Personal narratives of a divisional commander of the Indian Peace Keeping Force of Operation Pawan (OP) against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in Sri Lanka, 1987-1989, with considerable endeavour on military, diplomatic, and political front.
Book: assignment Jaffna Author: Lt Gen S C Sardeshpande This book covers the basic mission and mission of the Indian Army in the peace-making effort made in Sri Lanka around 1987. The army appointed Lt. Sardeshpande as the head of the operation. It is a great achievement that the Indian Army has been consistently stationed in an area dominated by the LTTE. They fought for the welfare of the people there despite the threat of attacks from the LTTE day in day out.
I struggled to get through this book, mostly because of the writing style and my own unfamiliarity with Sri Lanka, but it was interesting to learn about the Tamil Tigers and this conflict of which I knew nothing about beforehand.
