A BOOK OF ONE OF THE EARLY ‘ANCIENT ASTRONAUTS THEORISTS’
Author Robert Charroux (pen-name of Robert Joseph Grugea) wrote in the Preface to this 1971 book, “There is a pyramid as big as a cathedral … in … France. The radiant rock of Ylo…. Peru, bears an indecipherable inscription which, according to tradition, tells how to reach the entrance to the ‘Ancient Lost World.’ An explorer in the Brazilian wilderness found an electric lamp, composed of a column surmounted by a sphere, that had been shining since time immemorial. A hundred thousand years ago, our Superior Ancestors successfully performed heart transplants. Proof of this is in the University of Leningrad. Soviet scientists have just discovered the second half of the Philosophers’s Stone and are already making the mother water of immortality. These revelations and a score of others like them make up the strange and mysterious content of this book---the content that you expect. Whenever possible, the assertions are supported by photographs. In short, it is unlikely that the book will disappoint you in the parts devoted to forgotten continents, archaeology, the bizarre, and the Mysterious Unknown.” (Pg. xiii-xiv)
He continues, “In this book, initiation and the Mysterious Unknown are treated more in depth than in my previous works. I have made a greater effort to eliminate superstitions and blind, deceptive beliefs. Here, too, I may offend a few readers devoted to loose and easy ways of thinking, but the initiation I am proposing is not meant for the great majority, or to be pleasing and reassuring.. It is meant only as a means of seeking knowledge … Ultimately, the tragic history of civilizations has always been characterized by a long struggle between two great human breeds: the oppressors and the oppressed, the evil, always victorious, and the good, always vanquished. Perhaps the initiate belongs to a third breed. This is only a supposition, however; the truth must be sought, but woe to him who finds it.” (Pg. xv-xvi)
He begins the first chapter with the statement, “When people discover unusual things on their planet, such as drawings or writing that they can neither date nor decipher, they are invariably tempted to ascribe them to unknown and sometimes even extraterrestrial civilizations. Furthermore, these mysteries are always regarded as having the nature of a message. On two hills called Gog and Magog, near Cambridge, England, one can see from an airplane immense drawing that escape observation on the ground… In the United States there are earthen embankments shaped to represent enormous snakes, the work of a mysterious people. These symbols seem to have been intended for observers coming from the sky or capable of rising above the earth, either in machines or by power of their astral bodies.” (Pg. 5)
He notes, “It is hard to believe that the sparse, poverty-stricken, and primitive population of southern Peru could have conceived the Nazca designs, whether they be regarded as a page of writing or an astronomical table. The plan of the designs does not seem to belong to the imagination of earthlings. Earthlings may have done the physical work, but it seems to me that the concept must have come from the brain that was alien to our planet.” (Pg. 18-19)
He states, “It is not my intention to forge a wondrous prehistory, but to adapt my theories to the laws of reason, the scientific rules of discovery, existing evidence and documents, plausibility, and the data of the traditional heritage. This reasonable line of approach leads not to the conclusion that our ancestors were apes, but that they were superior men.” (Pg. 41)
He asserts, “the Atlanteans and the Hyperboreans were our direct ancestors, the magicians of a civilization of electrical forces, controlled waves and nuclear energy. If they made disastrous discoveries, we have an explanation for the punishment of the Deluge, the loos of the ‘earthly paradise’ and the chain or deteriorated but long-lived traditions that have come down to us. We also have an explanation of initiation, the vestiges of unknown civilizations that have so far left us perplexed, and the scientific inventions and ideas of the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Hindus, Incas, and Mexicans. We have no right to exclude this thesis from the search for out genesis, because it alone leads to the fantastic past and no doubt to the truth.” (Pg. 47)
He says, “I give Atlantis primacy over Mu. The vanguard of civilization before the Deluge was certainly not at Ponape or Easter Island, for what remains at Tiahuanaco (Bolivia), Venta (Yucatan), and in Egypt is incomparably superior on every level of culture, thought, and architecture.” (Pg. 129)
He states, “Even while we accept the hypothesis of extraterrestrial intervention, which connects the history of Easter Island with the mythologies of the world, we may still assume that the island was colonized by pre-Incan navigators from Peru, as Thor Heyerdahl has written. But, with equally good reasons, certain advanced archaeologists believe that Easter Island was a dependency of Mu before the Deluge.” (Pg. 141)
He says, “To sum up, part of person’s self remains bound up with the earthly cycle of his constituent elements, while at death another part, the soul, seems to change orbit like the singular particles of the atom, to rejoin the double of the self that already resides in another universe, parallel or total.” (Pg. 188)
He argues, “Analysis of what is claimed to be a betrayal shows that events were wrongly reported by the Evangelists. Since Jesus had worked no miracles and had passed unnoticed in the history of Judea, he was unknown to Pontius Pilate, who consequently had no reason to arrest him… Jesus was unknown to the police, but the Jewish priests were acquainted with his revolutionary ideas… it was the chief priest and elders who accused him of being a blasphemer, which was no doubt true from their point of view…. But… the primary initiate was Judas. Without him, Jesus would not have existed in history... But a revelation in the Dead Sea Scrolls throws convincing light on the pseudo-traitor of the Gospels… But this view implies that Judas did not exist and that his story was invented.” (Pg. 256-257)
He concludes, “We do not know what UFOs are, but on the hypothesis that the universe is a vast living organism and that each planet is a part of that organism, we may assume that man had a great and unknown function, perhaps similar to that of DNA, the MESSANGER of cellular life. Our mission is no doubt to go some day to the stars, just as the mission of other intelligent beings in the cosmos is to come to our planet to bring new germs of life and a beneficial hybridization… Soon, perhaps, a real scientist, whether he be an astrophysicist, a chemist, or a great initiate, will find the golden key what will enable us to give a convincing meaning to those messages or messengers that we cannot now decipher or see because the time has not yet come.” (Pg. 354)
This book may appeal to those who are interested in ‘Ancient Astronauts’ and ‘Ancient Mysteries.’
