An empowering and topical guide for parents on the health effects of screen time Screens and digital devices are everywhere in our modern world and it's becoming increasingly common for even very young children to regularly use tablets and smart phones. Many parents struggle to know what's best for their children. This book offers a comprehensive overview of the pros and cons, to help parents make their own choices. It explores the health effects of screen time as well as the benefits of new technology. Much writing on this subject is one-sided and dogmatic. This thought-provoking book is not designed to make parents feel guilty, but to empower them to find their own balance.
When I picked up this book I was hoping to find some guidance of how to manage screen time for my children. While there were some interesting points I found a lot of it to be rather common sense. I appreciate the message the book is trying to send, but I didn't find it particularly enlightening or helpful in how to manage screen time.
80-90% of this book is making the argument against overuse of screens. It was preaching to the converted. I was already on board when I picked up the book. Perhaps the title should have been Why You Should Manage Screen Time, or similar. I had to re read the odd paragraph as some of the wording was unnecessarily convoluted. There is one scant chapter at the end which is practical, but perhaps you are like me already taking the commonsense approach.
OK, so maybe this is a good resource for the folks out there who have never heard of what "the internet" is or aren't aware that there was an industrial revolution 200ish years ago, but it was nearly useless to me. I read it in about 20 minutes and found that it was pretty lacking.
