God’s Word Leads Us to God’s Heart Hebrew Word Revealing the Heart of God is a devotional book unlike any you’ve ever read. Most Hebrew word study books read like a dictionary, not really explaining the Hebrew words in light of specific Bible passages. Hebrew Word Study by Chaim Bentorah combines an in-depth look at the meanings of a variety of scriptural words and phrases in the original Hebrew with a down-to-earth application for our daily Christian experience. Guided by Chaim’s expertise in biblical languages, you will examine not just word definitions, but also the origins of words, their place in the culture and idioms of the day, and even their emotional context. With the author’s anecdotes and stories from the Bible and ancient Jewish literature, the meanings of these words and passages become even more vivid. Each of the ninety word studies in this book will encourage and strengthen you in your relationship with God. As you search the depths of God’s Word, you will see just how beautiful the Scriptures are, and most of all, you will see the beauty of God Himself and come to love Him all the more.
Book was given as a gift and I really did not think I would enjoy it. But I used it as a devotional and I greatly enjoyed it. In particular many of the devotions were related to the heart which really is the heart of the matter.
Very good book. I may consider more by the author.
Chaim is a great teacher. This work is instructive but in a language that is relatable and can be easily grasped. It’s a great inspirational devotion, teaching tool, and reference book.
"Hebrew Word Study, Revealing the Heart of God" by author Chaim Bentorah is a 432 page hard back book. It is published by Whitaker House and listed under the category Religion/Biblical Studies/Old Testament. However, this is an enlightening devotional book. The front cover drew me in. It had Hebrew writing on it. The back cover states "God's Word Leads Us to God's Heart."
Author Bentorah has written 90 chapters or word studies. Each chapter begins with a scripture and then presents a lesson. This isn't just a word and definition but words, phrases, their origins, and how they apply to life. The lessons are deeply moving and made me want to expand my study time. This book will definitely assist readers in their quest to get closer to God and learn more about Him. This is obviously a biblically based book. Scripture is in the forefront. Biblical stories and examples are used to stress points. "Hebrew Word Study" glorifies God and was a pleasure and privilege to read.
It is the only thing I have read by this author, and I was so impressed. The writing style was clear and easy to understand. The author researched extensively and has provided information that links the original Hebrew to English, our scripture, and its meaning. In the back a glossary is provided and an English-Hebrew Index. The book ends with information about the author. He teaches Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek to teachers and pastors.
I loved this book! It is a moving devotional and great study tool for delving into the language of the Bible. The information stirred my heart and made me thirsty to learn more. The chapters were so good it was hard to read just one a day. It definitely helped me understand the Father better.
This is definitely a 5 star book that I would highly recommend. It would make a great Christmas or birthday present for anyone. I wish there were study questions at the end of the chapters or book. This would make an inspiring group study. Don't miss this great tool for strengthening your spiritual life. I received a copy of it from The Book Club Network in exchange for my honest opinion.
“Hebrew is a language of poetry and pictures. With Chaim Bentorah's expertise, you will see how to examine not just word definitions, but also the origin of the words, their place in the culture and idioms of the day, and even their emotional context. Through this devotional, you will walk the road less traveled as you uncover the deeper spiritual messages in God's Word. In the process, you will discover the heart of God toward you and come to know Him better. You will see just how beautiful the Word of God is and, most of all, you will see the beauty of God Himself and love Him all the more.”
I loved this book! As the author says, “I would love to walk in the garden and converse with God as Adam did; Alas, the reality is that our most authoritative source for understanding Him is what is written in Scripture that came from the heart of God into a human language that we can’t understand, and were then translated into yet another language that we can understand.” Therein lies the heart of it… and this book cuts through all of that, brings us beyond the dozens of translations of the Word to discover the heart of God.
While you could certainly read and study each of the 90 chapters as a daily devotion, I chose to study 5 chapters with titles that matched how the circumstances of my situation at that time. These ease in which the author delivers a vast amount of information tying it all together with scripture and with word choices and then brings it all together at the end by asking the reader a pointed question for further reflection.
This is a great study book and would also make a great daily devotional or small group study. However you choose to use it, it is a must have for your collection.

I am excited that I was able to receive this book. It is just what I have been looking for. I often wonder what certain words mean in Hebrew . This book is a great devotional book that will take you through 90 different words or phrases of intense study . I loved all the different words and their meanings. They were easy to understand and made me want to dig further. I love eagles and I especially like Isaiah 40:31, " But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength ; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. " I loved how the author broke down the scripture and made it easier to understand the full meaning. When the scripture mentioned " mounting up as..." "We bind ourselves to God, we will not only "renew" our strength" but we will also "mount up with wings as eagles."
The chapter goes on to explain more about the eagle that was fascinating to me. I am honored to have this book and will use it frequently as I do bible studies to help me get a clearer picture of what scriptures or words are saying. I would highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to do an in depth study on the meaning of words. It is a wonderful addition to have as you spend time in the Word.

When I got this book, I wasn't quite sure exactly what to expect, but I was in for a pleasant surprise. I assumed it to be a type of concordance with the Hebrew word, what it meant, where to find it, and how it was used in the context. Instead, I received a devotional in which the Hebrew word is expounded upon and used to encourage heart. There are 90 devotionals that could easily be used daily. Each one is based on a Hebrew word - translated as we would use it in English with Scriptures accompanying it and defas it would have been used in Hebrew. it contains a Hebrew/English index and vise versa at the very end.
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight on how the Hebrew letters are written and what they symbolized, as well as, how those letters played into the "meaning" of the word. For me, this book is a keeper and going on my shelf for future reference and study. I believe you will also find it an asset to your library or your church's library.
I received this book from bookfun.org and Whitaker House in exchange for my honest opinion. I was not required to review this positively.
Hebrew Word Study - Revealing the Heart of God is a well-written devotional book. There are 90 word studies that will "encourage and strengthen you in your relationship with God. As you search the depths of God's Word, you will see just how beautiful the Scriptures are, and most of all, you will see the beauty of God Himself and come to love Him all the more." This book would make a fine gift for anyone desiring a better understanding of God's heart.
It has greatly helped me to gain a deeper, richer, more meaningful understanding of God's heart and just how much He loves me. Since it is very difficult to accurately translate a word from the Hebrew into English, the author's detailed explanation of several key words from the Hebrew language enables the reader to gain a better perspective on the intended meaning of the word, especially when it is given in the context of Scripture.
I highly recommend this book and give it 5 stars. I received a copy from Whitaker House and The Book Club Network, Inc. in exchange for my honest review.
This was a very interesting, informative book with great resources and reference's written by Chaim Bentorah. There are are 90 devotionals. A book that will give you a closer relationship with God and His word. I admit that I am still reading this study book in order to take it all in. But with what I have read so far I am able to make this review without waiting another month or so. I love that there is a Bible verse at the beginning of each study followed by the lesson. This is the first book I have read by this author. He has a great way of writing that makes it easy for you to understand the book. I am glad to have had the opportunity to read the Hebrew Word Study and highly recommend this book.

If I were to review this book after I've finished it, you wouldn't see the review for three months. But I don't need that long to have an opinion about the book. This book is a study of 90 Hebrew words. At the beginning of each word study, the author tells a story about the word. This brings the meaning to a level that I can understand. This is a study book, one to be read slowly and enjoyed. I plan to study and reflect on each word. It's amazing that we have the Bible we have from the Hebrew with so many ways to interpret one word. In my opinion, every Bible student should have a copy of this book. It's just amazing.
