"A look at sloths, including their habitats, physical characteristics such as their long claws, behaviors, relationships with humans, and their growing popularity in the world today"--
Melissa Gish is Associate Professor of English at Glenville State College, in West Virginia. She is the author of more than 100 juvenile educational books on such topics as biography, folklore, science, natural history, and wildlife.
So, we were testing the interlibrary loan system at work, and our person who handles those things used this book as a test request, putting in the special notes field that this was a test, we didn't actually want this book, and the request could be ignored.
However, somehow the note got overlooked, and so this book was actually sent to us -- from five states away! After it showed up, I figured I should read it, that it might not have traveled to us in vain.
Anyway, the photography is genuinely lovely, and was my favorite part. There are some editing oddities, and the fact that no source notes are provided for the Tacana legend that closes the book makes me uncomfortable. It's a fine book, but not an exceptional one.
My only complaint about this book, is that it’s not 10 times longer. Sloths are the cutest animals in the world! Can I prove it, no. You’re just have to going to trust me. This book covers pretty much every topic in the life and location of these cute little buggers. It covers it, it covers how much they sleep, it covers Taxonomically where they came from. If you or your kid like sloths, and I hope you do this book is for you!
Adorable pics and nice info, but everything felt very familiar. I'm pretty sure I've read most of this info in other books and I know I've seen these pics elsewhere. I wish the book gave credit where it is due. This author has many other nonfiction animal books in a similar format that have great pics as well, but the info is the same...uncredited.
Super cute photos of adorable animals and very informative (but I would not classify it as a kids picture book as it was word heavy - but that worked well for me as it was chock full of information). Learned a few fact that amazingly I did not yet know from my sloth obsessed kid.
