Victoria and Dorian don't have your normal love affair. They are kind of thrown at each other, but by different fates. Victoria and her little sister just lost everything they have and have to go and live with their nasty aunt. This aunt then tells Victoria she has one month to find a husband or she will never see her sister again. Really who does that to family? Dorian is in London to get the witches away from his clan. As far as he knows it is working. He's been there for quite awhile and seems to have gotten a lady's man reputation. One that Victoria has already been warned about. He feels a pull he just can't explain or ignore, he has to have her. And have her he will. After being caught kissing Dorian by her aunt, Victoria is kicked out of the house and with no where else to go she turns to Dorian. Their story continues with their fantastic chemistry, their stories, secrets and anything they are willing to share with each other. Seems as though Dorian has found his mate in Victoria, but will she accept her now life or will she run? I really loved this book and couldn't put it down.
Caressed by Night
If you enjoyed the first book like I did, I'm pretty sure you liked this one too. Dimitri and Kerstyn have a chemistry that they can't fight for too long. Dimitri, believed to have been dead for 400 years, decides to join society once again, in Las Vegas. Here because this is where the Shaw told him his mate was. Being one of the four original vampires makes him very powerful. He had run into the same situation as Dorian did, in that someone wanted to be king and would do anything to get there. Little did these men know that that isn't how it worked. He chose to let Ven believe he was dead, now he is back to claim his thrown. As you probably figured out by the first book, in order for the rightful kind to claim the throne, they had to find their mates. So far, Dorian has and now it is Dimtri's turn. Just getting Kerstyn on board might be a challenge. Only because Dimitri can see glimpses of the future and what he sees he can't stop. Kerstyn is 26, living with her best friend and living her life. Only she feels something is missing, but doesn't know exactly what that is. Until her something missing saves her from being jumped in an alley. Not only does this happen, but her roommate/best friend kicks her out when she gets home. Sylvie (a shaw witch) is there to help and brings her to a friends that is looking for a roommate. And of all people that open the door, Dimitri. How Kerstyn's luck is changing yeah? you really can't go into too much detail with these without giving too much away. I can say I loved it, loved how the stories from book one and this one kept going and giving you pieces of what is to come. I will also say that with any story the characters have their secrets. I mean Kerstyn has to come to terms she is falling in love with a vampire of all things, and he is way older than her, and he is very very powerful. Caressed by a Crimson Moon
Hadrian and Eva have a little more of a complicated story. They have to overcome their own fears of feeling like they are not good enough for anyone. Both very broken souls have to join together for the sake of the future. Again, if you read the first two books I think it is safe to say that Sylvie has had a lot to do with what is going on with the vampire clans. Getting them their kings back, working on ways to get rid of the Red Order, and trying to find peace between the witches and the vampires. This book sheds a little more light onto who Sylvie really is and what role she has to play, whether she wants it or not. You also get to know Falcon, Hadrian's right hand man, a little better. His loyalty might just drive him crazy. He is the first one to figure out that there is something more between Eva and Hadrian, but is reluctant to let it play out. Only because Hadrian had isolated himself for over 300 years and has a very dark side to himself. He was not turned normally, he actually consumed the soul of his maker and has a constant reminder of the horrible person he was. This is one of the things Eva seems to calm in him. Whenever she is around he gets some quiet. Eva is a rare shifter, one who doesn't actually know what her other half is. She was always told it was human, but not so much. When her mother died she was taken by her father's pack and made to live like a servant for 10 years. She is given to Hadrian as part of a contract. Never did she think she could actually have feelings for someone like that. She heard the stories and wanted nothing to do with him. Until he gets close, then her body betrays her. Again, can't give too much detail, but as I said theirs is a more complicated story. They both need to overcome their own insecurities and learn to trust each other. Hadrian and Eva both know there is something more, but neither wants to admit it. When Eva goes through her transition they both have a lot to accept whether they want to or not. They both think that going their own ways will be better, but will it? You know after reading this book that there is much more to this story to come and I can't wait.
Being currently on a box set/anthology bender, I thought I’d give Amanda J Greene’s ‘Rulers of Darkness’ a little attention. It promised to offer some much loved dark and lusty vampire fare - Vampire kings, dark knights, wicked witches, and fair maidens destined to fall into their fateful clutches.
I have to confess, for my taste, these three books smacked a little too ‘Mills & Boon’ for a ripping vampire yarn. - Am I showing my age? Should that be ‘Harlequin’ I should have said there? Anyway you get the picture… - Shades of Pemberley littered the first chapters of the first instalment ‘Caressed by Moonlight’ where our hapless heroine, Victoria, falls under the dark and dangerous Dorian’s spell. Not until they are heading back to his homeland does the vampire lurking beneath Dorian’s lusty but trustworthy (I’m not really sure these descriptions really go hand in hand but, oh well) demeanour revealing his dark and hungry nature.
Book two ‘Caressed by Night’ had our darling, virginal-at-26 heroine, Kerstyn Ingmar, who just happens to live in Vegas and sometimes frequents clubs, but still can’t get past the third date with any man (honestly, third date! Vegas! Clubs! Men! Virginal? Really?). I know, I know the Madonna complex still rules in the romance world apparently) meeting the only surviving of the original Vampire Kings, the dark, powerful, and tormented Dimitri Arsov, and becomes unwittingly involved in his plans to exact his revenge on an enemy who had many years previous tried to kill him and usurp his rule.
Caressed by a Crimson Moon’s recently returned to sanity, (but not really - that damned demon kept wanting to rear its foul and dangerously murderous, ugly head) King Hadrian has many deep and dark secrets that only his ward Eva Maldonado can seem to quieten. Inexplicably drawn together, this couple instantly burned with an undeniable passion for each other that threatened to send both of them over the edge.
There was enough pain, guilt, murder, intrigue, manipulation, lust, desire, tension, sex, fate ,love; tormented heroes and determined (although virginal – did I mention that?) heroines to sate any appetite, I could forgive the fact that the books suffered from both a lack of editing and some obvious formatting issues. The attempt in book one to create the formality of 1815’s London fell a little flat when casual colloquialism invaded some of the dialogue and characters' contemplation, and then appeared to be completely abandoned (apart from a few jarring patches of dialogue) further through the book – but I applaud the effort, I’m sure it’s not an easy thing to maintain flowery elocution when you no longer live with it all around you.
Written in third person - which is my usual preference - these books had the reader exposed to multiple points of view within each chapter, within each paragraph even. I’m not sure whether I felt this detracted from the narrative or not because it gave almost instant access to the thoughts of the various characters in question at any given time, but I think it did beggar the mystery and tension that that lack of knowledge can often create in a reader.
Despite these niggles I did enjoy these rollicking yarns spun by Amanda and look forward to reading ‘Caressed by Shadows’ book four of the Rulers of Darkness series.
When I first started this series I was hoping not to be disappointed because this first book took place over 200 years ago which usually doesn't hold my interest but within the first couple chapters of Caressed by Moonlight I was so caught up in the vampire world I didn't care what century it was. Prince Dorian has run from his home to London to force the people trying to destroy him to leave his home. Poor Victoria has lost her family home after her parents passed and she and her sister Margaret are forced to beg Aunt Nelly to take them in but the condition is that in a month Victoria must be married. As Victoria sets out to find a husband she is attacked and is saved by Dorian. Dorian is convinced she is his mate and when Victoria is thrown out of her aunts house she has nowhere to turn to so she goes to Dorian and he agrees to marry her. The adventure for the two of them is intense as they become closer to each other. Caressed by Night takes place modern day and this book keeps you on your toes. Dimitri is the last remaining pure vampire but for the past four hundred years he has let everyone think he is dead. He saw a vision of his death and rather than have a quick fight he needed to make sure he could stop all of the traitors not just one. His fight leads him to Las Vegas and his friend Gabriel where he slowly reveals his existence to a few people. Kerstyn cannot find a job and her car has died so when she gets home and her roommate Denise says her boyfriend claimed Kerstyn was hitting on him, Denise threw her out. Kerstyn called her friend Silvie and she found her a place to live in Dimitri's huge house. Dimitri won't let her pay rent and he lets her use his car but when he saw her he knew she would be his mate but that the Fates may take her away from him. Kerstyn finds out exactly what Dimitri is and she is not put off by him, in fact she is hoping he is not put off by her. As the threat of his enemy comes closer so do he and Kerstyn as they begin to fall more and more in love. Will the fates take her from him or will he be able to fight his enemy and his own demon? Caressed by the Crimson moon finds poor Eva a halfbreed being given to the vampire clan as a peace offering even though a pure breed is what was supposed to go but her father the king said if she survived he would bring his daughter to the ball in exchange. Hadrian has hidden himself for 350 years letting everyone think he is the crazy King. He is hunted by his demons but somehow Eva manages to see past that and she is very attracted to him. When she accidentally cuts herself Hadrian smells something different about her he realizes she is half witch and half shifter. When the high priestess comes to him to warn him of her shifter change and how to help her he doesn't know if he has the willpower. Can Eva survive the change? Will Hadrian help her. This series can be read as a standalone but you can't help but appreciate how they all intertwine. Reviewed on behalf of Once upon an Alpha
Caressed by Moonlight In the first book of the series, we are introduced to Dorian's world in which he has left his clan in order save them, by drawing the Red Order Hunters to him. Victoria is penniless due to her father's debts, and is trying to find a way to keep her younger sister with her, which means getting married within a month. Circumstances - and Victoria's best friend Lana - throw Dorian and Victoria together.
A well written introduction to this world, although there are some editing issues that were noticeable, but in no way detracted from my enjoyment of this novel. A good start to a series I look forward to continuing.
Caressed by Night Dimitri has long been thought to be dead, but as you find out, he had his reasons for what he did. He moves to Vegas, knowing that things will be coming to a head soon. He doesn't realise (to begin with) that he will find his mate and she will be put at risk by his plans.
This world is very fast-paced, with insta-love, but the females are strong-willed and sassy whilst the vampires are completely Alpha. I loved seeing Dorian and Victoria again in their cameo appearances.
Well written, with the same editing issues as before, but this does not detract from the story. Very enjoyable.
Caressed by a Crimson Moon Hadrian was so very close the edge - in more ways than one. Falcon was able to bring him back, along with help from Dimitri's letter. One of the things he decides to finally put into action, is the alliance with one of the shifter packs. The Alpha doesn't want to send his precious full-blood daughter, so he sends his half-breed instead. This could be construed as an insult, but it is exactly what Hadrian expected to happen. However, things aren't as straight forward as he might be expecting, when it appears that Eva is his mate, and not just any half-breed at that.
A wonderful addition to this series, continuing in this well-written and described world. There is still so much more to come, I'm sure. Definitely recommended.
>This box set contains the first 3 books in the Rulers of Darkness series. Each story revolves around a particular vampire and ends in an HEA. The stories continue in following books, so the books must be read in order. Book one is “Caressed by Moonlight” and is the story of Victoria, a human, and Dorian, a vampire. Dorian is a rake who is attracted to Victoria, marrying her to save her and her sister from her horrible aunt. There is a lot of eroticism and explanation about vampires and their habits. Dorian has an interesting backstory.
>Book two is “Caressed by Night”. This story is about Dimitri, the oldest and most powerful vampire, and Kerstyn. Dimitri can see the future. He knows he is Kerstyn’s mate, but also that she will die. Gabriel is introduced in this book. His back story is horrific, causing him to hate humans. His care of Kerstyn is that much more poignant. I didn’t understand Dimitri’s wish to fight with equal power. That decision seemed out of character. The Shaw witch, Silvie has a large presence in this story as the head witch in training and friend to both Kerstyn and Victoria.
>Book three is called “Crimson Moon”. This story deals with a crazed vampire king, Hadrian and his shifter ward, Eva. Falcon is a character with a large role in this story. He tries to protect Eva from the lust filled king and is also the star of the next story, I believe. This book was romantic, but frustrating. Eva and Hadrian did not communicate well and were constantly unsure of one another throughout almost the entire story.
>The box set is a fun look into the world of vampire rulers and their mates. The level of eroticism is high, while the story line is interesting across the three stories. This series is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving the set 4 stars. The relationship stories were quite similar from book to book. There were also quite a few proofreader errors that distract the reader from the story.
Each has it's own feel to it, where some romance series make you feel like you are reading the same book over and over, only with different names attached to the characters; Amanda Greene has put together three very different stories - and yet they still work as a series.
A curse on the rulers of darkness is at the core of all three stories. Any vampire who becomes King of a clan will lose his immortal lifespan and die consumed by pain and madness unless he finds his mate. Only a rightful King has a mate, and there is only one.
Caressed by moonlight: A Regency story set in London featuring Dorian Vlakhos and Victoria Kingston. Dorian is a vampire King trying to draw his enemies away from his clan and it is definitely not the right time to fall in love with a human. Victoria is a young woman forced to find a suitable husband within a month, and while Dorian may be tempting he is anything but suitable.
Caressed by night: Set in current day Vegas, Dimitri Arsov - the last true vampire alive - is torn between vengeance and protecting his mate. After 400 years it is time for Dimitri to return to the vampire community who think him dead and reclaim his clan from a traitor. But he knows Kerstyn Ingmar is his mate and he is plagued with visions of her impending death.
Caressed by a Crimson Moon: Hadrian Lucretius is a mad vampire King, his mind torn by the curse. Can love save him or is it already too late? Eva Maldonado is sent to Romania by her father, as part of a contract between his shifter pack and the vampire clan. But how will she survive in a castle haunted by a mad vampire?
I enjoyed all three books a lot, although better editing would do wonders for the reading experience; which is why I can only give them 4 stars.
These novels are jam packed with shocks and twists. They will have you immersed in the world Amanda J Greene has created. She really does a great job of setting the scene and giving the reader enough backstory about her world.
The characters are very well developed, complex, and multi dimensional which allows the reader to become invested.
Amanda J. Greene's writing style is very direct. There is no skirting around things.
I enjoyed the Romance aspect. These characters, in each novel had a connection that felt real. I liked the way she developed each one individually.
I loved this box set! It was so well done and sexy as sin. Definitely not recommended for less mature readers, but if you're not the type who giggles when someone brings up sex, this is a must read! The romance is steamy and the men are drop dead sexy while the women are gorgeous. I love the author's twist on vampires, their society and soul mates. It's unique and well constructed. The characters are also amazingly complex and relatable, despite the fact that half of them are thousands of years old and drink blood. I also love that the books each focused on different characters. Normally, I'm not a huge fan of switching characters between books because I fall for the original book's main characters, but this was so well-done and didn't detract from the overall plot of the series that I enjoyed it. The first book featuring Victoria and Dorian, however, was definitely my favorite because it combines my love for the paranormal with my love of 19th century England. This didn't mean I didn't also love every second of the next two books because I definitely did and I definitely felt for Hadrian and his struggles in the third book! The only problem I had with this book was there is still some minor editing that needs to be done, but it doesn't distract too much from the books. ***I WAS GIVEN A COPY OF THIS BOOK FOR FREE IN EXCHANGE FOR A FAIR AND HONEST REVIEW***
I love to read box sets of books, because I know I’m getting into a set of books and stories that will tie in to each other. This series contains three books that are all able to be read as standalones because each book is meets others from previous, or subsequent, stories. I’m too impatient to wait for book series to be continued so whenever I see a chance to snatch up a boxed set I jump on it.
The characters were written so well; the men are strong alpha males and each of the women are independent and fierce in their own way. I loved the chemistry between each of the couples. It’s so fun to read stories where the women don’t just fall at the feet of their men – well there were moments were they might have caved a little bit but what woman wouldn’t cave when a sexy, strong man wants to spend a little time with them in the bedroom? We were also given history into each of the men; I love any kind of vampire fiction (movies, tv shows, books) and this set was just added to my growing list of good reads.
I have never read any books by this author but I am impressed. There were a few grammatical errors but I don’t think those took too much from the story. I liked that the characters had time for their relationships to develop and the pacing of the stories were perfect – not too fast not too slow. All in all, I highly recommend.
This was such a brilliant box set! It furthered my love of alpha vampires and strong leading ladies.
I liked the storyline, in each of the books. I think it carried through well, and had enough supporting detail to feel natural and realistic. I liked the level of detail that was put into the events taking place. Even the smallest details were looked after, making the world and all the happenings very easy to become a part of.
The characters were excellent. I loved the vampires, especially with how dominant and sexy they were. I also loved that the females, while giving all to those they love, are not afraid to stand up against what they don't believe in, anything they feel isn't right and to protect those they love.
The pace of the reads was perfect. I liked that the steamier moments were given a slightly faster pace, to allow for it to feel hot, fast and really full on. I loved the way the steamy moments were written as it was easy to feel as though you were right there, in the moment, and it was hot.
Overall, this is a brilliant box set. I highly recommend grabbing the three reads as a lot because you will want to read them all!
**I received this book for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.
Rulers of Darkness is three Vampire romances with a fair amount of sex thrown for good measure. Caressed by Moonlight #1
The book is set in London 1814, and is the of the first vampire king Dorian to meet his long awaited mate Victoria. I really enjoyed this book it quickly introduces the reader London society, and Vampire law and dramas. Dorian marries Victoria to help her out as she destitute, and her awful aunt has her younger sister. This is an enjoyable romance that leads nicely into the second book. Caressed by Night #2
This is the story Dimitri and Kerstyn and set in modern day Las Vegas. Dimitri had faked his own death, but has to come out hiding as he needs help finding and keeping his mate alive. This was another read that is very hot and sexy and with drama continuing in vampire community as a whole, and setting the scenes for other adventures. Caressed by a Crimson Moon #3
This is the third and final book of the trio. This is the mad King Hadrian’s story and how he met his Queen Eva, and won back his clan. In this book you really begin to understand some of the other supernatural races. As well as other characters ready for their own book. A good collection of romances for lovers of the Paranormal. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I have really enjoyed reading this boxed set. I loved how all the females in this series are very strong and independent. Even though they have these big Alpha vampires protecting them they are still willing to put themselves in the line of danger to protect the ones they love. My favorite couple would have to be Dimitri and Kerstyn. Their story just made me smile the whole time I was reading it. Dimitiri was so loving and patient with Kerstyn, willing to give her time to come to know him and care for him before he dropped the bomb that she is his mate. Each book is very different but they all were absolutely wonderful. I absolutely fell in love with all the characters and really hope we see more of Gabriel and Gannon in future books!
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loved a good paranormal romance. I am going to go and purchase book #4 right now, I just can't seem to get enough of this series!
I received an eARC of this set compliments of the publisher in exchange for my honest review and opinion. All ratings and opinions stated are my own.
in the beginning there was the 4 original vampires , 3 of these went on to sire fledglings , young vampires that belong to the king vampire that sired them . to keep the vampires under control the witches cursed the kings to descend into madness unless they find their mate . the vampires have codes & laws that protect humans even going so far as to have knights that uphold these laws & punish any vampire that breaks them , falcon is one of these black knights & is also one of my fav characters . the vampires are hunted by the red order who would love to see the vampires destroyed but not all the red order are the same .i love the little twist at the end of each book , you can't help but empathise with the characters the author really brings them to life , paranormal , mystery & love with even a little bit of history thrown in these books have it all , i loved them
Amanda J. Greene has done a great job with creating characters the reader will feel strongly about. Maybe not always a good kind of strong, but evoking emotion in the reader is good regardless.
This was a great compilation. We get a feel for the characters, the world, and the situations they are in, each novel builds upon the next.
The Romance and Heat she brings to the story are both very well done and it makes for some HOTT situations between these characters.
WOW!!! Too bad there isn't an option for more stars!
I like books with vampires, witches, shifters and such but this collection was beyond all of that. This collection of books is phenomenal! With every page you are drawn right into the story. You can feel, hear and see all. Emotions are plentiful from love to hate, despair to hope, death to life, lovers to enemies. It is all here.
This author has done a fantastic job of bringing the story to life. Three different stories but they all tie together. I hope there are more books to this series. The story wasn't quite finished yet. Great job, Amanda!!
*I was given a copy of this book for an honest review.
I REALLY have to be in the mood to read any vampire books because I've been so disappointed in the past. NOT THIS TIME! This is the best vamp series I've read since Twilight! Not only did I cruise through the first 3 I immediately dove into book 4 and can hardly wait for book 5! It threw me off at first because the first book starting the series is a historical read.......I wasn't expecting that! Don't let it throw you.....it's fantastic and needed. You do get brought into current times. I highly recommend this series! You won't be able to put it down!
So I was bored one night, browsing through my kindle store app and came across this. I can't believe it was only 99p! These books were completely brilliant. It was such a great book I hated when I had to put it down. Its a great story set away from all the modern technology of today. I love the Princes cockyness at the beginning and the way Victoria handles herself. This is the perfect supernatural, scary love story! Bravo to the author! Give it a read you won't be sorry!
I loved this series each book was better than the one before and each book was exciting and romantic and kept your attention i couldn't put the books down I read all three books in a matter of 2 days I highly recommend this series to every one who enjoys reading vampire romance books
The storyline is good. The editing is horrendous. I read the first book and have no interest in reading the second or third book. The editing is so poorly done, I don't want to struggle with trying to ignore the spelling, punctuation, and grammar errors.
I gave this a five star because I did like the story but I thought it was too drawer out at times and Hadrain sometimes came out as a Winer. He was a vampire warrior thousands of years old.His mate came out stronger then him sometimes. All in all I did enjoy the spoken hot sex scenes and he was sexy so I cannot wait for the next story.Mimi
I came across this series by accident. And loved it,each of the first three books were terrific. With love, list and the supernatural all together what more could you ask for.The storyline and the stories tying together are expertise in storytelling.
Every one of these warriors face darkness in a different way. But the way to light again is in a legend. They don't believe that they are worthy of a mate. It is something they will have to accept. And let go of the past to finally be able love and live again.
Love this book! From book 1 -3, I was hooked! I love all the stories and the characters. All of them are my favorite. Bad-ass and awesome characters! Amazing read!
The stories kept me interested and the books are good, but you can tell the author hates autocorrect spelling also. I swear you know she spelled things correctly and the computer corrected it wrong.lol.
