Penelope Hunt is well on her way to becoming a spinster. When Colin Worthing courted her secretly for an entire season before making off with her virginity, he ensured that she could never make a good match … or put the pieces of her broken heart back together again. His duplicity has her convinced that men are not to be trusted, and that she would be foolish to bind herself in marriage to one for the rest of her life. Deciding that life as a spinster has its benefits, she vows to avoid matrimony and enjoy her life in any way that she can—the inheritance to be had on her twenty-fifth birthday will see her endowed to do just that.
When the commissioned officer returns home years later, much older and wiser than the young rake who ruined her, he wants nothing more than to put his past behind him and make amends for his treatment of Penelope by marrying her. Setting out to woo her and convince her he’s changed, he never expects competition in the form of his best friend, Edmond Ingham.
With both men out to steal her heart, a jaded Penelope begins a game of intrigues and passion—one that the members of the ton would be shocked to know she indulged in. But what does it matter when men have been breaking hearts since the dawn of time? Perhaps, the two men deserve to have their hearts played with.
And, perhaps, in two very different men, she will find that the love she thought couldn’t exist for two might just be possible with three.
Victoria Vale writes erotic romance that refuses to stay in its lane. She hops between history and suspense, blending danger with desire until the edges blur. Her stories are marked by bold heroines, irresistible heroes, and heat that never behaves the way it should. Love Me Darkly (2025) proves passion is always at its best when it misbehaves.
This is one of those books where you don't have a favorite character because everyone seems to screw up things for the other. That being said, I hated the heroine the most. Sure, there's a reason/trauma for why she turned out to be so detached and cold but her actions were stupid and downright vindictive. However, the second half felt reasonable and content. And I finally made peace with Penelope (our heroine) for being compassionate towards the end.
The H abandoned the h after seducing her, he's back and he wants to marry her. Her family protected her, so she wasn't ruined but has become cynical. He asks his best friend to help him win her hand in marriage. Trouble is, his friend needs to marry an heiress and he falls in love with her too. The plot had a few too many convenient elements, and I really disliked the street scenes, just yuck. But I did like how they eventually resolved their issues. Would have loved an epilogue.
This is an erotic romance, emphasis on EROTIC. The book is basically half spice and half HR tropes. If you're in the mood for a waltz and a garden fondle followed by a carriage scene followed by a 3some with an erotic post-HEA epilogue, then you're probably in the mood for Tempting Two. But that's only half of the book! The other half of the book includes tried and true romance tropes like: A scarred war hero Waterloo veteran who's returned home to claim the sweetheart he left behind; An ethical fortune hunter enlisting his female friend's help to find a bride; A doting stepfather who will do anything to protect his stepdaughter; And more!
12-Word Summaries: Meg: The more members of a relationship, the more romance tropes to enjoy. Laine: Reasons one can be a "confirmed bachelor"; gay, ED, husband in triad.
The most believable ménage. Most of the story is the set up to make the relationship feel authentic. And it really needed for me. In other erotic ménage stories I've read, the physical relationship brings about the emotional relationship. In this story, we take the time to understand how the emotional relationships lead to the physical. It was fun and I'd definitely read more Victoria Vale.
super freaky deaky. But I read the book summary and should have known. Edmond and Colin were the best 🔥🔥💋💋boyfriends a jaded lady Penny could have. I really liked her bitterness during the first half of the book. But invoking the trinity in a threesome’s wedding liturgy felt a little sacrelig. I had to do a headshake with the irony. not getting all the stars because the freeky factor took away from this author’s usually great delivery of historical romance in a steamy package.
I didn't enjoy this one as much as books one and two, because there are three people with BIG FEELINGS that they CAN'T CONTAIN and a heroine who thinks revenge f***ing is going to be a good idea (is that ever a good idea?). But hey, SEX. And I liked the heroes, so I wanted to see them get their half of a happily ever after. I haven't been drawn to the menage trope because I feel like it would be very hard to balance the emotions of three people in a relationship, and so I have a hard time believing in the ever after part of HEA. I wonder what happens in ten years when the heroine has had babies by both men and they're trying to treat the kids equally and not super confuse them as to why their "uncle" is always around. But I can at least appreciate the story as a happily for now, and I did like the characters.
A Sexy and Sensual Read That Will Leave You Wanting More
The writing is neither overly obscene or callous and boring with the characters proving to be lively and well-flushed Out. I loved the story line and while I did very much predict the end of the story, it did not decrease my enjoyment of it in any way and it is definitely one of my favorites in this sensual series thus far!
Perfectly satisfying in almost all ways - this is MFM with no swordcrossing - it's a very spicy regency erotic novella with just enough character development and plot to move things along. And an extremely hot carriage scene.
I didn't like this book as the previous ones. I found Penny a little childish(I understand the hurt and the revenge but everything has a limit and in this case there are feeling on the table!) I found the story unrealistic. Not because of the historical setting(no one knows what people did in the past in their bedrooms!)neither because of the threesome sex. What disturb me is the fact that I find unrealistic sharing a woman/man who I deeply love with an another person. The jealousy appears and cannot disappear like this. But this is only my personal opinion.
I’ve been slowly making my way through the Scandalous Ballroom Encounters series and each book gets spicier and spicier ❤️🔥 this is the love triangle we have all been wanting. There’s only a small pick me scene but it quickly becomes pick us and VV for this. Would’ve been nice if there was some ⚔️ but all triangles should end this way
Tempting Two is the third book in the Scandalous Ballroom Encounters series. This is an erotic historical romance that can be read as a standalone.
I really enjoyed this why choose story with a blend of second chance and best friend’s ex tropes. This was an entertaining read with lots of spice but also loved the writing and connection to characters.
I wasn’t sure how Colin would be able to get back into Penelope’s good graces and while they don’t excuse his behavior, he is sorry and there’s a good amount of grovel. I liked Edmond who came off caring and sweet but also dominant with Penelope during intimate moments. Penelope is a strong heroine that after having her heart broke decided she’d be in charge of her life going forward.
There are nine encounters with some bondage and the FMC having three with each of the MMC, self pleasure, and two MFM.
I am enjoying this series of historical romances. This one seemed like it took a little while longer than the other books to get to where the three needed to get but I still enjoyed it. I think it is because I knew how it would end and was just wanted to get there quickly. Colin left Penelope years ago and now he wants her back. Colin has his friend Edmond help him win Penelope back but Edmond falls for her too. Penelope finds out about their plan to win her back and she has a little fun with both of them to teach them a lesson.
Usually the drama of love triangles is tiring to me, (just choose already, lol), but this actually drew me in. It would have been a bit better if I had also felt torn over which hero was better, but unfortunately I felt one was by far and away the better catch, so there was no waffling at all for me. lol. I was content with how things worked out though. It had more of an engaging plot than I would have credited it for, and the steam was interwoven pretty seamlessly into the plot, rather than feeling like scenes were shoehorned in willy nilly.
True to historical setting yet can make m/f/m relationships believable even it is a fantasy world. Loved the plot, especially the h, and both male characters without m/m in action which is my preference when it comes to menage HR. Ms. Vale is a queen of erotica HR,her writing is elegant and yet very erotic. All the elements I hoped for in erotica hr is in this book..I am beyond satisfied. Ty Ms. Vale hope you write more books like this.
I can't believe I waited so long to read this book!
This book is so tantalizing. While personally I couldn't deal with two men, Penelope sure does make it sound exciting and fun. This book is so well-written and you really feel for all three of them. They work so well together it's no wonder they ended up wanting to be together. I enjoyed every bit of this romantic trio. Another great one VV.
If you’ve been broken up with, abandoned and left stranded by a man, but took him back and forgave him, please comment below. I never did like Colin. The author did not convince me to forgive him. Penny’s “revenge” on Colin & his best friend Edmund, was to continually have hot sex with them. Revenge. Edmund was the only halfway likable character. I didn’t care so much so that I even skimmed the sex scenes.
What happens when you lose your 1st love? What happens when you Best friend to take care of the woman you love ? What happened when you fall in love w/ your best friends lady? What happens when you're going to break the men's heart to keep their trip intact. Can a lady love 2 men? Can she only have half a heart if she takes one? Read their steamy love story.
Yeah, this works for me. Would have loved it if the guys were into each other, but alas one can't have everything.
This is smutty, the plot revolving around their relationships. All of them have agency leading up to the climax. Although the final end is a bit nonsense from a healthy poly perspective, it's not as bad as it could have been.

The young man who left her at Gretna Green after a night of passion, returns three years later as a war hero. His only goal is to win her back. Enlisting the help of his best friend, it suddenly turns into a love triangle. What are three lovers to do?
Everyone in this book is annoying and childish. It’s basically the FMC two timing them and they ultimate decide they’re ok with it just cause they don’t want to lose her. It’s also MFM which is just a waste of everyone’s time.
Well written with interesting and believable characters. I recommend this series to anyone who loves erotic historical novels. Can't wait to read more from Vale.
