In a quiet Texas town tucked away from the hustle and bustle, everyone seems to have forgotten about the three mysterious deaths that took place fifteen years ago, the victims seemingly unrelated, the killer having eluded capture each time, and the deaths all with the same signature trademark; a throat ripped open, sawed apart, skin splitting, and muscles exposed.

Nobody speaks of the horrific deaths anymore. Time having passed and other current events sweeping the murders under the rug, Detective William Lumis and his friend, a war veteran named Vance, are both alarmed when Vance's adopted daughter, Alyssa, stumbles upon the body of a police officer in the driver's seat of a moving truck, his neck ripped open. Vance and Lumis haven't forgotten about the cut-throat killer that never faced justice, and now, with Alyssa and her new gang of friends sneaking around town and playing detective, the cut-throat killer claims more victims, and all at once, the sleepy lives of the inhabitants of Gates Mill become vibrant with excitement.

Suddenly, Alyssa's introversion goes out the window. Now, the only thing occupying her mind--apart from protecting her loved ones--is the thought of finding the man in the black overcoat, the man with the blood ridden hands, the man with all of the answers to her unasked questions.

I love the main character in this eerie tale, and how she relates to her adoptive dad, her new friends, and her new faith family. Still, it's creepy and gruesome with quite a mystery, perfect for the season! Strong language, probably a PG13 level book. Lots of suspense, and I really found myself changing my mind on who might be the killer. The final reveal is quite a killer. Seriously, I wished I could stay indoors and read this book from start to end, it was that riveting! Some violence, as could be expected in this genre.
