Well, I can see why 16 year-old Rachel loved this book, but 10 years later, I'm not impressed. It's your typical cheesy Christian romance...very simple, sweet, and clean. But all the drama came from simple misunderstandings; if the characters had just communicated, there would have been zero plot. So that was frustrating and made me annoyed the whole time reading it. Especially now being in a healthy relationship with good communication; communication makes all the difference! Haha. But I guess for a Christian romance, it wasn't too bad. Let's just say, I'm removing if from my "favorites" list...
Having just read Kansas Brides by Denise Hunter, I was intrigued by the similarities with this book when I saw it on the shelf at the library. As with the other book, I enjoyed the format of 4 separate, but related stories, and the Kansas setting.
I picked this book up at my local book sale. Sometimes I'm in the mood for a good love story so I picked it up in anticipation of that.
I didn't realize it was four books in one so that was a pleasant surprise when I started. I also didn't realize the characters were all connected which was an even better surprise when I get started.
I think the first story was my least favorite and was a little bit hokey in parts. Sometimes romantic Christian fiction can be that way, but I think in this case, it was the author finding her groove. She got better and better as the stories went, and I truly enjoyed the book.
Since they're all connected, it's been like reading about friends for the better part of a month for me! I'm going to miss these characters!
Fun, simple stories with happy endings. I like the novella sets that take you through several generations of a family.
📚my ratings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐: Loved it. Couldn't put it down. I will probably read it again and it has a place in my library. ⭐⭐⭐⭐: Enjoyed it. Good characters, great story. if nonfiction, great information, interesting topic. ⭐⭐⭐: Liked it. Glad I read it, but probably won't read again. ⭐⭐: okay, I won't read it again, it will not be kept for my library. ⭐: I didn't like it, don't recommend it.
Four short novels ( averaging 120 pages) telling the story of four very different women connected to one pioneering Kansas family. Engaging, with faith as the background and romance with all its preconceptions and miscommunications in the fore. My sister in law Eva Hill Adkins Burke gave this book to me and it has been sitting on my shelf, what, 15 years.
Great start to a wonderful series. This is my second time through. Ms. Bateman is on my favorite author's list for sure. Haven't read one of her books I didn't love. I very much enjoyed Cassidy and Dell's story. Her characters with heart and spunk and real life flaws endear themselves to the reader quickly.
Enjoyed the stories of the four Kansas women. Grabbed my attention from the beginning and I finished rather quickly. Easy read - not too deep - the perfect vacation book.

These four stories of women of the St. John family through a couple of generations is heart-warming, wholesome fiction. I'm not always as interested in historical fiction as I am contemporary, but the first story drew me in, and then I wanted to know more about this family. They are all quick reads. I just wished I picked them up sooner.
I love books like this. It takes place in 1800's and its four separate stories but each have a common link to each other. I like that it is faith based.
Really enjoyed the book. It's four short interelated stories that are romance/inspirational. Lifted my spirits and helped to focus my life more on God.
