First off I need to say that this is a very dangerous lesson for those who aren't well versed in the practice. This book is not for beginners. Only those who have had enough time in the field should pursue the journey within. Spiritual Alchemy is fascinating and entertaining and also includes some intriguing interviews with her spirit guides.

Whilst I may not subscribe to the same belief system as the authors of this book, I did find it highly interesting to read. Jenny Tyson shares some very personal experiences in this sort-of-memoir about her journey into the spiritual realm and all of the advice she received from John Dee and others once she began communicating with them.
There was a lot of detail in this book, including the positive and negative impact the author's journey had on her. She details each step of her progression and fills her readers in on the emotional toll these things took on her and her relationship with her husband.
If you are interested in unique spiritual experiences, this book will be one that you don't want to miss. I'm glad I had the opportunity to read this book, as it made me think a lot about what we see everyday, and what lies beneath the surface.

This is a semi-biographical book, in which the author shares her story about how she changed her life using scrying and communication with spirits specifically Dr. Dee and Edward Kelley. I found the process of her work to be fascinating, and I liked that she shared her story alongside presenting the techniques she learned as a result of doing the work. If you're interested in spirit communication, this is a useful guide to read.
Jenny Tyson does a fairly decent job of recording her spiritual travel here. It really feels like a magicians' personal journal that was cleaned up a bit and printed. This is a manuscript that would never have had a chance of being accepted by a major publishing house or printed unless its author had a very close relationship with an already established occult writer. That's not to say that the writing is bad or that the events aren't interesting, but this is a very niche item, and few people are going to purchase this. What it comes down to is a Magicians diary, and it's not really even a great one. It does have it's interesting points though - Jenny shows us her progression from novice medium and having to work with external devices to a medium with clairaudience ability. She progresses in her belief paradigm which was also well narrated. And there are some good ideas for those wanting to have a similar type of spirit conversation and initiation. At the end of the day Jenny's voyage is an internal one however, and therefore very few Magicians or even general Pagans are going to find much here to sink their teeth into. Much of what she discovers fits into the box of Judeo-Xtian mythology and the work of Dr. Dee which is really meaningless outside of it. Magicians or Pagans working outside of the Xtian paradigm may find a nice quote or two, or a tool of interest to incorporate into their practice, but again this is one woman's Internal work on display and may not work well or even at all for others.

The book is a yearlong journey Jenny took to connect and explore spiritual alchemy. It was her desire to learn about Enochian spirituality and contact John Dee. Although she connected with Dee, she began working with Edward Kelley. He became her mentor. She discusses using a spirit board to contact with Dee. The author also used radio frequencies and a ghost box to receive messages from the spirits. She consulted with angels and human spirits. There are log entries detailing her interactions with Dee, David Blackburn, a healer, and others. She hopes the log entries can help others work with spirits.
There are explanations of heart surgery but not traditional. A homunculus is placed in her heart to help her heal. Donald Tyson includes several interviews with Edward Kelley. She goes into detail of her harrowing initiation with the angel Gabriel and the fear of losing her husband. She compares her experience of death and rebirth to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. After the ritual Edward Kelley has Jenny describe the gates she passed through during the initiation.
In the second part of the book, she gives advice on several topics. On the topic of circles, she does not recommend using them. This goes against everything I have learned. There are tips on using a ghost box, analyzing sounds, and scrying. She also includes the stages in psychic development. The book ends with conversations between Jenny and Edward Kelley. This is a great reference book for anyone looking for deeper connection with scrying and other forms of spiritual communication.
This book was very captivating. I was particularly interested in Jenny's views on our universal parents, religion, angels and even negative entities. I had no intention of getting this book, but it found it's way to me, or me to it. It was something I really needed during a troubling time while I travel my own spiritual path. It helped me open my mind's eye to the possibility that the universe, beyond myself, isn't as scary as everyone makes it out to be. That is what ultimately holds me back. Thanks Jenny for a very insightful book. It's a keeper!
