight into the end of the series. Koro-sensei wanted to create a special yearbook and ends up taking the class around the world to take thousands of photos of them. He ends up staying late after school to work on the yearbook when the government decides to hatch their plan. They fire a laser of light from a satellite in outer space at the school. The light doesn’t destroy physical material, but rather, it destroys tentacle monsters like Koro-sensei. Somehow, Koro-sensei dodges the laser beam just in time, only sustaining minor damage.
The mountain is then sealed off in a dome of anti-tentacle matter, trapping Koro-sensei on the mountain. The satellite is charging to 100% for a final, decisive strike. Nagisa and the others learn of what’s happening and want to see Koro-sensei, but they are captured by the government. They end up escaping thanks to the efforts of Karasuma and Bitch-sensei. The path to the mountain isn’t an easy one, though. They have to content with the Wolf Pack, lead by Craig Hojo, aka God’s Soldier. They are an elite group of mercenaries and the last line of defense of the barrier.
Of course, in typical Assassination Classroom fashion, the kids prevail and reunite with Koro-sensei. Just then, the barrier disappears in one spot briefly and we catch a glimpse of the final battle to come. I loved the story that was told here, although parts of it were a bit on the unbelievable side, but that’s something you end up getting used to with this series.
There are two volumes left to go and with all of the filler out of the way, these last two volumes could rival Koro-sensei’s backstory as some of the best chapters in the series. I’m certainly pumped to see how the story comes to its conclusion.
We didn’t get to spend much time with the new character Craig Hojo. We ran into him early on in the volume as he and the other members of the Wolf Pack posed as common street thugs in order to gain intel on Class 3-E. The next time we see him is when they kidnap the kids and then depart for the mountain. Sure, we get some information about his battle prowess and experience, but that’s all we really get. Considering how quickly they wrote him off, it makes sense that we didn’t get much time with him. He does seem to have a noble persona about him, even when he tries to go “beast mode.” Even when he was fighting the students, he took into account their ages and whether or not he should use real bullets. A true assassin wouldn’t care, but he actually had a human side to him.
I kind of liked him as a character, but this is Assassination Classroom we’re talking about. Characters don’t really get long-term development here. It was pretty hilarious that the “Commander” never actually got any development. In fact, he didn’t even get a name! Every time a situation came up where he could say his name, someone cut him off or flat out told him that they didn’t care what his name was. He does make a great point, though, that even if the chance is less than 1%, that’s still too high of a chance when the safety and security of the entire Earth is in question. It is sound reasoning behind why they are taking these steps to assassinate Koro-sensei.
You can’t really fault them for doing so. After all, any good government will take the necessary steps to protect its people. In this case, they are protecting the entire Earth. Painting Koro-sensei in such a negative light; however, was necessary to avoid public sympathy, but it still doesn’t excuse it from being an underhanded tactic. The “Commander” is a good example of a character that has to make tough decisions to do what is necessary. I just found it hilarious that an important character like that got treated in such a minuscule fashion! Outside of these two characters, Karma was the only student to get any further development. His development was a simple maturing process. He was able to keep his temper in check for the first time during their run in with the Wolf Pack. This lead to unnecessary violence between the two of them which could have jeopardized the government’s upcoming plan. It was a nice little touch to his character, but it felt more like a retribution aspect more than development. There really isn’t enough time left in this series to see that new nuance about him used again. It really felt like a one and done characteristic.
Volume nineteen of Assassination Classroom got me pumped up for the conclusion of the series. While it seems far-fetched that junior high students can thwart an entire government and the world’s leading mercenary team, you have to remember that it was just last volume that they snuck on board the International Space Station. Assassination Classroom just keeps coming up with these ridiculous situations that are beyond belief, but at the same time, that’s what makes this series incredibly fun.
That’s the special charm that Assassination Classroom brings with it because you can experience drama and comedy all in the same situation. It shows that this series doesn’t take itself too seriously and that’s a good thing. It gives it its own personality… even if that personality has been seen in several other series. Despite it not being an original concept, Assassination Classroom finds a way to make it its own and make it feel special. Now that Yanigasawa and Grim Reaper II have entered the thunderdome, all that’s left is the battle between these two and the final decision with Koro-sensei!
The good: -The "conclusion" feel of this chapters, now we finally start to see some closure for the many different arcs, and we can see the students recognizing how much they've grown. -The school ground battle. -Karma's leadership. -Karma and Nagisa team up.
The bad: -The villain was introduced and defeated so quickly. Everyone talked about how capable, powerful and dangerous was this guy, but I didn't see that.
Způsob, jakým byly vyobrazeny zkoušky, se mi moc nezamlouval a tyto části mě ani moc nebavily. Naštěstí tam byly pouze krátce a jen dvakrát.
Hlavně by mi určitě brejlatá holka sebrala Karmu a to bych jí neodpustila.
Dávám 90% Jazyk: Aj ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Re-Read: June 2021 I'm just going to reiterate what I said in my original review. This volume was amazing and is definitely one of the best in the series. Even though I remembered everything that happened, this volume was super fun and exciting. There were a lot of awesome action scenes but also a ton of character development. I'm really sad that the series is almost over because every volume is so good.
Original Review WHY DID THIS HAVE TO END ON A CLIFFHANGER!!! I don’t know how I’m going to survive until I get my hands on volume 20. This was such a good volume! At first, I thought that this was going to be more of a filler/character development volume, but it definitely wasn’t! A lot of this volume did focus on bonding, but there was certainly a lot of action as well.
The volumes opening episode centered around my bae, Karma, so I knew from the start that I was going to love this volume. It was a short episode, but it really showed how much he has grown since the beginning of the series. (And it introduced a serious antagonist!) The next few episodes were a ton of fun, and I was laughing through all of it. I loved seeing all the photos of the students! They were so funny and cute, and it really makes me want to re-read the entire series. And they showed some of the different friendships of Class E, and I live for their friendships (especially Nagia, Rio, and Karma's). As I have mentioned many times before, the bond between the student of Class E is so strong! It really makes me wish that I was a part of their class. I’m certainly not as close to all my classmates as the students in Class E! Then again, I also don’t go on assassination missions with my classmates, so it makes sense that we’re not as close...
The last half was so action-packed, and I just couldn’t put it down! I ignored all my homework and the notifications on my phone because I needed to know what would happen next. For the first time in the entire series, I was actually worried about Koro Sensei. I’m so impressed with the authors ability to continually come up with interesting plots, and his ability to build suspense. I was so tense while reading this, and I very rarely feel tense when reading graphic novels. The fight scenes were really well drawn, and the sequences were really interesting. Class E has grown so much as assassins, and I loved seeing them put their skills to the test. I was a bit surprised that Karma, not Isogai took a leadership role in battle on the mountain, but in hindsight it’s the obvious choice. Karma proved his leadership skills in volume 17, and the whole series has kind of been building to this point.
I was really happy with the development of Karasuma’s character. He has created such strong bonds with the students in Class E, and it’s great that he’s finally admitting how much he loves them - and Irina ;). And while we’re talking about Irina, I’m so glad that Meg told her how important she was to all the students. It was a sweet moment, and Irina seemed so touched. She seems so much happier now than she did at the beginning of the series. I also liked that she played a big role in I love seeing her show off her skills. After all, she is a fairly accomplished assassin!
Principal Asano really surprised me. He’s so much nicer than before! I like that the author remembered to draw his leaf-shaped tie clip since it’s such a strong symbol for his original teaching goals. Of course he’s still quite devious, with all the brainwashing that goes on, but I still love his character. Well, maybe I don’t love him, but I love whenever his character is on page.
I have to at least mention Nagisa. He has consistently shown why he’s practically the main character in this ensemble series. He’s such a wonderful character to read about. He’s super nice, but he’s also smart, driven, and a world-class assassin. I don’t know if Class E would have succeeded without him. He always seems to read between the lines, and his strong bonds with all of his teachers helped them a lot this volume. I’m glad he’s decided to be a teacher. I think he’ll be an amazing one. And I’m glad his relationship with his mother is improving! He deserves it.
This whole series seems to be a love letter to teachers. Even though I’m sure I’d hate it, this series paints teaching in such a positive light that I almost want to become one! I never really thought about how much my teachers have affected me, but I supposed they must have had a huge affect on me. I spend a huge portion of my day with them, and they’ve really shaped who I am as a person. Whether they’ve had a positive or negative effect on my is debatable, depending on the teacher, but I am thankful for what I’ve learned from them. None of them have been as amazing as Koro Sensei, but some have come pretty close.
This didn’t really fit anywhere in my review, but I just wanted to mention how much I’ve warmed up to Itona. I used to find his really boring, but I really like him now! I just wanted to show him some love since I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned him before. My review is kind of a mess, but that’s just because I loved it so much! I’m really bad at describing my thoughts and feelings if they’re very strong. By that I mean that I such at explaining why I love/hate something. I love this series so much that I can’t put it into words. Just thinking about it makes me smile :). Anyway, I loved this volume SO MUCH and I can’t wait till volume 20!
Seeing Class 3-E, students and teachers alike, come together to not only escape a government facility, but get past multiple levels of security just goes to show how much Koro-Sensei meant to each of them and how much they have learned. The second half of this volume is the first time we see the class working and scheming knowing that Koro-Sensei will not be there to save the day and it's inspiring.
Other moments of note: - Karma learning to conceal his strength to achieve his goals is a powerful lesson for an alpha character like him. - Although it's the perfect choice for him, Nagisa's career plans of becoming a teacher with assassin as a back up plan was amazingly drawn in this book. - I love that Fake Ritsu got her own character page.
Volume 19 is titled Time to Go to School. Koro Sensei is caught in a trap by the government's making. He's surrounded by a force field that he can't escape and an anti-tentacle beam is gearing up to kill him for good. The students have to break in to see him one last time and to be the one to make the kill.
This book did a good job setting up the epic battle that's coming in the next volume. You see some more character development from Karma and Nagisa, which was nice. Also, the relationship between Vitch and Karasuma is just so freaking cute that I can't stand it. I'm hoping for a happy ending for EVERYONE!
Heading into the endgame of this series, I don't feel much about it one way or the other. The only reason I'm bothering to finish it is because I have all the volumes, and any given book takes very little time to read.
Don't take this is a mark against the series, though--as more time goes along, shonen manga has a harder and harder time keeping my interest. A reader who likes action scenes and absurd, juvenile humor (the author worked on Bobobo as an assistant, and names it as a major influence) could well derive a lot of enjoyment from it.
Kuri Sensei goes into full student councilor mode and completes talks with each of his students, while making sure he creates a Yearbook specifically for Class-E which is nothing short of amazing!!! A trap has been set for Kuri Sensei and it has everyone (including me as a reader) questioning how it is possible to escape!?! Class-E is being seen but not heard and Kuri Sensei has been masterfully placed as the villain of the story in the world's eyes! With Sensei trapped in the school the kids begin a daring and awe-inspiring attempt to reach Sensei.....the stakes are at their highest points and the story is reaching a climactic conclusion worthy of such an amazing series!
[comment on the Japanese edition] This is one of the best volumes so far. It is a shame that it begins with chapter 161, which contains blatantly xenophobic representations of foreigners. Volume 19 could have easily been a 5/5, but I cannot simply ignore the impact that such scenes may have on the many young Japanese readers who will pick up this book.
Having that said, I enjoyed the quick pace, the new developments and how the characters react to those changes in accordance to their personalities and what we know about them so far.
