Most people would agree that we aren’t taught much about ‘wellness.’ And while there seems to be an increased awareness related to ‘fitness,’ more often than not we only think about ‘health’ or doctors when we’re sick. What’s left in the middle of those two extremes is a life-long struggle to stay healthy and productive in a world of mixed medical messages.
For the first time, Dr. Radha Gopalan, gifted heart transplant Cardiologist, Acupuncturist and Yoga Teacher, clears up the confusion around health, wellness, and illness. And he does it in a way that will change the way you think about yourself—and medicine—forever.
Dr. Gopalan merges his education and experience in both Eastern and Western medicine to look at health and wellness from a unique and powerful perspective and delivers not only concepts and philosophies that can change the way you think about health and wellness, but assesses the most common medical conditions that impact our world—from cancer and diabetes to heart disease, obesity, and chronic illnesses.
In Second Opinion, Dr. Gopalan will • how Eastern and Western medicine can work together for optimum health and wellness ? • how you can influence the outcome of your health—and disease ? • how the five levels of the H-I Triangle shape your personality, reactions, health, and ?happiness ? • how insurance and finances are affecting your healthcare ? • why some people who eat healthy, exercise, and lead a healthy lifestyle still have a heart ?attack ? • how being healthy has more to do with who you must be than what you must do ?
This book does an excellent job of pointing out how both Eastern and Western modalities of medicine fall short for treating the whole individual. It also introduces a third component called the "You Power", which is basically your motivation, or will power to affect change. When combining all three pieces Dr. Gopalan suggests that only in this way may we find our healthiest and most vibrant selves. While, some parts of the book feel repetitive, I feel that is precisely the point the author is attempting to get across. I plan to send this book to my mother in-law in the hopes that it can help her as I think it likely helped me.
I found this book through Robert Kiyosaki's podcasts, as Radha is his personal doctor and was featured in one of his audios.
A really interesting read, Dr. Radha Gopalan clearly describes the equation that links emotional, chemical and physiological imbalances, drawing a causal relationship among those three, with useful advice on how to prevent and/or overcome the eight deadliest diseases from both sides of the coin: Eastern Medicine and Western Medicine, showing that both practices are not mutually exclusive, but complementary to one another.
Western doctors sometimes believe that only they are right. That's why I wanted to read this book that tells us that Western medicine is very good since you are sick, but Eastern medicine is focused on preventing diseases.
In your health there are three protagonists, Western medicine, Eastern medicine and of course yourself.
Recommended by Robert Kiyosaki, and the book is good but not great, quite repetitive. Still, the idea of the book is excellent.
