Pretty good read, a little sappy and outdated.

I didn’t come here for good writing. I came for cheesy romance and a bit of faith. Not the worst I’ve read.

Absolute garbage writing.
Whoever the editor was, should be fired.
WHO RELEASES THIS CRAP, ANYHOW?!?!?!?!

So Lori Harper is a 'good' woman who somehow married to a drug dealer. He just got out of prison a year ago, but they have a five year old together, so... she's been with him thru YEARS of dealing/doing drugs, and she claims she knows nothing about it. ?!!??!?!?!!? He drives off a road (allegedly stoned out of his mind) and into a bog, where he drowns. Which makes NO sense to her - how could that happen???? Just... driving off a road, like that?

She's knocked up, alone, living in a ratty mobile home in the middle of nowhere with no money, no car, no job, and no life insurance/medical. HOW is this even possible??? FOR TEN MONTHS - the electricity would've been shut off ages ago, there'd be no heat/propane if there's no money...!!!!

Carrie was the chick who delivered the bad news of Gary's death. She was nice, like a friend, advocated for Lori... but as the book begins, Carrie is all, "I hate life, I hate my job, I hate everyone and everything - because I have to go visit Lori and bring her a goodwill donation of cash."

WHAT. THE. ACTUAL. FARTS?!?!?!

Mike is driving Carrie out there, because he's self-proclaimedly 'too dumb' to do more than drive a truck. But then we're told he's also "in real estate". Which is actually him co-managing rental properties with his mommy? I... can't even. NONE of this makes sense. It's disjointed, stilted, horrible, and worse.

The blurb on the back says Lori's gonna have a baby, and Mike shows up at the perfect time to help her. It sounded intriguing as a storyline... but that's not THIS story. Noooo... Carrie shows up in time. Mike just drives her there. And he doesn't even deliver the baby - they drive her out to meet an ambulance, which drives her to a hospital where she delivers the baby.

Mike announces that Lori can live at the 'fussiest' of the rental properties his mom and he have. WHY did he wait TEN MONTHS before offering, knowing a widow and small child with no money shit on by some meth-head was suffering, again?!?!? And how can THEY afford that!?

And the writing is absolutely abysmal. Some of the worst I've ever read. This woman should NEVER have been published. Some examples:

*** "You only hate the fact that it's winter, it's cold, and you've got to go out in the middle of nowhere and remind some woman she's a widow." "Like it's going to be a surprise to her, I'll bet." !??!?! I... got nuthin'.

*** ..."He'd long ago counted himself among the other part of the population because he would have given his well-muscled right arm to be about to do what the woman sitting beside him did." HIS WELL-MUSCLED RIGHT ARM?!?!?! Who talks about their body parts like that!!!!??? GAH!!!!!

*** "I think she looks like a peanut... Look at her, all wrapped in a blanket... no arms, no legs, just a cute little face and..." Tyler chortled as he put a finger to his sisters' fist. "Look Mama, she's holding on already!" JUST A SECOND AGO, THE ARMS WERE BUNDLED IN A BLANKET - NOW THE BABY'S FINGERS ARE AROUND THE KIDS'??????? What is that?!?!?!?

B.A.D. W.R.I.T.I.N.G!!!!!!!

I'm out. No, really, done. DNF @pg37, and throwing this away.
It should *never* have been published. It's trash.

I've been in the mood for touching, wholesome stories of love and faith recently. This author fit the bill. I cried through the last 3 chapters. Ahh. I feel much better inside. I needed that.

In “Looking for Miracles”, a kindhearted EMT/firefighter named Mike Martin is called on to nearly deliver a baby. Lori Harper is destitute: she’s recently widowed with a new mouth to feed and a young son to raise, and she lives in a small single-wide trailer on the outskirts of a small town. Mike meets Lori while delivering gifts to the needy as part of a church outreach program, and she goes into labor.

I didn’t really warm to this book. The characters were nice, but Lori had “white trash trailer park” written all over her. I sincerely doubt that many men would find her appealing. Also, everything good happens to Lori: she’s instantly given a place to stay, a job, and necessities for her and the new baby. This isn’t remotely realistic.

Her late husband is suspected of dealing and making meth, and this subplot is fairly interesting since it involves a local politician. Overall, though, the characters were bland and uninspiring.

Looking for Miracles grabbed my attention from the very beginning. I loved the characters, the sweet story line, and I am always a sucker for a Christmas setting.
Of course there is insta-love, but hey, this is Harlequin. Note to self: Get over it. It would be like reading a fairytale and then getting **** off at the'happily ever after' ending.
The problem is in the ending. The book was good and then all of a sudden... the story shifted, things got rushed and the author packed up and went home.

Way above average tale of Christian faith in action despite adversity in the telling of a tale of two regular people who realize heroic things through their faith and each other.
