Malinding is a small West African village, about 500 inhabitants, on the South bank of the River Gambia. This book introduces some of the main characters, sees them fall in and out of love, and watches newcomers settle into village life.Ed Edwards, widower, lonely, takes an impulse holiday and escapes Cheshire rain. He takes a package holiday to the Gambia. He samples village life, learns to eat like a real Gambian, gets involved with the local school, and, after a few unwise attempts, learns to love again. Travel with him and meet his friends, many of whom feature in other of the 'Malinding Village' books. This is the first book in the Malinding Village series, and many of the characters who play a small part in this story have greater roles in later books.
A reader asked for directions to Malinding and I had to point out that if she followed the route I described in the books she would get very wet but the crocodiles would benefit. Sorry, it's fiction, mostly ...
