To become the first female SEAL, she’ll have to match wits with the best…
Lieutenant Tabitha Chapel is determined to join the Teams. She’s not about to let a little thing like gender get in her way. She’ll use every wile–feminine or otherwise–and her considerable strength of will to win this battle of the sexes. But the limits of her determination are tested by the only Navy SEAL capable of commanding her heart.
Commander Marc Miller is equally determined to keep her out of his program. As the newly appointed CO of BUD/S, he’s been tasked with cleaning up SEAL Training. He doesn’t need a red-hot redhead compounding the problem. For him Hell Week begins when one well-connected junior officer walks into his office.
The last thing he wants is to be her commanding officer when the only thing he wants is her. The only way to have her––and the surest way to lose her––is to see that she fails.
This book had the potential to be great. The battle between a SEAL instructor and the woman determined to become the first female SEAL, along with the love they share, had all the elements of a passionate story. Unfortunately, the book was lacking.
The Navy/SEAL aspects of this story were fantastic. The terminology, situations, descriptions and mindsets were all well done. There was never a doubt where and who we were dealing with, but enough exposition the reader wouldn't get lost. Kudos to the author for this.
What wasn't well done, however, was the love story. It seemed so much happened off page or not at all. The attraction between Tabitha and Marc was instant and powerful. The adversarial relationship was natural and flowed well. Marc showed Tabitha sweet moments, but the underlying hostility remained. I was expecting an explosive, passionate moment when the two gave into their desires. That didn't happen. There was a mention of nightly phone calls, where the two talked for hours...all happened off page. I can't feel the development of a relationship when I don't know what happened. So, when the moment of truth came - it was soft and tender. It didn't fit what I was expecting, nor what I felt fit the characters.
I just didn't feel it and didn't care much if they ended up together because there was little build up. A few added conversations, or even inner thoughts, and the story would have all the pieces needed to be great. I still rated this 3 stars because of the well written military aspect and the fact the characters remained 100% true to their uniforms throughout.
I had to swallow a LOT of misogyny to get through this book. And I'm not sure why I continued to slug through. It was written in 2016 but so many times I thought I was reading a book from the pre 80's.
Heroine wanted to be a seal but the hero, her commanding officer, didn't want her to be because he was afraid she'd get raped and didn't want to follow a woman into danger. Even if she was capable of completing all the training. Sure, that is a factor, but it was her decision to make not his. The fact is, men are more likely to get raped from joining the military than if they remained a regular citizen.
Hero wanted her to stay home where it was safe yet he had no trouble expecting her to worry about him while he went off and did his SEAL thing. DOUBLE STANDARD. Sickening. The heroine held to her guns and eventually he changed his mind, but he tried to sabatoge her efforts to become a SEAL many times. And he didn't believe in her. I don't think I could have been attracted to that.
full of action and with a lovely way of writing the author brings us a story of true love and commitment and above all, how we can keep and accomplish our most wild dreams.
I liked this book a lot. The conflict between characters, the characters themselves, were believable. There were some additional conflicts to the primary one (spoiler withheld) which were original.
I did have a few issues. The characters did a lot of thinking about their conflicts, but not much talking about them. And, although Hell Week was covered, the rest of SEAL training wasn't. And unfortunately, I just don't believe a woman, even an Olympic athlete, could make it through. No matter how athletic she is, I don't think she'd have the upper body strength needed to perform at that level. Or the stamina to maintain that level for as long (which can be days or weeks) as is required. And we didn't get a look at her doing that. Everything, including issues between Tabby and her family, got tied up very quickly and neatly. So I guess I had a few issues with the plot, but the characters and basic story were great.
I gave this a four star rating. It would have been a five star rating but the ending fell short, way to rushed. There were a few misspelled words but overall the novel was well written with lots of information that made you feel as if you were right there in the mix of all the action and training. Tabitha was a bad-ass SEAL. She's one tough cookie that does not crumble. Marc was an alpha all around but you learned he can compromise...eventually. I have thoroughly enjoyed this contemporary romance novel. The characters were well thought out, the dialogue nicely written, and the plot one was one that anyone would find interesting even if some spots seemed to just touch the surface and the ending, ending too soon.
For anyone that enjoys a romantic contemporary novel with military men and woman, this would be the book for you.
I've tried to read this story, I've even enjoyed the characters and the plot, but I had to give up. I got annoyed with the sexist innuendos, many of them made by the heroine (!).
🤣I can't believe I am reviewing this book, I read this book when Obama was running the House and people had yet to acknowledge the existence of the Human Virus Andrew Tate.
▶Anyways, if you have been following my reviews you'd know that I NEVER , not even by mistake do I read these books, so you'll hate this if you have similar tastes as me.
🟧🥺And excuse my NAVY references here please. I am not familiar with it much so... I might use wrong terminology a few times. You are welcome to correct me.
⭐When I read this the first time I would have given this a solid 3 n 1/2 out of 5 stars. ⭐But acc. to my current tastes.... bruh it's 1 star.

🔯No-virgins.
🔯No-age gap.
🔯Totally safe book.
🔯No OP scenes. Both celibate and neither with others after meeting.
🔯The h is the Hs lieutenant's daughter-Forbidden Romance.
🔯The h is adopted.
🔯Strong friendship with side characters. Everyone's VERY supportive.
🟥OW DRAMA- This gunna b long....
💢The H was in a relationship in Army School with his best friend's NOW fiancé(let's call her Amy cuz I don't remember her name).
💢He loved Amy, wanted to marry her and have babies with her.
💢But she revealed to him after graduation that she loved his best friend more *internally screaming 'bitch'*.
💢The Hs heart broke, but he let go of her and she got engaged to his bff.
💢Amy did NOT cheat on H. She was.... wait for it....KINDA NICE. Yeah, unbelievable right? The OW of this book was a TOTAL sweet girl. *slapping myself reluctantly for saying that*
💢Amy helped the H and h to realize that they are made for each other and to help the H specifically realise that he shud not give up on love just because he couldnt have her(Amy).
💢But, the thing is that the H and his bff are in the same task force, so Amy is around all the time.
💢Her and the H are 'just friends' now, they don't have any hard feelings.
💢The H is still friends with his bff to whom Amy got engaged. They didn't fight over the girl.
❎The past relationship is not talked about now. Amy and H NEVER talk about it, around page 350 or smthng, in just one paragraph its revealed all of the above things I just told you.
💢The H, though moved on, but got vasectomy, coz he gave up on love and because he couldn't have babies with the woman of his dreams(Amy), he shall now remain Childless.
🟧No OM drama.
😎🥺💯The h is why I loved this book.
❣❣Like, I think she was a real life warrior.
🙏😓🔥You WOULD NOT believe how strong she was.
🟥If I recall correctly, all the soldiers came back to the base in Afghanistan, she was presumed dead by everyone.
🟥But few days later, she returned with a crippled leg and a 4 y/o boy whom she had rescued alone while fighting Talibanist.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Very strong h. I'll give 2 stars only for her.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
🟥The book has a lot of military drama. Beware, you might get bored, but I didnt because I was quite interested in knowing what would happen next. It was sort of...anticipatory book for me.
🟧Since, this is an enemies-to-lovers romance, it takes them a LOT of time to overcome their insecurities and all, while focusing on their mission.
😶HEA.
🟩The H and h , at last marry and adopt the child h saved from the Talibani's coz he is an orphan.
▶The character development I have to say was amazing.
🟩The H finally pulled his head out of his ass ,and fell in love with h.
🥺The h is SEVERLY injured in the book, so much so that she has to get bald to get operated on her head injury.
🔥Smut-6/10.
⛔Triggering-Yeah Ig so. The whole description of mission and what they encounter in the war field is pretty triggering. But, not that triggering at the same time.
So much tension on so many levels, this book kept me up most of the night until I finished and turned off my Kindle. I didn't realize until today that it was published in 1999, twenty years ago!
Still. So much to love. The problem is, there could have been more. Way more. I know, I know, it's a romance. The author kept her focus on that aspect. But she could have brought in more details of the SEAL training, what it actually takes, so we could truly live the experience with Tabby, and see the reactions of her fellow trainees to how she performed, how she gained their trust and respect. Were there times she was tempted to quit because it was all too much? There had to be. Did she surprise herself at what she was able to endure as a female while so many men dropped out? It would have been great to see that as a female, and for all those women who strive to become a SEAL. But we were never given those sides of her challenges. The whole experience was presented to us through the misogynistic lens of a man who wanted her to fail for his own selfish reasons. A one-dimensional experience in the worst sense. A huge missed opportunity. A one-star downgrade.
The ending felt too rushed. I wanted more there, too. Way more. After what the couple had gone through, the mistakes and misunderstandings, I felt cheated, especially when I turned to the next page and read The End.
What?
No.
More.
Another star downgrade.
Overall, I absolutely loved the story, what being in the military truly meant for Tabby and Marc, what they had to prove to themselves, the challenges they faced, the constant push and pull against what they wanted versus what they could and couldn't have. It pulled me through the pages all night long.
So first of all this book is actually older than 2016.
If you read it, the reference to technology gives it away. Fax. Using public phones at hospitals. Bank of phones. Answering machines.
There isn’t a lot of texting or even real mention of mobile phones which were quite common place in 2016.
I think I read this book when it was first published. Before it was re - published. Before e-books became a thing.
This book is sort of reminds me of Avatar the last Airbender. Soka was such a misogynist, but then by the end of the episode and the end of the series, he grew and depended on his warrior girlfriend. He saved his friends and powerful benders depending on him too.
So I enjoyed that in the end, she got what all women deserve, love, and the chance to do what you love.
It’s obviously fiction, but I think her reactions are believable. And I like that she paid him back. And the boys back.
But sometimes there is something nebulous that you enjoy. There are some authors that I devour almost anything in everything written by them. I have read. Long series. Shorter trilogies. Standalones. Novellas.
This is a similar thing with Music. But sometimes you like only one thing of the artist. And you love that one thing. I think that is the case for me. I don’t know why this book is so much fun for me to read. Even years later, I remember some of the Writing.
I think I enjoy the scene with the mother as well. What would you say to me and then Tabatha answers, and then she says well there you go. [I am keeping it big for spoilers.]
I think the longest short of it is, there is growth, romance, female, friendship, male friendship, and a better banter. If you like these things, you may enjoy this book.
Gees, this woman wants to be a SEAL? The commanding officer thinks women have no place in the SEALS. When he meets her, he is so turned on he can't shake her hand when she leaves. Really? Are you kidding me. Gees. She starts off the first week following him to a bar and commences flirting with him, rubbing her body against him after she finally gets him to dance. This is someone who wants to be a SEAL. I'm sorry. Can't take this book seriously. Quit after 3 chapters.
This book is a disservice to women in the military. If you are a soldier, act like one. I just don't think women should seduce men in their unit, nor should men seduce women in their unit. How can a women be a SEAL with a unit of men if she leads with sex?
I ended up liking this book a lot more than I thought I would even though there were quite a bit of sexist moments in it.
Tabby was a really great h. It was lovely to read about someone who really put 100% in achieving her goals and did not back down from her obstacles. When Marc was being a jerk, she did not roll over and give in.
Marc had his sexist moments but I think ultimately, he did come to terms with Tabby being a Seal and you could see that his reluctance for her to be a seal stemmed from his worry.
To think this story was written before the possibility of a female SEAL even was in the air. Now who knows if there is a female out there to actually taking on BUDs training. I hope there is considering the other services elite special warfare units have had females go through their training. I’m a retired Naval Petty Officer 1st Class and I’m looking forward to the day that a female breaks that Navy SEAL barrier. I liked the way this story was written and even included a bullheaded Commander who ended up changing is home about everything because of a very stubborn female.
A great story that can be classified as "enemies to lovers" placed in a military environment. This time the woman is not in her archetypical position, she fights for equal rights in a very man-dominated field. The whole story is very captivating and the slow-burn pace of romance makes this story more refined. The main characters have to overcome so many problems, external as well as internal issues and hang-ups that the content seems very intense. The insight into this very specific occupation group (American Navy) and the transformation it undergoes is an additional bonus. Mast read!
She wanted to be a Navy SEAL, her father vehemently disagreed. Without h I s knowledge she enters training and meets even more opposition. Her trainer hates the thought of a woman in his Navy. Breaking new ground and shattering the glass ceiling is not for the faint hearted and this story depicts the traumatic journey undertaken by the women traveling that road. Would recommend this for any woman considering that path.
I loved Tabby, a strong woman, who knew what she wanted and didn't let anybody get her in the way. She didn't just want to get by with her family name either, she wanted it in her own merits. A really good stong character.
The only thing lacking in this story was there was a lot of chemistry between Tabby and Marc but no description when they were finally able to act on it. I was a little disappointed.
Tabitha's family history is steeped in Navy tradition, more specifically Navy SEAL tradition. She wants more than anything to become a Navy SEAL. The only trouble is the Navy doesnt allow females to become Seals. She has to fight every step of the way and has some unexpected surprises (good and bad) along the way. Romance doesnt play part of her plans but this somehow manages to derail her plans. What will she choose romance or becoming a SEAL?
This is a new author for me. I love books with military characters an I enjoyed reading this one. The plot do not have a lot of action but there was enough drama and controversy to keep me reading. If you love a strong determined heroine who became a seal regardless of all the adds that was stacked against her, you will love this book. I recommend it.
It wasn`t a horrible book but definitelly didn`t meet my expectations. It had some real mainstreem and predictable moments. However there were some aspects that really made a good impression on me. I did like the strong female personality and he determination. I think we need more books that focus on women making it in all-men professions.
This book was one of the best seal stories I have read I. A while. The storyline is great & it was well written.Tabby & Marc filled you into the story where it felt like you were living it.No putting it down until the end. It pointed out comprise is needed regardless of your career. Wonderful story.
Couldn’t put the book down! I know I could never be a woman in the armed services-I am such a wiz! But Seal with a Kiss brought to life that husbands and wives careers do not have to be chosen over marriage. Like everywhere in life-give and take-will get you where you want to be!
A very interesting change of pace with a female SEAL. The romance and attraction between Marc and Tabby is very read worthy. The work that was credited to Tabby to become a SEAL was way too light even for a civilian. If you read anything about SEALs it is a very tough process, Tabby sounded like she skipped thru.
I really enjoyed this book. I liked Tabby and understood what she wanted and why. I felt like Marc took some time to warm up to. He treated Tabby pretty badly in trying to get her to give up her dream. I understood his concerns about her being a SEAL but it wasn’t his choice.
I've owned this book in paperback for years, and it was starting to fall apart from all the times I've read it. I was ecstatic to find it in ebook. Now I can re-read it however many times I want, and not worry about it falling apart!
I absolutely adore both characters in this book. They're both incredibly stubborn, but that's what makes them so relatable! This book leaves you wanting more from them, while also being pleased with the way things are wrapped up.
LOVED IT. The ending brought tears to my eyes, so beautiful!! I highly recommend this read. I have already started reading the next one in the series. The books continue with characters from the previous books but each is DEFINITELY a stand alone book. (I don't do sequels)
This book started out fast and never left you wanting it to end. The characters and description had me actually seeing the landscape . She is now one of my favorite authors
I enjoyed the book, the characters, the problem, the details, etc. I just didn't enjoy the conclusion. For one it wrapped up too fast without enough consideration by both parties, and it didn't seem like it was a realistic possibility.
So Good! There was many moments when I put the book down in disgust😞 but I ALWAYS picked it back up again. Marc was such a a**😡 for most of the book but I did start to like him toward the end. LOVED the way it ended😊!
