Undercover Empath: Kindred Demon

Rate this book
Nineteen-year-old detective Rose Hansen has a secret. She can read a person's intentions by touching their hands and that's the least strange thing about her.

Only one person knows, her partner Jack.

At least that's what she believes until a handsome, shirtless stranger appears on her doorstep in small town Blush Valley, California. He leaves her an envelope, but not before articulating his disappointment in her for ignoring her powers. The contents send Rose on a path toward the supernatural, solving her parents' murders, and possibly even saving the world.

Aside from that, Rose and her partner have two important cases they're working. The first involves a missing child. The other is the death of a stripper. Once it is ruled a serial killing, a very hot FBI agent from L.A. shows up and is given lead. To make matters worse, he asks her to go undercover. As a stripper. And that is just the beginning of her troubles...

*My Thoughts*

Undercover Empath is the first part of a serial called Kindred Demon. The next installment releases in July according to the publisher. This is a very short story that crosses mystery and paranormal genres. The story does what it is supposed to. It lays the foundation and introduces the characters who will be at the forefront of the series. The main character is 19-year old Rose Hansen. Rose is a detective for the Blush Valley, California police force.

Undercover Empath: Archangel is volume 2 in the Undercover Empath serial. The series features 19-year old Rose Hansen who is the youngest Detective in the Blush Valley, CA police force having graduated from HS at the age of 14. What makes her stand out even more, is that she has the ability to read another persons intentions by touching them. When last we left Rose in Kindred Demon, she had agreed to go undercover as a stripper in order to catch a serial killer who has left 6 women brutally tortured and murdered. Rose agreed to work with FBI agent Vincent Mackay in order to stop the serial killer in his tracks on top of any other cases that happen to call for her, and partner Jack Fuller.

Undercover Empath: Kindred Demon by RaShelle Workman is a fantastic fantasy that had me up most of the night finishing the book. This book has everything and it gets you hooked! Lots of different mysteries to figure out. The handsome guy who keeps coming to her house leaving clues for her (and half dressed). The FBI guy that is attractive and kind but is hiding something that could be dangerous. Oh, and there is that serial killer possessed by a demon killing girls. Also, it is decided that Rose has to be bait and pose as a stripper! Rose has a gift, she can touch someone and feel their intentions. Creepy but handy as a cop. There is also a wicked Goddess on the loose as well, their town has gone to hell... An awesome book! This is why I stayed up until I finished it, I intended to read the first chapter and go to bed, HA! Great plot, characters and dialogue were excellent and witty. Lots of mystery and intrigue. Suspense mixed with just the right dose of comedy. Wonderful book, loved it. I received this book for a honest review from NetGalley and I am so glad I did.

*I received an advanced copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*

When I first heard about this book, RaShelle was pitching it as Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Bones and I knew immediately that I needed this book in my life. Especially since it's one of RaShelle's book, and I haven't been disappointed by one of them yet! It's certainly different from the books in her Blood and Snow world, but it's still a great read from RaShelle. I also love that it is different since it showcases just how diverse RaShelle is!

At first, I was unsure about Rose. She's nineteen years old and already a detective? She graduated high school at 14? I felt like she was going to be this arrogant young woman who gets into things that are way over her head because she's over-confidant and naïve. But honestly, I actually really liked Rose. She's just really smart and an overachiever and she doesn't let it get to her head. I think she's actually harder on herself than she should be and that makes her even more likable because she's very real. Even though this volume is on the shorter side, Rose still goes through quite a bit of character development and I can't wait to see more!

As far as the men go though, I'm not sure I trust any of them entirely. There's Jack, who seems like he has the best intentions. But it kind of annoyed me how much he calls Rose "babe." Also, if I thought something was wrong with one of my friends and they suddenly stopped responding to my text messages, I'd start calling them until I found out what was going on. Maybe he doesn't want to be the over-bearing ex? But I do have to say that he does look out for her and makes sure that she doesn't end up in bad situations where he can't be there to cover her. I'm also definitely not convinced that Vincent is a good guy either, since we know pretty much nothing about him except his intentions. So far they've been ok, but if he knows (somehow) about Rose's abilities he might be able to play them.

There are two cases going on at the same time, and even though the Deputy Chief tells Rose to only focus on her stripper case, I actually really liked that she's got a soft spot for children and helps Jack out with the missing child case anyway. While I really want to know what happened with BITA and Rose's parents, and not knowing what's going on with the strippers is going to drive me crazy (I NEED to know who the demon is possessing) it was nice to have an open-and-closed case. It really made this book feel like an episode of Buffy - there's a "monster of the week," but there's also something bigger going on that affects the characters and the rest of the plot. RaShelle incorporated both cases very well, and they helped to move things along better than I think just one case would have.

I have so many questions now, about Rose and her parents and what in the world is going on with the paranormal.supernatural side of things, so I'm really excited about the next installment in this series! I'd definitely recommend Undercover Empath to anyone looking for a new, exciting supernatural/paranormal series, especially if you're a fan of Buffy and/or Bones. I really think this series is going to be just as great as all of RaShelle's other books, and I can't wait for more! 4/5.

Undercover Empath: Kindred Demon is the first book in the New Adult paranormal series, Undercover Empath. I really like how well the covers of the series go together. They are almost identical but in different colors. And they are each really pretty. It follows detective Rose Hansen who can determine anyone's intentions with the slightest brush of her hand. It is a gift that Rose shies away from, but it is really useful in her chosen profession. I really enjoyed Kindred Demon. It is a super quick read, but I thought Rashelle Workman did a really good job with the paranormal elements in the story. They were very upfront and in your face. I also really liked the mystery surrounding Rose's parents and the bio facility that I am sure is going to play a much larger role in future books.

Romance was not really in the forefront of this book. It was focused more on introducing the world and characters, and surprisingly, I was ok with that. because I could see some of the inklings of where the romance is going to go in the future and it made me very happy. I also think he is going to play a bigger role. There is more to meets the eye with him. I have a couple of ideas, but they each pretty different so who knows.

Undercover Empath: Kindred Demon is a super quick read. Almost too quick. My main drawback with the story was that I wished it was a little more fleshed out. Don't get me wrong, there will be plenty of time for more character and plot development in future books, but I felt like this installment just flew by and there could have been a little more. Each book so far has been about 100 pages, so maybe they are more like longer novellas or serials. I was expecting full length novels, which is probably why it felt short to me. The second book is already out so I can get my instant gratification and find out what happens next, which is a big plus in my book, but the summary is the same as the first book. I think that should be redone, it was pretty confusing to me. I am really interested in following this story. I love Rose, I hope the romance turns out the way that I want and I can't wait to see what surprises Rashelle has in store for us next.

2.5 crowns.

Rose Hansen has the ability to read a person's intentions through contact through the hands, which has led her to lead a fairly difficult life. However, she decided to use it to her advantage and become a homicide detective. When a strange individual comes to her and gives her a lead to something that would open many doors, a homicide occurs.

A very interesting concept, there are supernatural elements with vampires and others who have 'abilities' but there is very little world building. There are a lot of moments of chatting back and forth or detailing a non-essential scene when there should have been more detail of the world elements. I think that is one of my bigger complaints, I can tell that the author knows how to write because we are detailing some nonessential scenes fairly well, but when the scene calls for more [or rather interactions call for more depth,] it remains fairly shallow.

The plot itself is very loose, in that while there is a homicide case open they decide to put Rose undercover as a stripper no less. The whole set up of before the 'big show' is distracting from the actual story, especially since a new higher up comes onto the scene and takes her shopping to an adult store to buy her outfit. She is expected to 'put a show' on for him. She states how uncomfortable this makes her and refuses, but the work environment is so toxic and demeaning that they laugh, hoot and proceed to make more derogatory comments about wanting to see her strut her stuff.

We then see Rose go to classes to perfect her stripper abilities...

I'm all for sexy scenes, even some workplace drama or even prejudice for the sake of a story, but this is outright piggish and makes it unbelievable. The characters themselves were not there for me, the plot itself was barely there for me too. If this had been a longer book I wouldn't have read it. I wish it had been more believable, but it wasn't.

I have read her other book, Because of you and I really enjoyed the way the characters were built, but this one... It just wasn't there for me.

All in all it receives an "okay" rating from me, because the ideas are there, but the execution was not.

(I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a review).

(This review may contain spoilers).

I was surprised at how quickly I was able to read this book. I liked Rose as a character and I felt that her reluctance to touch people came across really well and I found it really easy to empathise with her as a character.

It was interesting to see the relationships that Rose had with the other detectives on the police force. I did feel that telling her to go undercover just like that wasn’t a good idea, though. It wasn’t very clear how big the town was, but I felt that having no undercover training would probably be more detrimental to Rose acting undercover.

I thought the mystery aspects of this book came across really well. I felt a lot of sympathy for Rose with her desire to find out what had really happened to her parents and why they’d been killed.

I liked meeting the other characters in this book, although there were a couple of them who I didn’t really like… especially one in particular on Rose’s team. I did like Tammi as a character, though… and it was good to see Rose have the opportunity to make a friend outside of the police force.

I wasn’t really sold on the romance aspects of this book. By the time it reached the end, I felt that the interactions between Rose and Mackey came across as a bit forced. Since it’s part of a series, I thought that it would have been better for the last scene between them to happen in the second book. The two characters didn’t interact enough for me to ship them together romantically.

I would have liked to know a bit more about Rose’s past. I’m not completely clear about how she joined the force so long. It’s implied that she went through school fast, but the main instance of her intelligence (the serial killer aspect) is… well, obvious. And it seemed like the other characters were dumbed down during that scene.

There were some good action and tense moments in this book and I found it really easy to read. I wasn’t impressed with the cliffhanger ending, though… even if I do want to read the next book in the series and find out what’s going to happen to Rose.

I received a free copy for an honest review.

The cover artist did a bang up job on the book cover. It attracted me with its harmonious colour combinations. And it also denotes the personality of the heroine, Rose in my view. She is as colourful as the image with the different sides to her character.

Rose is a well developed character with her tough as nails detective image on one side and her vulnerability on another side. She stands out among the cast of people in the book while Vincent seems like a part developed one. I felt that the author was too hasty in writing him. The side characters add diversity to the story ranging from my favourite, Jack with his good friend vibe to the ones who made me grit my teeth with their dialogues.

The blurb is too straight forward and doesn't hint at the complexity of the story. Though the book is a fast read due to its easy language, the story itself has all elements of a good paranormal mystery with Rose's ability to know a person's intentions on touching them and the slew of deaths occurring in their town. I didn't include romance in it because though it is one, it didn't feel that way to me. The romantic aspect felt too hurried and I am not at all for the relationship between Rose and Vincent.

The story behind the deaths and the romance parts have only been given a start in this book and hopefully it will be more expanded on in the coming book. Another thing I am looking forward to is to know more about Rose and her background. The mysterious deaths and also Rose's parents' deaths in her past all form the a big jigsaw puzzle which will be resolved in the series. And I hope the author would unveil more about the partially revealed world created in this short and sweet book.

The author has managed to hook me with her story of various sub plots and I am looking forward to the next book eagerly. In short, I would recommend this wonderful start to a new paranormal series to readers who like a pinch of everything in their reads.

My one line review : A must read for paranormal mystery+romance lovers!

My rating : 5/5

My reread factor : 4/5

I was lucky enough to read an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, thanks to RaShelle Workman.

This fast paced story centres around Rose, a young cop who is also an empath, able to see other peoples intentions via touch. Haunted by the death of her parents & still trying to solve the case of who killed them, a mysterious stranger pays her a visit. Rose is also trying to catch a serial killer and contend with going undercover in a job that is very different from her normal day job!!

I love RaShelle's writing style and the way her well thought out stories and characters come to life throughout the volumes of the story, and leave you wanting more. I would say this was a more adult style and storyline than other series by RaShelle which I really liked. I just can't wait for the next volume to find out what happens!!

I received a read to review copy of this book from the publisher.

I enjoyed Undercover Empath: Kindred Demon. It's a great start to what I am hoping will be a great series. There were a few copyedit issues that threw me off during reading (Hansen vs Hanson, Cinnamon calls her Rose instead of her undercover name or stage name that she was just given, she claims Sugar was a spur of the moment thing but the guy with the clipboard called her that, etc.), but the story was great and made you want to read more. It will be interesting to see what else she comes across and who will have her back. I will love this series if it turns into an episodic tale with a different case for each book, much like JD Robb (aka Nora Roberts)'s In Death series.

Please do that! :D

I really loved this book. After reading the authors blood and snow series I didn't think it could get any better. The author has created a new world for us in this first book of a new series. I loved the interaction between the main characters. I thought Rose was an awesome character, the kind you love and want to get to know more about. I loved the world building in this first book and all the mystery. I really didn't want to story to end, I cant wait to read the next in this series and see where this goes.

Kindred Demon is the start of RaShelle Workman’s Undercover Empath series. Our protagonist is plucky nineteen-year-old Rose Hansen, who has a mysterious gift that allows her to see a person’s intentions when she touches their hands. She seems surprisingly well-adjusted for a person who has visions and can’t touch anyone. Oh and her parents were murdered – but she’s fine, because she graduated from Harvard at age 18 and now (one year later) she is a detective in small-town California. This is all totally normal. What’s NOT normal is the half-naked man who shows up on her doorstep one night to deliver a package with ambiguous clues to her parents’ murder, and then vanishes. But before Rose can follow this new lead, she is informed by the FBI that she will be going undercover to bait a serial killer who goes after – get this – young, blonde strippers. And so, innocent, young, special Rose gets to learn how to be sexy, gets to make new friends, and gets to learn way more than she wants to about her special powers.

Workman’s writing is passable, but she seems to have a tenuous grasp on logic and I noticed several major plot-holes throughout – have you really thought about how long five thousand years is? And who inhabited America five thousand years ago? But her disregard for logical coherence is what allows for some interesting turns of plot, so I can get around that. No, what I really had trouble with was the fact that all the characters besides the protagonist were exceedingly one-dimensional and shallow. All the women Rose meets are either bubbly or bitchy. All the men she meets are either crass or brooding and protective. And that is their only role. They only barely serve as plot devices, and some don’t move the plot along at all. Our main character, though, does have at least a small sense of agency. She does actively pursue the case of her parents’ murder and is first on the scene of the book’s climax. She is not a wholly weak character, and that is reassuring.

I will say, Workman has a very STRONG sense of what to leave to the reader’s imagination. Her descriptions of place and appearance are very astute, so the audience can ably put themselves in the scene, without imposing too much of the character’s personality on themselves. I found it very interesting and I think that any reader will be able to find something to relate to in Rose and the people she meets. While I caught myself rolling my eyes at the occasionally unimaginative dialogue, Rose as an enigma of Rose’s gift kept me interested and the end of the book leaves us with an unbearable cliffhanger.

Undercover Empath is a book suited for those who want a light, thrilling read featuring modern mystery, ancient mythology, and steamy exploits from a female lead. If you’ve read any of Workman’s previous series’, this one is sure to satisfy as well.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review and I have to say that I'm intrigued ;) initially I requested it, because it sounded pretty cool... ;) I mean, paranormal vibes, a heroine with special abilities plus bunch of sexy guys... sounds good to me ;) and I'm really glad I did it, cause I thoroughly enjoyed this story... :) it was my first book written by this author, but it definitely made me curious about her other work :) but for now, let me tell you why I liked this particular story ;) although if I'm being honest, I can't really tell you too much because of all the spoilers... ;) so I hope you'll forgive my a little bit shorter than usual review :) make no mistakes, I really liked the book :)

So we have Rose, our main character, who is a detective in a small and very peculiar little town close to Los Angeles... and when I say peculiar I mean... there is definitely something more going on in there... or at least with some of the citizens... ;) from the very first chapter we are basically thrown into the story and a lot of things happen in a very short amount of time... :) I mean, not only do we have a serial killer on the loose, but there are also other cases... plus introducing a whole lot of characters... I needed time to wrap my head around all those details... ;) but once you sort of decide to "go with the flow" it's easier :) besides Rose, and her cat, Fluffy Fantastico... ;) I kid you not ;) we have three, kind of important guys :) there's Jack, her partner on the force and ex-boyfriend... Vincent, a special agent who comes to work on the serial killer case... and Aaron, a shirtless and mysterious guy who appears and vanishes as he pleases... ;) don't worry, I'm not gonna say anything else about them, so no spoilers from me :) and that's pretty much everything I can tell you about this story... ;) because it's sort of short, and like I mentioned before, there is a lot going on from the very beginning, so all other informations would ruin the fun of you discovering stuff on your own ;) so instead of concentrating on the things I can't tell you about, let me share with you my thoughts and overall opinions about this story :)

I really enjoyed this book :) the writing was really good, so chapters just flew by ;) although to be honest I would love it more if we would get at least some answers... ;) don't get me wrong, the case of that serial killer is solved and everything, but all those glimpses and teasers about certain people and events only made me curious... and then BAM! the book ended and I still don't know basically anything ;) but since I'm assuming it's only the first chapter of a bigger story, I hope we do get to know more in future installments :) I liked Rose as the main character, but to be honest I am more intrigued by some other people mentioned in this story... :) I don't want to tell you the names, because it's not so obvious from the start, and I want you to be able to draw your own conclusions... ;) so if you are looking for a story full of action, interesting characters and paranormal vibes, definitely give this one a try ;)

XOXO

Let's say 2.5/5 because it really started to pick up at the end. Unfortunately, I have more complaints about this book than I do compliments.

Mostly my problems stem from small little holes here and there. Plot holes? Nah but definitely things I would consider not thought of--

⭐According to the summary Rose is 19 but in the book it says she is 20... unless I completely read that wrong. Dates and ages aren't said in the beginning in the descriptive parts but way later in the book. I actually couldn't pin down exactly when Rose's parents died.

⭐Second, if a person knows they can't touch another person but, only hand to hand contact without getting their intensions... why not wear gloves all the time? Then you wouldn't seem as weird to your co-workers and friends. The one time this is brought up is at a crime scene where she is wearing latex gloves to touch a corpse and someone comments... she then suspects the gloves. After two decades of life? Finally? But this isn't seen as something maybe you should look into???

⭐I thought it was weird how there was no tension between Jack and Rose... they supposedly dated yet , their relationship seems so weird to me. She misses him, she loves what they have then he feels like another father. He loves the women he is with, sees Rose and regrets letting her go.
??? I would like some more consistency.

⭐Rose's workplace was so bad I don't know how she was able to work in those conditions. And the fact Vincent could just say You are going undercover to be a stripper, and she couldn't say no??? She is a detective not someone we know can go under. Maybe all my watching of Law & Order is tainting my police room relationships but, this just did not seem right.

⭐Another small quirk was the town being described twice... the beginning description could have been cut because soon after Rose looks over the town and describes it again.

I found the story hard to read, to be honest. The writing style was not my favorite. Plus, seeing 'skillz' and other words written in that style made me cringe. There is a time and a place for that style, and even then I find it better used when a person is actually talking.

That doesn't mean I didn't like anything in this book. The mystery was interesting and the magic scene looks promising -- hopefully the next books tell us more.
The added Japanese was great ^_^ I suppose if you don't know Japanese then you don't know Jack is sleeping with a vampire. I felt very in the know.

So, perhaps there is hope for the book but, at this point I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

I’m not sure what’s going on with the publisher these days but they keep sending me one out of many for a serial series with no mention about how this is actually part one out of like 4 or 5 parts or something. And Goodreads also doesn’t have any mention about how there are multiple parts so once again, I didn’t find out until the very end. I did find out that this part that I read is part 1 but it does not feel like part one at all. It doesn’t have the typical storybuilding or character building that is typical for the beginning of a book.

For example, why is Rose so young at only 19 years old yet she works at the police station? I also get the impression that she works there full time. Does this mean she graduated already or what? What’s the story behind her and her empathy powers? What happened between her and her partner? There seems to be some sort of history there but the beginning is unknown and there’s no real mention about it other than the fact that they dated at one point. What’s with the whole kindred demon aspect? There are just so many unanswered questions that I really don’t think this should have been part one of a serial.

I really dislike this whole serial thing – I wish the publisher mentioned something or at least gave me the other parts rather than just leave the readers hanging after a certain part. It’s a little ridiculous to be honest. It’s one thing for there to be a series and it’s mentioned somewhere that this is book one. And even then, book one would have a complete story with somewhat decent world and character building that would end with some sort of cliffhanger. Whereas for serials, part one has NO world building nor character building – the reader is essentially thrusted into a world that they know nothing about and no explanations are given and you’re expected to somehow follow along and understand it.

Overall, while it could’ve been an interesting book but I felt way out of loop right from the beginning with too many unanswered questions about the origins of things that I doubt I will continue the rest of this serial.

Flaunting a mixture of paranormal, mystery and good old fashioned cop intuition, this is a book which captures the attention in so many ways.

Rose is a cop. A good one. She's got a troubled past but deals with it fairly well. Her biggest secret lies in her ability to read a person's true intentions with the single brush of a finger. Since such special 'abilities' don't really mix with real life detectives, she keeps this a secret and simply avoids touching anyone. Of course, there's a reason for her abilities, and there are forces out there who know exactly who she is. And in this book, they finally catch up to her.

The first pages laid out a very homegrown description of the small town Rose lives and works in. It's a quaint beginning, which luckily gains depth and tension quickly after the introduction. Rose is an interesting character with as many faults and quirks as blessings. Her lack of interest of others' opinion of her was really refreshing and played in wonderful opposition to her interest in Miss America contests. But it's exactly these odd contradictions which let the characters really come to life and make them that much more realistic and enjoyable.

All characters have distinct personalities, and they aren't afraid to show it, which makes every dialogue a real treat. The relations are not perfect and often ragged, but somehow the bunch still comes together nicely.

There are some harsh scenes (this does deal with a serial killer who's attacking pole dancers), plenty of demons and other creatures, and there are several hot heroes thrown in on top of it all. In other words, everything the mystery/paranormal fan could desire. And as to pacing...well, there's not a dull moment. I read this in one sitting and was thrilled that I didn't have to worry about anyone disturbing me because this was not one I wanted to put down. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing where the series goes next.

RaShelle Workman introduce a new twist to the Urban Fantasy genre!

Kindred Demon gave me the same feeling of Lilith Saintcrow’s Dante Valentine series! The vibe of a badass female with a certain mission!

Seeing such a young protagonist gave me quite a shock. Usually it would be about 20 plus? A shock is a shock, but it’s also rather refreshing!

There are several things that confused me when I read this. Hmm…I think the correct term would be a…Love Rectangle? This…

THIS IS WHAT MAKES KINDRED DEMON SUCH AN INTERESTING READ!

There are at least 3 people that I can think of that could or might have already be involved with Rose Hansen! That’s a lot and I think all three of them have different intentions with Rose!

The plot is extremely intriguing! I am literally so curious about everything that is going on and honestly, I’m hoping there will be a sequel to this! I have so many theories swirling in my mind right now and the only one who can answer them is the author!

I’m curious whether Rose will pull of the undercover work, what the Kindred Demon is doing, how the FBI agent and her partner feels and…the list is endless!

Definitely highly recommended for urban fantasy readers!

I found this book to be a really fun and engrossing read. The characters in the book were also very interesting and I hope to see them in future installments because I would like to know more about everyone. It was well-written and had an interesting plot. The only thing I had trouble with was Rose’s age. At one point, the book said she was 28 and in the description it said she was 19. I know she was a genius and graduated early, but I would have found early- to mid-twenties a better age for her. Besides, she was drinking alcohol at one point so she’d have to be at least 21. As a cop, she couldn’t be seen drinking alcohol if she were under 21. One other thing that sort of bothered me was the quickness of the book. I think that it was supposed to be a quick, short read, so I always forgive this, but I wish it had been longer to get a little more invested in the characters. I think there will be more installments, and I can get my fix then. And, believe me, I will be getting more of these books. This book is well-worth your time, and it a great book! Highly recommend!

I received a free copy from Curiosity Quills in exchange for an honest review.

I really didn't think this novel was going to amount to much at the start and it took me quite awhile to get halfway through. However, at that point the action picked up and I finished the other half in just a few hours.

We start off with the cliche heroine who has paranormal powers and tries to never use them. Out of nowhere a half naked man shows up and gives her a stake and clues about her parent’s deaths.

So Rose is a cop and the first glimpse at her job is a murder scene which propels her into an undercover stint as a stripper. It seems she's in a bit of a love triangle, which promises to be uncovered in subsequent volumes.

Naturally one love interest may just be a bad guy but we're left not knowing at the end what's going to happen. Rose nabs the bad guys and finds some more powers she didn't know she had.

This is my first read of Workman’s works and once things got rolling I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed seeing the main character develop. It might have been too easy for me to figure out who the serial killer was. I hope she'll be more secretive in upcoming books.

4 stars.

RaShelle Workman is one author whose books I automatically pre-order, regardless of their genre. To be honest, if she wrote an instruction booklet for watching paint dry, I’d one-click it!
Undercover Empath is immediately striking because of its take-your-breath-away cover, but the story inside is not so pretty! This is a new adult novel in which we encounter murder, sacrifice, torture and demon possession.
Rose is brave and intelligent; a Blush Valley detective at the age of 19. She is also an empath who is able to read an individual’s intentions with a touch. This is a gift she hates using in her job, despite its obvious benefits to investigations.
As the first of the Kindred Demon series, RaShelle Workman introduces various elements to the plot, including a serial killer; Rose’s investigation to the deaths of her mother and step-father; the mysterious appearance of a half-naked stranger called Aaron and Rose’s undercover job as a pole-dancing stripper. All of these threads are equally compelling and with the shocking cliff-hanger we are left with, the sequel to Undercover Empath is already on my must-read-very-soon list!

Great Story, Great Characters **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review**Lola was a stripper. Her real name was Leslie. He drugged her and took her from the strip club. The demon knew she'd only been in the area a short time. Demons had all the wrong wicked desires humans did, but without a body they couldn't act on them. Rose Hansen was a detective at the age of 19. Jack was her ex-boyfriend and partner. She lost her mom during her formative years. A man knocked on her door, no shoes or shirt, had a manilla envelope for her, and told her he knew she needed to know who murdered her parents. Rose was very very naive in a lot of ways, but a very dedicated person. She could be determined. She didn't really have anybody there for her. She grew through the twists and turns of this story. I loved the characters, story and plot, but the story finished way too soon. I truly hope this story is continued in another book. I would definitely read it. I highly recommend to anyone that likes this genre.

Undercover Empath: Kindred Demon started out with the murders of strippers. Rose Hansen, a detective of the Blush Valley Police, is only 19 years old is assigned to the case with her partner Jack. Above all, both have to work with a FBI agent who Rose has a hot for.

The matter just started to get worse when the hot FBI agent asked Rose to go undercover as a stripper to case a serial killer, who just happened to be possessed by a kindred demon.

I have to say this story just got very interesting but readers will have to read the next book as there is a cliffhanger to find out what will happen next with the demon, the mysterious man that keep showing at Rose's house, and the chemistry between Rose and the FBI agent. I can't wait to read the next novella of this series.

I was given this ebook from the publisher via NetGally in exchange of an honest review. I was not compensated or influenced in any way for my opinion of the book.

Detective Rose Hansen has always known she was different. She graduated high school at 14 and Harvard by 18. She made police detective in under six months, the youngest ever to do that at 19. As a general rule, she doesn't like anyone to touch her. Most find it odd about her and don't know what the deal is with it, but every time someone touches her, their intentions filter through her mind. It is almost too much for her to handle.

The world gets a little stranger and bigger when she realizes that paranormal entities are more than just fiction. What she doesn't realize is that the serial killer she is after is demon possessed. Will she be able to rescue stop him from killing again or will she lose herself in the process?

I really enjoyed the first installment of this story. It had great character development and plot development. I will be looking for further installments and other stories by Rashelle Workman. She has made it to my watch list.

Rose is 19 years old and is an empathy (can read a person’s intentions by the touch of their hands). Rose is also a very young cop who is very good at what she does. While investing the murder of her parents, Rose is asked to go under cover for another case and work as a stripper (Rose is not your typical girly girl—she doesn’t even own a dress lol). There is also possible demon’s involved in this case and it up to Rose, her partner Jack and FBI Agent Vincent

I have been a huge fan of RaShelle’s since I read her Blood and Snow series and I will say that this book was great! I would’ve loved to have read more but RaShelle has broken this story up into installments. RaShelle’s writing draws the readers in, making them want more. You will not be disappointed if you decide to read this! I know I am looking forward to the next book of the series.

OOOO I love the paranormal genre! I liked the characters in this story especially Rose! She is strong, smart, over achiever, and tough on herself. The guys are plenty and there is a one for every type. This many male prospects will lead to some interesting love options and triangles later on in the series. I liked the plot it was interesting and kept me reading. The pace was good not to slow or fast. The plot was filled with magical elements and a murder mystery that will keep you absorbed. Undercover Empath is an exciting beginning to what is set up to be the next big paranormal series! The only reason why I did not give this book 4 jelly beans/Stars is because I want more!
This is for all my paranormal mystery junkies, get this story now!

I received a copy of this story from Net Galley. Yay books!

Spoilers possible ahead...

I'm confused by this story. I'm not sure if a 19 year old detective is believable. If I could have stopped thinking about her being only 19, I think it would have been better.

But then the rest of the story was just weird. Like her parents. The angel. The FBI agent. (Whom I'm not sure I entirely trust. Something is up there).

I'm not sure how I really feel about his story.

And the way it ended. Really? I don't even know what to say about it. Like, really? This is just how confused I am about it...

So when is the second one coming out? Because I really want her to find something wrong with Vincent. Is that wrong of me? She also needs to get back together with Jack, because I think there is still something there...
