I have a lot to say about ME: An exaggerated autobiography, and frankly speaking, it’s mostly positive.
From the first chapter I was immediately hooked, now you might be thinking, ‘Hey, isn’t this book just an autobiography?’ well, it’s that and MORE, while reading this book I was getting some major Doctor Who vibes, which took me back to my childhood and the origins of my love of sci-fi and fantasy. If you enjoy science fiction at all, you’ll love this eccentric and wacky tale.
Onto the plot, it mainly centres around the main character (the author) and his special powers, the pacing is quite fast and can even be confusing at times, but this is mainly due to the author’s style of quickly switching between themes, times and places, one second you’re a cure seller in the wild west, and the next you’re a knight slaying a dragon (that you created) terrorising a village during 5th-century England.
In terms of downsides, there are very few, like I said in my previous paragraph sometimes the pacing greatly varies, for example, slower in some areas and faster in others, we can see this with the starting chapters where the pacing is even and comfortable, and then later chapters where the themes switch fast, and we're taken through many events, this might confuse some people or even break their immersion.
I didn't find it an annoyance though and still thoroughly enjoyed reading the book, for the characters I found that some are extremely eccentric while others are more down to earth.
The cast of characters isn't too large, and this allows you to be able to keep up with and find out more about each character than having a huge range of characters, making the story more immersive and a good read.
In conclusion, I think that this book is great and would highly recommend it to all sci-fi fans, it might not cater to everyone's tastes, but it does a good job of trying.
