Journey with the author in her evocative exploration of life, love, lust and everything in between. Only Dark Around the Edges, Fiona Summerville’s debut collection of poetry, prose, quotes and short stories, leaves no aspect of life untouched. Divided into familiar slices of life, the reader will find hope, inspiration, commiserate understanding of heartbreak and frustration and just enough naughtiness to offer ideas for a sexy night in.
I was so moved by this collection of poetry that I've read through the book several times since getting the book, going back and highlighting my favorite lines. Fiona Summerville has such a firm grasp of language, her words can give chills, bring tears, and sometimes even turn you on. Her work is eloquent, sexy, dark, but oh so deep. I can't wait until she publishes more! She has definitely taken my breath away with her poetry. I highly recommend Only Dark Around the Edges to anyone who enjoys beautiful writing. You will feel her love and pain. Well done, Ms. Summerville. You have a forever fan in me.
This book is a private journey into the soul of a gifted being. Lust, love, heartbreak, and life bled onto the pages with raging highs and lows of despair. My favorite poems include the strength of "Grace," the profoundness of "Just Love," the relatable "Safe Harbor," the love story of "The Poem and Her Poet," the wickedness of "Two Heads,” and the melancholy of "Oxygen." You will fall in love with the raw freshness of this book of art. It reads five stars.
A superb collection of poetry and delicious snippets of prose. Fiona can write with such blunt simplicity and flourishing beauty, yet never fails to pierce the core of an idea. The collection covers life, love, lust and heartbreak, and each piece has a a wonderful honesty to it that is often so rare. Her words can dance and drip, caress and wound. She's become an instant favourite voice in the realms of poetry. Bravo.
I cannot say how much I loved this collection. I have dog-eared so many favorites, I am just going to mark the whole as my favorite. Each one gives you a glimpse into a pure heart but also into your own. <3
I have been a fan of Fiona Summerville since I happened to stumble onto her FB page a couple of years ago, and since that time I have purchased, and read over and over, her first two books, 'Only Dark Around the Edges' and 'Typos and All', both of which have a permanent spot on my favourite bookshelf, but when I heard rumblings that this stunning poet was releasing a book of sensual poetry and nonfiction, I was over the moon. I devoured this book in a matter of days and I would be lying if I said that the word art between these pages didn't leave me feeling a little heated and more than a little flushed. While the poetry in this collection dances its way seductively between romantic and downright erotic, there is no denying the fact that Fiona Summerville has brought her A game again. I don't know of another writer who can write passion and pleasure and everything in between with the poetic force that Summerville does. This is a book you'll definitely want to keep close to your bedside and I highly recommend it to poetry lovers everywhere.
"Neither light nor dark neither happy nor sad simply there quiet and serene she finds her only peace in the all too fleeting moments of the precious in-between"
Fiona Summerville writes with such a gorgeous passion that you are pulled deep into the pages of this book while reading it, and left deeper in your own mind long after you've put it down. I highly recommend Typos and All to every poetry lover out there, and to anyone who loves beautiful words.
This collection of poetry has it all! Humility, honesty, raw emotion and deep abiding love created by an author whose talent shines pure with passion that burns bright. If you're looking for the kind of poetry that makes you feel and breathe every word...this is the book for you.
Only Dark Around the Edges, is an amazing collection of poetry and pose that had me falling in love with poetry all over again! I loved the book and I highly recommend this book and this author!
