Photograghs of flowers here are set against a black background to make the uniqueness of each blossom stand out. A gorgeous romp for the senses, respite from drugery. One reviewer said "Mapplethrope meets O'Keefe" and it's true that both those artists come immediately to mind. But seeing the plants in this way makes one realize that everything is derivative after their own uniqueness.
Wow! Not only are the photos in this book incredible, but the accompanying text did much to increase my understanding and appreciation of the images contained within. As I continue to grow as a photographer, I will look to Christopher Beane as an inspiration and true genius in the art of floral photography.
Christopher Beane is tour-de-force photographer of flowers. From beautiful to whimsical, from frightening to eerie, his photos show these plants in all stages of their all-too-fleeting existence. The descriptive and informative text by Anthony Janson not only gives us some insight into the work and struggles of the photographer, but also points out nuances in the photos that might otherwise be easily overlooked by the viewer.
these are the only contemporary photographs of flowers that have truly taken away my breath. They are AMAZING and I want them for my walls. SERIOUSLY. SO BEAUTIFUL.
as an added bonus, looking at the book with my 2 yr old was a great memory in the making. Most he thought were jellyfish or something else at the aquarium.
